This clean wagon is an original Palm Springs car, and spent its entire life garaged with the original owner until 2013. I am the second owner. It is in very good condition inside and out. To cut straight to this car's main selling point, this wagon is a very good preservation candidate--it has never seen snow, and virtually no rain. The undercarriage is as clean as the top and interior. It has some door dings along the left lower doors due to the careless garaging of the original owners.
I have all of the history on the car, including original books and the window sticker. It has been maintained and repaired by the Palm Springs Ford L-M dealer since new, with the exception of some refresh work I had done when it was pulled out of its two-year storage. The refresh work consisted of new belts and hoses, water pump, alternator, radiator, fuel pump and oil & filters. Also new brake pads and shoes, distributor cap and rotor, and front shocks. The tires are matching and have about 50% life left. The A/C is ice cold and all heat, A/C, defrost modes work. Carpets, interior trim and headliner are all in very good shape, with the exception of a 4-inch tear in the driver's seat left bolster due to wear. This issue is captured in the photos. The driver's side armrest is showing some cracking, also shown in the photos. No cracks or deformation of the dash. The steering wheel has a brand-new OEM-quality leather wrap & stitching. The original FoMoCo radio had failed, so the previous owners had a decent Kenwood CD player installed. The paint is in good shape overall. Some of the wood trim on the exterior is checking (mostly on the tailgate as shown in the photo). The woodgrain on the rear passenger door was also replaced by the dealer many years ago, and they did a lousy job around the door handle, also shown. But overall the wood's in good shape. There's a mysterious 1/4" hole in the left front fender that nobody can explain, but it's not very apparent. I believe it was for an alarm key switch that was long since removed.
This car is my daily driver, and it is well cared for. Everything works on this car, from the coach lights on the B-pillars to the power antenna and the power rear window. Even the windshield washers work. The power lock on the tailgate is intermittent. Power seats and windows all work. Cruise works. I've had this car on a couple long road trips and don't worry a moment about getting it on the open road. The transmission TV cable has been recently adjusted and the grommet replaced (for those of you who have unfortunate experience with the AOD trans). The engine runs smooth and strong, and the transmission shifts firm through all four gears and reverse. The engine is clean but the valve cover gaskets are starting to leak. The rear main seal also leaks a little. No fuel leaks or emissions problems; it passes California emissions. Exhaust system is fine. There is some pitting in the stainless section that crosses the rear axle. The spare tire is a full-size turbine-style aluminum wheel that matches those on the car.
As you might expect of a Palm Springs car, it has absolutely no rust of any kind underneath, other than the usual surface patina of the axle. The spare tire well has neither rust or damage of any kind. The body mounts are still soft and compliant. The original coil spring and fuel system build tags are still visible on many of the components. Front and rear suspension and the driveline are solid; the car tracks down the road as it should, which is to say it's an 80's land barge, so if you are new to these cars, you shouldn't expect a BMW driving experience. The steering gear is in decent shape, though starting to leak at the high-pressure line fitting.
What does it need? To get in and drive it anywhere, it needs nothing. If I were keeping it, I would replace the power steering hoses and have the rear main seal replaced. Likewise I would replace the valve cover gaskets before the bottom of the car gets too messy. The biggest problem this car has was that it wasn't driven for months at a time, so I have been shaking out all of the issues associated with indoor storage. It should get a throttle body tuneup in the next few thousand miles (new TPS sensor and clean up the carbon buildup) to improve throttle response. Otherwise the car doesn't need much of anything.
My feedback for car buying/selling speaks for itself, so you can bid with confidence. That said, I always recommend that you come and view the vehicle before bidding. I can assist with arranging transportation for out of state buyers (at the buyer's expense of course). It is customary for eBay vehicle transactions that payment is received in full before the vehicle is shipped, so I will not accommodate any unique financing ideas. Please let me know if you'd like to schedule a time to view/drive the car.
Thanks for looking!

Is this '47 Chevrolet a rat rod or a sports car?
