This car is too much fun. Everywhere you go you'll be getting the "thumbs up" and drawing a crowd. This is a rock-solid cruiser built to drive and enjoy. All modern drive train. You can get replacement parts at any auto parts store .

A really great driving 1954 Mercury Monterey 2 door hardtop. Not a restored car , rather an updated and tastefully modified car. I found this car in a backyard where it had been sitting since 1992. The mileage is original. Came from the factory with super rare vinly top ( long gone) and factory power steering. Had earlier floorpan repairs.and rust repairs to the lower doors otherwise a pretty solid car. Every inch of wiring is BRAND NEW. I replaced the 260 Y block and trans with a fresh 1996 5.0 with the 3 bar "P" heads with only 700 miles on it since it was freshened up. Installed  new stardard  connecting rod bearings, new oil pump, new heavy duty intermediate shaft, pertronix billet distributor, new timing gears and chain, new mechanical fuel pump (with correct timing cover) new water pump, new rear main bearing seal and new chrome oil pan. Has 120 pound of compression, idles at 30 pounds oil pressure runs at 50-60 pounds oil pressure. Brand new dual exhaust system exiting through new Bellflower exhaust tips. Five brand new 205R 15 white wall tires with 1957 Lancer style "crab" wheel covers with locks , Custom built drive shaft with all new u-joints.  Brand new drop-in fuel tank with brand new fuel lines and sending unit. Converted to dual master brake cylinder with new rear brake lines. Brand new Edelbrock aluminum intake manifold with edelbrock 1406 (600 CFM ) carb with Lokar accelator cables and accelerator pedal.  Cadillac "batwing" aircleaner. Brand new 80 amp chrome alternator. Heavy duty mustang crossflow radiator, the car has never gone above 160 degrees. Brand new heater core, hoses, lines and vacuum valve. NOS blower switch, working amber fog lights ( original to the car ). B&M floor shifter with all new Lokar cables and downshift cables. A one-of custom built billet aluminum dash with brand new Autometer gauges ( tach/speedo/oil/temp/volts/fuel ) Brand new heavy duty 12 v battery. I replaced the '54 bumper with a much better looking 1953 Mercury front bumper.  Im getting 18-20 MPG with the way the car is set up with a 4:11 rear. It really really goes and still gets great gas mileage. Ive included a spare 1954 Mercury third member with 3:50 ratio, you can switch to the 3:50 and get 23-25 MPG or more. The only thing that doesn't work is the radio, it's a dummy ( faceplate only).

Dash and all  interior trim was redone in two-tone ivory with grey accents. Brand new 3 point seat belts.  Interior has an underflooring of Dynamat sound and heat insulation ( as does the roof ) ,  a new ACC carpet. Upholstery is brand new all cloth grey. All new matching cloth door panels and ivory color cloth headliner.Brand new air conditioning, just charge with R134 and be ready for summer. I replaced the "bus driver" 18" steering wheel with a billet 16" as the car has power steering. Great shifting AOD transmission ( 4th gear is a .6 overdrive for highway cruising). All switches are NOS or brand new.  there no dents in the roof.

Rebuilt and perfectly operating turn signals. Newport  electric windshield wipers. Fake appelton spotlights, peep mirrors, NOS trunk mounted antennae.NOS trunk emblem.
In primer black, paint it the color you want or leave "as-is" for the street rod look. Brand new roof rail weatherstripping. Comes with brand new door and trunk weatherstripping. All the glass is OK, no cracks, windows go up  and down fine, doors open and close fine. There are minor pin holes on the front driprail were the original vinyl roof was (typical of vinyl roofed cars ). The windshield and rear window gaskets have the usual cracks and should be replaced.  Starts, runs and drives excellant. The only reason Im thinking about selling this car is because a longtime friend is willing to sell me his 1966 Mustang fastback. questions? You could literally fly in and drive home. call or text dean 505-414-0617

Feds open investigation into Chevy Express, Ford Freestar rust issues

Wed, 28 Dec 2011

'Tis the season... for road salt. And with that, comes rust. And what does rust bring? Well, for Ford and General Motors, a National Highway Traffic Safety Administration investigation. According to The Detroit News, NHTSA is looking into potential recalls issues with Chevrolet Express vans and Ford Freestar minivans.
The feds have received five complaints that rust has caused leaking fuel filler pipes on 2003 Express vans. Separately, seven complaints have been filed over excessive rust in the rear wheel wells of 2004 Ford Freestar and Mercury Monterey minivans. The Freestar and Monterey went out of production in 2007. Neither issue has resulted in any crashes or injuries, according to the report.

