this is a real good Comet Caliente convertible project car. it hasn't been driven in about 5 years now. body is very straight showing minimal rust. there is some rust in the floorboards but you could jump up and down on them so not Flintstone style yet. the battery tray is rusted and there is one hole in the engine compartment up near the hood hinge that I took a closeup of. other than that the engine compartment is very sound. I have the hood and trunk lid trim strips as well as the kick plates for the door openings. trunk is good and solid, I have a few spare parts in there that come with the car. the top frame is in nice shape and the power top operates fine. the top itself is in poor condition and needs to be replaced. brakes are not currently working. I can put a battery in and it will crank fine but is not getting spark. I'm not getting fuel delivery either, I assume the fuel line gummed up or fuel pump took a crap from sitting. if it doesn't sell for a reasonable price as it sits, I'll take care of these issues and ask more for it next time around. tires are in good shape but are outdated. seats are actually pretty good, they are from another Comet convertible. the originals were just black- I have the original front seat and it comes with the car if you want it. the car came from the factory with a 6 cylinder engine in it so the 260 is not original. I have the car listed locally in the DC area also so reserve the right to end the auction early. it's a pretty darn good starting place for a builder. hope it's just what you've been looking for- thanks for looking, and good luck bidding!

Mercury rises around sexy Cougar pack
Sat, May 30 2015With a slightly larger body and a more luxurious interior, the Mercury Cougar doesn't carry quite as much cachet among pony car enthusiasts as the venerable Ford Mustang. But don't try to make that argument around Cougar super-fan Mike Brown. Since starting his Cougar collecting in 1988, Brown has become an absolute expert on the model, and he claims to have owned 400 of the Mercury pony cars in that time. Ten of them are in his collection today, not to mention a heap of spare parts in the garage. Check out some of the rarer members of Brown's fleet and allow him to tell you about them in this interesting interview from Electric Federal.
Does Lincoln Zephyr trademark mean a return to real names?
Wed, May 25 2016Lincoln's long history includes many legendary names, and despite its short life, Zephyr retains a spot in that pantheon. Perhaps its will return once again: Ford Motor Co. applied to trademark Zephyr on May 11. Trademark filings can have ambiguous meanings, and often they're legal plays to get or keep the rights to a name. But in the last year, we've seen signs Lincoln is looking to use real names on its vehicles again. Obviously, it's keeping Navigator for its flagship sport-utility vehicle with a new model due next year. Reprising Continental for the MKS replacement was also well received. That said, Lincoln still uses the MKX and MKC "names" for its crossovers. Zephyr is a dustier moniker. It was used in the 1930s and '40s on a mid-level model spearheaded by Edsel Ford. The stylishly aerodynamic model was set between the Ford V8 De Luxe and more expensive Lincolns. It returned in 2006 as the Lincoln version of the Ford Fusion before that model was renamed MKZ. Mercury also used Zephyr on its version of the Ford Fairmont in the late 1970s and early '80s. Ford last held a trademark on the Zephyr name in 2013. The filing says Ford seeks to use Zephyr for "motor vehicles and parts and accessories therefor." That could mean a new car — or just parts. Putting the Zephyr badge back on the MKZ is the most likely bet. Meanwhile, Ford also moved to get the Thunderbird trademark on May 11 for the same vehicles and parts purpose, and it filed for the Mustang trademark for shampoo and lotions on May 4. A Lincoln spokesman said, "In the normal course of our business, we file trademarks for names," but had no further information. Related Video:
Curtain officially comes down on Mercury as dealers remove signage
Mon, 03 Jan 2011The process of shutting down the Mercury is complete. Ford officially made the decision to close its mid-level brand in June of 2010. In the months that followed, Ford offered its dealers money to stop selling the cars, with production shutting down in September. The last Mercury, a Mariner, rolled off the assembly line in the beginning of October and former spokesperson Jill Wagner said her good-byes to both the car and her job. Now the last piece of the brand has come down as dealers are removing any and all Mercury signage from their lots.
