I had the float replaced. I looked into purchasing a repo fuel pump but because it is a XR7 it has a low fuel light on the upper console it has a special fuel pump that can only be rebuilt not replaced with a repo."

Up for bid is my 1968 Mercury Cougar XR7. I have owned this car for the past 14 years. I purchased it in the car corral at the labor day classic car auction in Auburn, In, in 1999. The Cougar has always been garaged and has probably seen rain once or twice in all the years I have owned it. It has never sat outside all night. Here are some facts about the car: 1) The black interior is all original even the carpet and is in excellent condition. The original AM FM radio still works. All lights on the overhead console work properly, The black vinyl top is original and in excellent condition. Remote driver's side mirror works. All glass is original with no chips or scratches. 2) The color of the Cougar is called Saxony and is a pale yellow. When I purchased the car it still had the original paint from the factory but was in need of some help in areas of paint loss due to age. So in 2004 I had the car stripped, sanded and repainted in the original color. The Cougar was found to be a very solid car with no rust or filler just a great and straight body. During that time I had both bumpers rechromed.. The paint job was great because still today there are no chips, scuffs, or scratches in the paint. I did not have the black pinstripe put back on the car just because I liked the car better without it. 3) The Cougar's engine is a 302 V8 2 Barrel and is original to the car. I had the engine rebuilt in the summer of 2007 just because it was a tired motor not because of any problems. The 302 was rebuilt to original specs so I could keep it as stock as possible. I did put a dual exhaust on it with Flowmaster mufflers. ( it came to me with a single ). I did detail the engine compartment while the engine was out and it looks very good still. 4) All things electrical work on the car with the exception of the gas gauge which I explained earlier in my description. The headlight doors operate well and go up and down smoothly. Sequential turn signals work perfectly as do the brakelights and headlights. All interior lights work. 5) I have also had the transmission rebuilt while the engine was being done. It did not have any issues either. A couple of years ago I put Coker red line tires and reproduction Mercury wheels on the Cougar. They have less than 500 miles on them. All in all this is a wonderful automobile to enjoy.

Regarding payment:    If you choose to purchase this car it is sold as is with no warrenties expressed or implied. I will accept a certified bank check for payment. Please no cash or money orders. Payment must be received within 7 days after the close of the auction or the car will be relisted. If you have any questions concerning this listing you can call me at 248-760-2064 during eastern standard times. If you purchase the car shipping arrangements are up to you, the buyer. Thanks for looking at my Cougar!

Ford finally issues recall for 230K minivans over rust problems

Sun, 10 Mar 2013

The rust issue in the rear wheel wells of 2004-2007 Ford Freestar and Mercury Monterey minivans has finally led to a recall. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration began an investigation into the matter in 2011, said investigation being upgraded to an engineering analysis a year later while NHTSA tried to figure out how many model years should be included in the assessment.
Ford has decided to recall all of the 230,000 minivans potentially affected, namely those sold in salt-belt states and countries like Canada. The excess rust in the rear wheel wells was also able to prevent the third-row seats from locking to the floor of the minivan. To repair the problem, owners can take their minivans to dealers, and the dealers will place new panels in the wheel wells, replace the third-row seat mounting brackets and relocate the latches to an area away from any corrosion.
Ford says it will begin notifying owners during the last week of March.

Ford recalls 600,000 older-model sedans for braking issue

Fri, Dec 20 2019

Ford is recalling 600,166 older-model Ford, Lincoln and Mercury vehicles over an issue that could affect braking and increase the risk of a crash. The safety recall covers certain Ford Fusion, Mercury Milan and Lincoln MKZ sedans from the 2006 through 2010 model years that were built at Ford’s Hermosillo Assembly Plant in Mexico between Feb. 22, 2006, and July 15, 2009. Ford says a valve that is normally closed inside the hydraulic control unit may get stuck in the open position or be slow to close, which could make it harder to engage the brakes and increase risk of a crash. Ford says itÂ’s aware of 15 reports of accidents and two injuries possibly related to the issue. Dealers will inspect the hydraulic control unit for signs of the problem and replace it, if necessary. The dealers will pressure-flush the system with brake fluid and replace the reservoir cap with a new one. Ford is also issuing a small recall of 33 of its 2020 F-150 trucks in the U.S. and 51 in Canada over potentially damaged spare tires. It says the bead area on the tires may have been damaged when it was mounted onto the wheel assembly, leaving it vulnerable to corrosion, separation of the bead wire and ultimately a rapid loss of air pressure and detachment from the wheel. Dealers will replace the spare tire. Affected vehicles were built at the Dearborn Truck Plant from Nov. 10-21 of this year.

Ford finds flex-fuel engine design plays big role in emissions output

Mon, Jan 6 2014

How bad is ethanol for your engine? There's been a lot of debate on this issue as the US considers upping the biofuel content in the national gasoline supply from 10 percent (E10) to 15 percent (E15). The ethanol industry and some scientists say higher ethanol blends show no "meaningful differences" in new engines while the oil industry says ethanol creates health risks. Researchers working at the Ford Research and Innovation Center decided to take a closer look at how a wide range of gas-ethanol blends - E0, E10, E20, E30, E40, E55 and E80 - affected the emissions coming out of a flex-fuel 2006 Mercury Grand Marquis. To see the full report, printed in the journal Environmental Science & Technology, requires payment, but there is an abstract and Green Car Congress has some more details. The gist is that, "with increasing ethanol content in the fuel, the tailpipe emissions of ethanol, acetaldehyde, formaldehyde, methane, and ammonia increased." At least NOx and NMHC emissions decreased. The researchers say that the effects are due to the fuel and "are expected for all FFVs," but that the way that a manufacturer calibrates the engine will affect NOx, THC, and NMOG emissions. It's this last bit that's important, since the researchers found, "Higher ethanol content in gasoline affects several fundamental fuel properties that can impact emissions. ... These changes can have positive or negative effects that can depend on engine design, hardware, and control strategy. In addition to direct emissions impacts, higher ethanol content fuel can also provide more efficient combustion and overall engine operation under part-load conditions and under knock-limited higher-load conditions." So, as we head towards more ethanol in our fuel supply (maybe), manufacturers are going to need to learn how to burn it most efficiently.
