Completely restored 1967 mercury cougar xr7 one of a kind show winner. I have spent the last 8 years and a lot of money completing the following; THE DRIVE TRAIN; custom built 347 ci stroker motor with roller cam, 750 cfm 4150hp Holley carb, msd pro billet distributer w/msd 6al ignition system, all brackets are custom 1 of a kind hand made out of billet aluminum, utilizing a gm thermostat housing , gm power steering pump, a gm 1 wire alternator. All power is transmitted through a ford top loader 4 spd w/Hurst shifter connected to a custom built ford 9 inch rear end w/3.55 gear. The exhaust system starts with hooker headers which have ball flanges added and have been ceramic coated, tig welded to stainless steel magnaflow x pipe the and exits through the magnaflow system, producing the most awesome sound you will ever hear. THE SUSPENSION; the rear suspension has new leaf springs w/ an extra leaf added and a additional inch of arch, new shocks and all bushings, hooks up very well and has no wheel hop. The front suspension has new springs and shocks and a 1 inch sway bar that almost eliminates all body roll, this car corners like its on rails. THE BRAKES; 4 wheel power disc brakes bring this monster to a grinding halt with no effort. The front brakes are from a 1978 ford Granada all new. The rear brakes are from a 1996 ford explorer also all new. THE LIGHTING; the sequential turn signals work very well, was upgraded to electronic version but the mechanical assembly comes with the car. The vacuum head lamps work, but not very well since the vacuum reservoir has been greatly reduced and the large cam reduces engine vacuum. THE INTERIOR; is almost completely original all was either died or recovered, the car was originally an automatic car but no wholes were cut and the factory consol was added. A USA 230 from classic stereos was added (no cutting) w/usb and I pod attachments the front seats were recovered (not very well) and the car comes with a set of hi backs that need recovered. Has new carpet and front kick panels w/ speakers. The head liner has a small hole above driver’s sun visor. THE BODY; has new fender aprons front and rear the core support was laid back 1 inch at the top to facilitate the installation of a electric cooling fan, all the wheel moldings and bumpers and door handles were replaced with re chromed or new have originals that go with the car. A few of the chrome trim pieces have small dings. Has a 1969 mustang rear spoiler and hood scoop. Has 2011 camaro gray metallic paint with black strips the c strip was modeled after the mustang and the xr7 logo was stenciled into the stripe; this was all done in paint under the clear (no stickers). OTHER STUFF; all lines and hoses were replaced with new and sure grip gates heat shrink hose clamps were used that work very well, new gas tank and sending unit, the battery tray was custom built for a 75 series gm side post battery. The horn button was shaved 2 inches as to not be ugly. This car looks great driving down the road gets all kinds of attention at the shows and runs and drives every bit as good. Junkyard Gem: 1977 Mercury Bobcat
Tue, Sep 4 2018Cultural memory of the Ford Pinto, 38 years after the last new ones were sold, boils down to one thing today: the notorious "exploding Pinto" stories of the late 1970s. Yes, many Pinto jokes were told, the resale value of Pintos crashed, and few paid any attention to the fact that most of the cars sold with the fuel tank between the rear axle and the bumper — that is, just about every Detroit car made during the era — suffered from the same weakness. The Mercury version of the Pinto was badged as the Bobcat, but nobody told Bobcat jokes. Here's a '77 Mercury Bobcat 3-Door in vivid Medium Jade paint, spotted in a Denver self-service yard. The Pinto with glass rear hatch was known as the Pinto Runabout in 1977, while Mercury called this car the " Bobcat 3-door with Glass Third Door." When a car sits for years or decades in High Plains Colorado, rodents tend to nest in it. This Bobcat's air cleaner made a cozy home for our Hantavirus-carrying friends. The 1970s were the last gasp for eye-searingly green vinyl car interiors. Since the Bobcat was a luxed-up Pinto, the door panels have shinier trim than what you'd have had in a proletariat-grade Pinto. Pinto/Bobcat transmission choices boiled down to two: a four-speed manual or a three-speed automatic. Unusually for a Malaise Era Mercury, this one has the manual. Most Pintos and Bobcats came with four-cylinder engines, ranging from the 1.6-liter pushrod Kent to the 2.3-liter engine that lived on for many post-Pinto years in Ford Rangers. This car has the 2.3, rated at 89 horsepower, but the same 2.8-liter Cologne V6 that powered the Capri was available as an option in the Bobcat. That engine made a mighty 93 horsepower. These cars were not too miserable to drive by econobox standards of their time, at least when they had three pedals. You'd blow the doors off a '77 Corolla with a 4-speed Bobcat in a drag race, though the Corolla got better fuel economy. This content is hosted by a third party. Does Lincoln Zephyr trademark mean a return to real names?
Wed, May 25 2016Lincoln's long history includes many legendary names, and despite its short life, Zephyr retains a spot in that pantheon. Perhaps its will return once again: Ford Motor Co. applied to trademark Zephyr on May 11. Trademark filings can have ambiguous meanings, and often they're legal plays to get or keep the rights to a name. But in the last year, we've seen signs Lincoln is looking to use real names on its vehicles again. Obviously, it's keeping Navigator for its flagship sport-utility vehicle with a new model due next year. Reprising Continental for the MKS replacement was also well received. That said, Lincoln still uses the MKX and MKC "names" for its crossovers. Zephyr is a dustier moniker. It was used in the 1930s and '40s on a mid-level model spearheaded by Edsel Ford. The stylishly aerodynamic model was set between the Ford V8 De Luxe and more expensive Lincolns. It returned in 2006 as the Lincoln version of the Ford Fusion before that model was renamed MKZ. Mercury also used Zephyr on its version of the Ford Fairmont in the late 1970s and early '80s. Ford last held a trademark on the Zephyr name in 2013. The filing says Ford seeks to use Zephyr for "motor vehicles and parts and accessories therefor." That could mean a new car — or just parts. Putting the Zephyr badge back on the MKZ is the most likely bet. Meanwhile, Ford also moved to get the Thunderbird trademark on May 11 for the same vehicles and parts purpose, and it filed for the Mustang trademark for shampoo and lotions on May 4. A Lincoln spokesman said, "In the normal course of our business, we file trademarks for names," but had no further information. Related Video:
Junkyard Gem: 1973 Mercury Montego MX Brougham Sawzall Convertible Edition
Fri, Apr 21 2017You know how it goes— the weather is warm, you want to do some top-down driving, and you lack a proper convertible... but you do have a hooptie Detroit car on one side of the garage and a big ol' Sawzall on the other. Put the two together and you have a Sawzall Convertible, which generally lasts for about one summer before it gets scrapped. Here's a fine example of such a car, photographed in a San Francisco Bay Area self-service junkyard. Most Sawzall Convertibles (yes, it should be called a roadster, but nobody does that) have raw, ragged metal edges, or maybe duct tape over the stumps of the amputated pillars, but someone went to the trouble to weld nice smooth metal covers over the hackage on this one. The windshield is gone. Instead, the windshield frame is ringed by tongue depressors held in place by gooey roofing tar. No, we don't know why. The Montego MX Brougham was a hot-selling personal luxury coupe in its day, selling for $3,041 in 1973. That's just under $17,000 in 2017 dollars. It must have been fun, cruising this thing on Bay Area streets with no roof and a rattle-can spray-bomb job. This one has the optional 400-cubic-inch V8 engine, rated at 171 horsepower. What would this car's original buyer have thought of its fate? This content is hosted by a third party. To view it, please update your privacy preferences. Manage Settings.
