There are several pluses and minusus with this car. The negatives---the ugly color someone painted it years ago. There is rust in the floor. Nothing that would cause you to fall through while driving, but as can be expected with this car, it's there. A hole in the trunk floor as shown, the lower quarters have been patched at some point, there are patches in the floor boards. The wheels are horendously ugly !! The good?? It runs extremely strong, it can be driven anywhere, the top is like new. Whoever did the top did a beautiful job. Fits tight with no wrinkles. Almost looks like the top bows were powder coated. I have had this car for about six years. I moved it out of my garage to have some work done in the garage and it wouldn't start. Got frustrated, replaced some gas lines, installed a new battery, drained stale gas and replaced with fresh. Now I am ready to sell. Don't feel like going through same thing six years from now because I never use it and will never take the time to restore it. The interior is in really nice condition. Perfectly serviceable. The headlights are tired, so unless you prop them up at night, you'll be driving in the dark. I am starting this auction at a ridiculous price with no reserve after that. The winner will be getting a driveable 1970 convertible that looks decent. i even have the original manual where the dealer typed in the original owner's info. Sold at Devon Lincoln Mercury on 11/21/69 , Ann Arbor Michigan. Good luck. |

Has the Mercury Marauder gotten better with age?
Fri, Oct 23 2015In the early 2000s Mercury desperately wanted to develop some edge for its brand – seemingly stuck between a quasi-premium, quasi-performance space in the Ford Universe. The Marauder is perhaps the most famous of the vehicles that resulted from those efforts, and is rapidly approaching Modern Classic status, today. Effectively a murdered out Grand Marquis with some updated trim pieces – what are company parts bins for, if not raiding? – the Marauder looked convincingly like a bad guy car. The 4.6-liter V8 under its hood that had been breathed on by engineers for a little more power, kicking out 302 horsepower and 318 pound-feet of torque from the factory. Not exactly Ferrari-baiting numbers, but it'd give your local cop's car a run for its money. Being a wild child of the last decade, of course our friends at MotorWeek had it on the program. What better way to test your mean-mugging muscle sedan than with John Davis' tanned and steady hands?
NHTSA probing 2000-2003 Ford Taurus and Mercury Sable models over throttle issue
Mon, 29 Oct 2012A potential issue with the speed control cable collar has got the 2003-20003 Ford Taurus and Mercury Sable under the spotlight of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. If the collar breaks it can cause the throttle to be stuck open.
The issue is limited to vehicles with the 3.0-liter V6 Duratec. There are just 50 complaints so far out of 310,000 cars, but the NHTSA has begun an investigation into whether a recall should be issued.
Junkyard Gem: 1991 Mercury Capri
Mon, Sep 19 2016Ford has gotten a lot of use out of the Capri name in the United States. First, there was the Lincoln Capri in the 1950s, followed by the Ford Capri Mk1 (which was sold by Mercury dealers in the USA but never actually badged as a Mercury). Then came the 1979-1986 Mercury Capri, built on the very successful Fox Platform and essentially a clone of the Mustang. Finally, in 1991, the Australian Ford Capri came to the United States. Here is an example of this rare car that I spotted in a Northern California self-service yard not long ago. Mechanically speaking, the 1991-1994 Capri was a Mazda 323 under the skin, complete with a member of the same B-series engine family that went into such cars as the Miata and Ford Escort. So, for a few years in the early 1990s, car shoppers who wanted a sporty Mazda convertible could choose between a Miata and a Capri. The Capri had front-wheel-drive, but could be had with factory turbocharging. These cars were reliable and fun, but had a tough time competing with the Miata in the showroom battles. You'll see the occasional example now and then, but most of the 1991-1994 Capris have met the same fate that awaits this one. Related Video:
