This is a very nice daily driver.  I'm sorry to sell this car but I need to make room.  This car has spent most of it's life in California and Arizona.  I have owned it for 8 years.  During that time have have fixed or replaced many things, such as: Sequential tail light system now works, Trans and rear main seals have been replaced, new power top motor, new alternator, power steering pump, water pump, radiator, dashboard redone, valve job, original carb professionally rebuilt, sun visors, interior rear window m irror, points, plugs, wires, complete exhause pipes and dual mufflers, 4 new tires. The car belonged to a Snow Bird who lived up north but kept the car either in California or Arizona.  The body is very straight, the paint is 6 months old.  It has not even been color sanded yet although it looks great the way it is.  There are two bucket seats with a console between them.  There is a 8-track player and AM/FM radion.  The radio works great, the 8 track is intermittent.  The dash and everything associated with it is beautiful. The top and power windows work fine.  It still has the original leather interior with Cougar Logo seat backs.  The interior needs a bit of work.  I didn't know whether to keep the original or replace it so I have done neither.  It's all there.  The top is tan and has a glass rear window which needs to be restitched.  The cars starts every time and is fun to drive, it gets a ton of looks.  If you have any questions please ask.  I have included many photos.

On May-02-13 at 17:52:41 PDT, seller added the following information:

Has the Mercury Marauder gotten better with age?

Fri, Oct 23 2015

In the early 2000s Mercury desperately wanted to develop some edge for its brand – seemingly stuck between a quasi-premium, quasi-performance space in the Ford Universe. The Marauder is perhaps the most famous of the vehicles that resulted from those efforts, and is rapidly approaching Modern Classic status, today. Effectively a murdered out Grand Marquis with some updated trim pieces – what are company parts bins for, if not raiding? – the Marauder looked convincingly like a bad guy car. The 4.6-liter V8 under its hood that had been breathed on by engineers for a little more power, kicking out 302 horsepower and 318 pound-feet of torque from the factory. Not exactly Ferrari-baiting numbers, but it'd give your local cop's car a run for its money. Being a wild child of the last decade, of course our friends at MotorWeek had it on the program. What better way to test your mean-mugging muscle sedan than with John Davis' tanned and steady hands?

Feds open investigation into Chevy Express, Ford Freestar rust issues

Wed, 28 Dec 2011

'Tis the season... for road salt. And with that, comes rust. And what does rust bring? Well, for Ford and General Motors, a National Highway Traffic Safety Administration investigation. According to The Detroit News, NHTSA is looking into potential recalls issues with Chevrolet Express vans and Ford Freestar minivans.
The feds have received five complaints that rust has caused leaking fuel filler pipes on 2003 Express vans. Separately, seven complaints have been filed over excessive rust in the rear wheel wells of 2004 Ford Freestar and Mercury Monterey minivans. The Freestar and Monterey went out of production in 2007. Neither issue has resulted in any crashes or injuries, according to the report.

NHTSA investigating Ford's solution to May 2014 power steering recall

Tue, Apr 7 2015

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is investigating a complaint that Ford's response to a May 2014 recall of the 2008 to 2011 Ford Escape and Mercury Mariner doesn't quite go far enough to solve a troubling power-steering problem. Roughly a year ago, Ford recalled nearly a million vehicles after it was found that a problem with the torque sensor's communication with the power steering control module could cut steering assistance for drivers. While manual steering would still be available, the problem was enough to ask drivers to report in to have the PSCM inspected, and if necessary, replaced (along with the torque sensor, or in dramatic cases, the entire steering column). That would only happen, though, if trouble codes were being thrown. If there weren't any problems, dealers were told to simply update the PSCM's software so that any issues between it and the torque sensor would simply throw a visual and audio warning – power steering would still be maintained. The petitioner claimed that following the recall work, he still experienced a problem with the torque sensor. According to NHTSA, a claim was made that Ford didn't go far enough in its solution to the problem, and that "the software update itself may in fact cause further issues with the affected vehicle's power steering, causing it to fail, and ultimately requiring replacement of the torque sensor or entire steering column." The petition was filed in early February and is now officially being looked into by NHTSA.