Does Lincoln Zephyr trademark mean a return to real names?

Wed, May 25 2016

Lincoln's long history includes many legendary names, and despite its short life, Zephyr retains a spot in that pantheon. Perhaps its will return once again: Ford Motor Co. applied to trademark Zephyr on May 11. Trademark filings can have ambiguous meanings, and often they're legal plays to get or keep the rights to a name. But in the last year, we've seen signs Lincoln is looking to use real names on its vehicles again. Obviously, it's keeping Navigator for its flagship sport-utility vehicle with a new model due next year. Reprising Continental for the MKS replacement was also well received. That said, Lincoln still uses the MKX and MKC "names" for its crossovers. Zephyr is a dustier moniker. It was used in the 1930s and '40s on a mid-level model spearheaded by Edsel Ford. The stylishly aerodynamic model was set between the Ford V8 De Luxe and more expensive Lincolns. It returned in 2006 as the Lincoln version of the Ford Fusion before that model was renamed MKZ. Mercury also used Zephyr on its version of the Ford Fairmont in the late 1970s and early '80s. Ford last held a trademark on the Zephyr name in 2013. The filing says Ford seeks to use Zephyr for "motor vehicles and parts and accessories therefor." That could mean a new car — or just parts. Putting the Zephyr badge back on the MKZ is the most likely bet. Meanwhile, Ford also moved to get the Thunderbird trademark on May 11 for the same vehicles and parts purpose, and it filed for the Mustang trademark for shampoo and lotions on May 4. A Lincoln spokesman said, "In the normal course of our business, we file trademarks for names," but had no further information. Related Video:

Junkyard Gem: 1971 Mercury Comet 2-Door Sedan

Sat, Sep 10 2022

When Ford introduced the original Maverick for the 1970 model year, Dearborn tradition required that a Mercury-badged version be created. That car ended up being the Comet, built from the 1971 through 1977 model years. Here's one of those first-year Comets in rough but recognizable condition, found in a Denver self-service yard not long ago. The Comet name had spent the 1960s affixed to the flanks of Mercurized Ford Falcons (1960-1965) and Fairlanes (1966-1969). Since the Maverick was the successor of the Falcon — sales of which went into an irrecoverable downward spiral once its sportier Mustang first cousin hit the streets — it made sense to move the Comet name over to the Mercury version. Nearly every American Mercury model ever sold was a U.S.-market Ford model with a different name and some gingerbread slapped on. Notable exceptions to this tradition include the 1999-2002 Mercury Cougar (mechanically based on the Contour but with a unique body) and the 1991-1994 Mercury Capri (an Australian-built mashup of Mazda components borrowed from the Ford Laser). The Comet was by far the cheapest Mercury model available in 1971, though it was considered more prestigious than its Maverick counterpart. The price tag on the '71 Comet two-door sedan started at $2,217 (about $16,505 in 2022 dollars), while the '71 Maverick two-door sedan cost $2,175 ($16,193 today). Meanwhile, AMC would sell you a new Hornet two-door sedan for one dollar less than a Maverick, Chevrolet had the Nova coupe for a dollar more than the Maverick, and Plymouth offered the Valiant Duster for $2,313 ($17,220 now). Toyota had a Maverick competitor as well that year, with the Corona at $2,150 for the sedan and $2,310 for the coupe. Having driven every one of the aforementioned models, I'd take the Duster if I went back in time and had to choose one (as a 1969 Corona owner, I'm not a fan of the 1971 facelift, though the Corona's build quality beats the Duster's). The build sticker on this car tells us that it was built at the Kansas City Assembly Plant (where Transits and F-150s are made today) and sold through the Los Angeles district sales office (there was a DSO in Denver, so it's a near-certainty that this car didn't start out in Colorado). The paint started out as Bright Blue Metallic (it's neither bright nor metallic 51 years down the road) and the interior was done up in Medium Blue Cloth & Vinyl.