Sun, May 22 2016These days there are plenty of vehicles that blur the conventional automotive class structures. For instance, was the Honda Crosstour a wagon or an SUV? And what exactly was the Nissan Murano CrossCabriolet? Regardless, those line-blurring cars (or trucks) are out there, and though this one didn't roll off a production line, it's still quite the automotive head-scratcher. Hailing from Missouri, this epic creation is one part mad science experiment, one part 1947 Chevrolet pickup, and one part '95 Mercury Cougar. Add it all up and you get an awesome truck-sports-car hybrid, complete with an outrageous wing and a V8 to boot. And interestingly enough, it's up for sale . RELATED: Check out this Wild-Styled Lamborghini Rat Rod So how does it all come together? According to the listing, the Chevrolet truck cab (which had previously been chopped) was sanded down to bare metal and given a thorough shellacking of clear coat. It was then melded together with the front end of a 1995 Chevrolet S10 pickup truck, and set low to the ground on Bilstein suspension drop spindles. Stance achieved. But instead of fielding an engine from either of those pickups, it pulls its heart from a 2005 Chevrolet Tahoe SUV—a big 5.3-liter V8 heart, that is. It comes backed-up to a GM Turbo 400 automatic transmission. Towards the rear however is where things get really interesting. A Copper Pearl coated tube frame chassis both attaches the rear independent suspension (a la Mercury Cougar) to the racy spoiler, as well as secures the rat rod's rear-mounted radiator, fan, and fuel tank. I'm not quite sure why, but it just looks glorious. RELATED: Reports Say Mid-Engine Corvette Will Arrive in 2018 Inside the vintage cab, the Chevrolet furthers its racing proclivities (it's said to have won burnout and auto-cross events) with a pair of harnessed racing seats, a drift brake, a detachable steering wheel, and a tachometer with oil and temperature gauges, but oddly no speedometer. The shifter is a crescent wrench. And its shift boot? That's a Crown Royal Purple bag. All in all, this grin-worthy Frankenstein creation tallies up bits and pieces from four different vehicles (five if you include the Camaro wheels), which make it truly a mash-up of epic proportions. Internet, what do you think? Related Video: This article by Zach Doell originally appeared on Boldride. Preposed class-action lawsuit targets 'defective' MyFord Touch
Tue, 16 Jul 2013A national law firm, Hagens Berman Sobol Shapiro LLP, has filed a proposed class action lawsuit whose presupposition is that MyFord Touch is defective. Specifically, the complaint states that the system - as well as the MyLincoln Touch and MyMercury Touch clones - often freeze, fail to respond to voice or touch commands and have issues connecting to mobile phones.
According to Hagens Berman managing partner Steve Berman, MyFord Touch is a theoretically "brilliant idea" that falls short in actual execution. Said Berman in a press release, "In reality, the system is fundamentally flawed, failing to reliably provide functionality, amounting to an inconvenience at best, and a serious safety issue at worst."
Other MFT issues enumerated within the 41-page filing include problems controlling the window defroster, rear-view camera and navigation system. The suit maintains that Ford is aware of the problem but has yet to submit a workable and acceptable solution to MFT customers. Scroll down if you'd like to read the full press release.
Junkyard Gem: 1955 Mercury Montclair Coupe
Wed, Jul 20 2022I find plenty of 1950s Detroit vehicles in the big self-service car graveyards I frequent, but most of them are fairly ordinary sedans that never stood much chance of getting fixed up and put back on the road. Such is not the case with today's Junkyard Gem, which is a top-trim-level, heavily optioned hardtop coupe from one of the most desirable model years of the tailfins-and-chrome postwar era. Nearly every Mercury model ever made was a Ford model with some cosmetic changes applied, and the '55s looked very similar to their mechanically identical Ford brethren. In 1955, the new Mercury came in three trim levels: the entry-level Custom, the medium-zoot Monterey, and the glitzy Montclair. Each was available as a hardtop coupe and four-door sedan, with wagon versions of the Custom and Monterey. The Montclair could be purchased as a convertible or with the wild "Sun Valley" glass roof. The Montclair got its own line of hallucinogenic two-tone interiors, in order to make the daily lives of Europeans feel even more gray and penurious (the UK only dropped food rationing in 1954, and the two Germanies were still clearing the rubble of their blown-up cities). This car's upholstery has been bleached by decades of sitting outside in the harsh High Plains climate, but it started out as vivid red and white "Chromatex" fabric. The list price on this car was $2,631, or about $29,200 in 2022 dollars. The Sun Valley and convertible Montclair each cost $2,712 ($30,100 today). Ford didn't offer a corresponding hardtop coupe in 1955, though the Fairlane Crown Victoria two-door did look extremely snazzy (and cost a mere $2,302— $25,545 now— with the same V8 engine as the Monterey). Meanwhile, Oldsmobile offered the handsome 88 Super Holiday Coupe for $2,714, though the Montclair had the more powerful engine. Oldsmobile had been selling new cars with overhead-valve V8s since the 1949 model year, while Ford didn't ditch the Model A-era flathead V8 for new U.S.-market cars until the 1954 model year (you could buy a new Simca Esplanada in Brazil with an Ardun-headed Ford V8-60 all the way until 1969). GM's Chevrolet Division got all the press in 1955 with the introduction of the brand-new small-block V8 engine, but Ford's 292-cubic-inch (4.8-liter) Y-Block V8 made more power than the 265-cube (4.3-liter) Chevy and the 324ci Olds Rocket 88.
