1964 Mercury Comet 202 on 2040-cars
Lebanon, Indiana, United States
I am selling my 1964 Mercury Comet that I have owned for the past 10 years. It has 77,500 original miles. When I bought the car in June of 2004 it had 57300 miles, as reflected on the title. I have spent countless hours, effort and money to restore. It is in excellent condition. Ready to enjoy, drive, take to shows and be proud of. This Comet had started its life as a maroon vehicle. But since blue is my favorite color and I grew up in a blue 1964 Comet, the only choice for this one was blue. It was painted in a high quality, base coat clear coat. All panels of this car are incredibly straight (ie... fenders and quarter panels and behind all wheels). There was rust in the floor on the front passenger side that was cut out and metal put back in. All door jams were also painted. Windshield wipers do not work. The passenger side windshield does have a 6 inch crack that happened about 8 years ago that has not progressed. It has new carpeting and the front seat cushions were recovered. The headliner could use replacing as it has 2 wholes in it. All 4 breaks have been completly rebuilt including shoes, springs, adjusters and wheel cylinders. There are no breaking issues. There is no smoke from the 6 cylinder engine. These 6 cylinder engines are known to have issues with exhaust manifold leakage. As part of the countless hours I have mentioned, I searched and found a new exhaust manifold and the original was replaced. There is absolutely no manifold leakage with this car. Very quiet. The air filter housing, fuel filter cylinder and valve cover have all been painted in the same blue base coat clear coat as the rest of the automobile. Radiator, ignition coil, distrtibutor cap, wires, rotor, points and condensor are all new. All lights operate including all dash board lights. All factory guages work properly except the temperature gauge. The gas tank was removed, cleaned and new sending unit was installed. It has a stereo/cd player installed under the dash with a high quality speaker system mounted in the package tray behind the rear seat. It also has 4 new radial tires. This car is ready for you to enjoy and well worth the low reserve price. Thank you for your interest in my Comet.

Has the Mercury Marauder gotten better with age?
Fri, Oct 23 2015In the early 2000s Mercury desperately wanted to develop some edge for its brand – seemingly stuck between a quasi-premium, quasi-performance space in the Ford Universe. The Marauder is perhaps the most famous of the vehicles that resulted from those efforts, and is rapidly approaching Modern Classic status, today. Effectively a murdered out Grand Marquis with some updated trim pieces – what are company parts bins for, if not raiding? – the Marauder looked convincingly like a bad guy car. The 4.6-liter V8 under its hood that had been breathed on by engineers for a little more power, kicking out 302 horsepower and 318 pound-feet of torque from the factory. Not exactly Ferrari-baiting numbers, but it'd give your local cop's car a run for its money. Being a wild child of the last decade, of course our friends at MotorWeek had it on the program. What better way to test your mean-mugging muscle sedan than with John Davis' tanned and steady hands?
Mercury rises around sexy Cougar pack
Sat, May 30 2015With a slightly larger body and a more luxurious interior, the Mercury Cougar doesn't carry quite as much cachet among pony car enthusiasts as the venerable Ford Mustang. But don't try to make that argument around Cougar super-fan Mike Brown. Since starting his Cougar collecting in 1988, Brown has become an absolute expert on the model, and he claims to have owned 400 of the Mercury pony cars in that time. Ten of them are in his collection today, not to mention a heap of spare parts in the garage. Check out some of the rarer members of Brown's fleet and allow him to tell you about them in this interesting interview from Electric Federal.
NHTSA investigating 500k Ford and Mercury cars for lighting failures
Mon, Apr 6 2015The Ford Crown Victoria and Mercury Grand Marquis might be long gone as new models in showrooms, but the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration might check them out yet again for a potential problem. At the urging of North Carolina Consumers Council, the agency may open another investigation into the front lighting control module on vehicles from the 2003-2005 model years, and NHTSA estimates the issue could affect 517,945 vehicles. If the module stops working, it can cause a complete failure of all forward lighting, including the headlights. NHTSA previously investigated the issue in 2008 and 2009 but found no need for a recall, according to Bloomberg. Ford also extended the warranty on the part to 15 years or 250,000 miles. To prompt this new request, the North Carolina Consumers Council received a letter from a woman experiencing the module's failure. Upon further investigation, the council found 604 complaints of this problem on NHTSA's website, including seven crashes. Furthermore, the group has alleged that dealers told customers that the parts to perform the replacement weren't available, despite the extended warranty. According to the government agency, "A defect petition has been opened to evaluate the issue and make a grant or deny decision." Ford spokesperson Kelli Felker tells Autoblog via email, "We will cooperate with NHTSA, as we always do." You can read the council's complete letter to the Feds in PDF format, here. The petition letter is attached for review. The petitioner alleges a defect in the lighting control module that powers the headlights which can result in the loss of vehicle headlights and/or all exterior lighting while driving. ODI has previously investigated this issue under PE08-066 which was closed without a defect finding.
