Up for sale is my 1979 Mercury Capri.  I have owned this vehicle since 2006. Originally a 3.3 liter inline 6, 3 speed automatic.  Original color was red. The car was in fairly rough shape when purchased. I have gone through the car from front to back over the last 7 years. Car was stripped down to bare shell, paint removed down to bare metal and epoxy primed, before doing body work and paint. The car now sports a factory 1979 Capri color, Tangerine. All mouldings were removed, cleaned, painted and reapplied with 3m tape. Sunroof body seal replaced. Drivers door seal replaced as well. Other seals are near perfect. Small 3" rot hole under drivers footwell has been cut out, repair welded and seam sealed. Sunroof drains replaced. All bulbs replaced. Rear window was replaced with PPG glass. Outside is stock appearing, with new reproduction Capri and Mercury badges, as well as reproduction RS decals on fenders and hood.  Hood was replaced when body painted with NOS Ford turbo hood, allowing v8 to clear under stock hood scoop.  Interior has been upgraded with 1991 Mustang GT sport seats, reupholstered in black vinyl to match original rear seat. All gauges replaced with mechanical Autometer and sunpro. Odometer was replaced at 101, 500 miles, and now reads around 14,xxx making approximate mileage 115k. Carpet was replaced a few years back, headliner as well, new black cloth. Interior door panels removed, cleaned, re-dyed and new carpet instal;led on lower portions. Steering wheel is stock 3 spoke, repainted.  Dash pad is out of an 85 mustang, and has a few small holes by speaker grills. Shifter is a Chrome Hurst direct fit for the stock console.

Motor is a stock 84 302 block, .030 over, with a 3.4" stroker crank. Forged 11:1 pistons and forged I-beam rods, balanced within +/- .5 gram. ARP main studs complete the short block. Short block done at time of Odometer/speedometer replacement, and reflect mileage of motor.   Valvetrain was done last year. More than 800,000 Fords recalled for faulty Takata airbags

Thu, Jan 12 2017

The Basics: Ford is recalling about 816,000 Ford, Lincoln, and Mercury vehicles built in the US for faulty passenger-side Takata airbags. The affected vehicles were all built in North America, with 654,695 recalled vehicles in the US and 161,174 vehicles in Canada. A wide variety of cars, trucks, and SUVs are affected. This is a planned expansion of an earlier recall. 2005-09 and 2012 Ford Mustang 2005-06 Ford GT 2006-09 and 2012 Ford Fusion 2007-09 Ford Ranger 2007-09 Ford Edge 2006-09 and 2012 Lincoln Zephyr and Lincoln MKZ 2007-09 Lincoln MKX 2006-09 Mercury Milan The Problem: Like every other Takata recall, the problem rests with faulty airbags that can potentially expel shrapnel, injuring or killing vehicle occupants. Millions of vehicles from dozens of automakers are affected, so don't think that Ford is alone on this one. Injuries/Deaths: Ford stated in a press release that there have been no injuries or death linked to the vehicles in this recall. All in all, 11 deaths and 180 injuries across a variety of automakers have been linked to these Takata airbags. The fix: Ford will contact owners soon, and the affected vehicles will have their airbags replaced by a dealer at no additional charge. If you own one: Wait for contact from Ford, then head to the dealer to get a replacement. If you're wondering if your vehicle is affected, go to this Ford website and enter their Vehicle Identification Number (VIN). The recall reference number is 17S01. Jill Wagner retired as Mercury spokeswoman

Wed, 17 Nov 2010

Jill Wagner has officially given up her crown as the queen of Mercury. With the Ford middle child on its way to the scrap heap, Wagner no longer has any automotive hardware to promote. Given her varied talents, we wouldn't be surprised to see her pick up where she left off with another automaker.
And here you thought you'd never be upset about Mercury's passing.
Thanks for the tip, Gregg!

Report: Lincoln getting all of Mercury's ad dollars

Mon, 03 Jan 2011

Now that the curtain has closed on Mercury, Ford Motor Company will redirect all of its marketing dollars for the oft-overlooked brand to the Blue Oval's luxury outpost, Lincoln. In speaking to Automotive News, the chairman of the Lincoln National Dealer Council, Bob Tasca, Jr., said, "You'll see a lot stronger presence in the advertising of Lincoln in 2011."
Lincoln spokesperson Christian Bokich reminded AN that the automaker is "preparing the way for seven new or significantly refreshed vehicles" that will be launched over the next four years, and the largest ad blitz in 2011 will focus on the refreshed MKX crossover, as well as the MKZ sedan and its hybrid counterpart. Following that, Lincoln has plans to launch a completely overhauled version of its Navigator SUV, an all-new C-segment vehicle and the overhauled 2013 MKZ, which Tasca says will be "strikingly different from its Ford Fusion sibling."
