1970 Mercury Cougar Eliminator with original 351 C engine and 4 Speed Hurst. Have full documentation from Marti Report showing every option the car came with including factory Competition Gold paint. I bought this car from a man in Oklahoma City that had owned the car since the mid 70s. His grandfather had bought it new and lost interest and gave it to him. I even have a copy of the old brown title from when they signed it from the grandfather to the son. He told me it was driven up until the mid to late 90’s and then parked. It was painted in the early 90’s and it is a driver quality paint job with usual chips and imperfections. This car runs great and drives great too. The only issue is it has is a slight drain on the battery if you leave it hooked up and a slight exhaust leak. Other then that this is a wonderful running and driving car. This car is very rare and you would have a hard time finding another 4-speed competition Gold car with its original engine and transmission. Here is a run through of every aspect of the car:

Exterior: The car was painted in the early 90’s this color, which resembles the Competition Orange, offered by Mercury in 1970. The paint Job is a driver job and it looks pretty good from 20 feet away but it has its normal chips. The car was originally Competition Gold from the factory and there are signs of that color in jams and the trunk. The doors have some small amounts of rust in the front lower corners; it’s not that bad but would need to be patched. The quarter panels have some rust in the lower sides. It looks like there may have been bondo covering rust and it has just started to fail. This car looks fine for a driver but expect a few paint flaws and imperfections.

Interior: The interior is almost all original other then the carpet. The seat covers are all original and only show small amounts of wear. The dash has some imperfections but is straight and somewhat presentable. The console and 4 Speed Hurst shifter are in great condition. It still has its factory rim blow steering wheel and it works. The interior is mostly all original so don’t expect perfection, but its in great shape for its age.

Engine and undercarriage: This car runs and drives great. I don’t know if anything was ever rebuilt or gone thru but from the evidence I find I would say it’s relatively untouched. The 351 C is original to the car, as is the 4 Speed transmission. Everything works as it should under the hood. The 4 speed shifts smoothly. The clutch also operates fine. The floorboards were professionally replaced about a year ago and I see no other rust on the undercarriage.

This cougar Eliminator is a very rare car and I hate to see it go but I’d like to find a new project to work on. This car is in driver condition right now and if somebody wanted to they could restore this thing and have a $50,000 car. Right now though this car is a survivor and a rare find. Bid with confidence that you are purchasing an amazing classic. Call James at 405-550-2440 or 405-570-7191 and leave a message if I don’t answer! Thanks!

Ford announces free brake pad offer if customers stop by dealers

Mon, 04 Aug 2014

These days, when you buy a new car, it's not unreasonable to expect a certain period of free maintenance to come along as well. Sometimes this is through the life of the warranty, in other cases a little less. But Ford Motor Company is going beyond those deals for at least one part of its cars. As of now, if you buy a set of Motorcraft brake pads for a Ford, Lincoln or Mercury model, you get free replacements for as long as you own the vehicle. The offer is good at Ford or Lincoln dealers and Quick Lane Tire & Auto Centers.
"We will replace the pads for as long as you own the vehicle," said Elizabeth Weigandt to Autoblog. She did clarify that the Motorcraft pads are generally for models from the '90s or newer. Also, to take advantage of this program, a person must return to the same dealer each time to get the free parts.
Of course, Ford isn't just handing out brake pads to anyone who walks by; there are certain stipulations. First, the components have to be worn down to less than three millimeters to be eligible, and the buyer still has to pay for the labor to install them. If the model is used as a fleet vehicle for commercial purposes like as a taxi or limousine, this offer also doesn't apply; the same thing for racecars. On the plus side, if you recently bought a set of pads from one of the participating locations, you're still in luck. The deal covers parts purchased as of July 1.

Junkyard Gem: 2007 Mercury Mariner Hybrid

Sat, Dec 19 2020

Once hybrid vehicles from Honda and Toyota proved to work well in the real world of American streets during the early 2000s, other U.S.-market manufacturers climbed aboard the gasoline-electric bandwagon. Ford introduced the Escape Hybrid for the 2005 model year and sales proved quite strong; its Mercury-badged sibling, the Mariner Hybrid, appeared the following year. The Mariner Hybrid never induced many vehicle shoppers to sign on the line which is dotted, despite gasoline prices going absolutely ape in 2008, though it remained available all the way through the Mercury brand's 2010 demise. Here's one of those rare trucks, found in a Denver-area yard last month. The Escape/Mariner Hybrids got amazing fuel economy for tall, truck-shaped machines, though the serious penny-pinchers with long commutes skipped anything built in the 21st century and began driving up the prices of the once-scorned Geo Metro XFi, gas-sipping champion of the previous decade. The Mercury brand was on the ropes by this time, with not much to distinguish the once-distinctive Mercury machines from their near-identical Ford counterparts. The 1999-2002 Cougar was the last Mercury sold here with no twin brothers over in the Ford showrooms. I do see the occasional Escape Hybrid in places like this, though such gas-saving small SUVs tend to retain their value well enough that it takes a crash to retire one. This Mariner Hybrid hit something hard and either flipped on its side or scraped a guardrail for some distance. The airbags deployed and, presumably, spared the occupants from serious injury. That's the good news. The bad news is that fixing this kind of damage to a 13-year-old vehicle made by a defunct brand just isn't worth it to insurance companies, hybrid-electric powertrain or not. We can assume that the battery pack lives on in another Escape/Mariner. Navigation, Bluetooth, and other features that were considered pretty slick in 2007. This truck was in pretty good shape until the very end. Jill Wagner proved that you can bury a Mercury emblem in volcanic soil and it will grow into a brand-new Mariner Hybrid. That's how science works! You can go to the same field and tap on a Mercury emblem, if you want to get a regular gasoline Mariner. Question of the Day: Most degraded car name?

Fri, May 27 2016

When Ford came up with a not-so-sporty version of the Pinto and slapped Mustang badges on it in 1974, that was a low point for the Mustang name. When Chrysler applied the venerable Town & Country name on perfectly functional but unglamorous minivans, it saddened many of us. But perhaps the biggest demotion for a once-proud model came when, in 1988, General Motors imported a misery-enhancing Daewoo from Korea and called it the Pontiac LeMans. The original Pontiac LeMans was a great-looking midsize car with fairly advanced (for the time) suspension design and engine options including potent V8s and a screaming overhead-cam straight-six. The Daewoo-based Pontiac LeMans was a cramped, shoddy hooptie that served only to ruin the LeMans name forever, while stealing sales from the Suzuki-based Chevrolet Sprint. Sure, using the once-respected Monterey name on the Mercurized Ford Freestar was bad, but Mercury didn't have long to live at that point. I say the downward spiral of the LeMans name was the most agonizing in automotive history. What do you think? Related Video: This content is hosted by a third party.
