Up for auction I have a rare find, 1976 Mercury Capri II. I'm selling it for a friend of mine that is unable to work on it anymore due to recent health issues. The body is in excelent condition for the age, It will need very little if any body work, There are no dents to speak of, Its a very solid car. There is a small hole in the floor board that looks like was made from the drivers seat mount worn through about 2 inches by 3 inches. The front seat is not from this car and is a pass side seat from an unknown car, This is how I got it and I have no other front seats, There only appears to be some surface rust around the rear window and the cheapo paint job is chipping from that area it looks worse in the pic then it really is. The bumpers are missing and I got the car that way. The wheels are off of another car again unknown donor, the tires look to be in good shape great tread but would not trust on freeway. I drove this car a week ago and it runs very well, no rattles, knocks and does not smoke, It runs pretty smooth and pulls very hard just like the true german 2.8's should. I did light up the tires and got it sideways in second gear. (testing the trans & clutch) I got it up to 70 mph very easily but it does have the standard high speed wobble that the capri's were known for at over 45 mph and lightly hit brakes (needs front end bushings and maybe struts). The heater core is not connected as it probably leaked, The brakes are very good and it stops nice, I'm also including a new set of pads just as I got with car, There is a spare tire, The car does have true factory dual exhaust with origional cats intact and does not appear to have any leaks, The dash needs fixed as in pics as well as the steering wheel, the steering seems nice and tight with minimal play at all, The transmission and rearend feel very tight without noises, the shifter is a little sloppy not too bad, I looked at it and it just needs linkage bushings redone, The glass is all intact but this is arizona and all the rubber is in bad shape and has shrunk from age so the glass is not being held in very secure, Windshield is cracked. Now for the Bad!!! haha the starter is no good I took it out its sitting in my shop and will need replaced, they are $80 at O'Reilly auto parts. I have been push starting the car without any probs. If the bidding gets to a decent price I will consider buying a starter. If you have any questions please ask before bidding is in its last day as I do not watch the auctions or my emails as I have other things going on. If you are in the phoenix area you are more then welcome to come and look at the car you will not be dissapointed. I'm listing any and all items I see with car and I do my very best to list all of them. This is how I got the car from my friend and this is how its being sold. This is a No reserve auction and the high bidder wins so do not wait till the last minute to bid as it may be over before you get a bid in!!!!

Junkyard Gem: 1970 Mercury Cougar
Tue, Oct 10 2017The plot of the Mercury Cougar story took a lot of strange twists and turns during its 35 or so years, from ponycar to immense luxobarge to family sedan to station wagon to Integra competitor. Examples of the first Cougar generation are nearly extinct in American wrecking yards, so I was excited to spot this one in Denver. Lest you shed any tears over this car going to the crusher, know that it was suffering from the ravenous teeth of the Rust Monster long before it got here. The 1967-1970 Cougar was based on the Mustang platform of the same era, and so it was a sleeker and quicker cat than its successors. Still, the longer wheelbase, extra equipment and all the cool-looking bodywork added some heft; the 1970 Mustang hardtop with V8 scaled in at 2,923 pounds, while the 1970 Cougar weighed 3,307 pounds. The current Ford Focus would fit just between those two weights. There was also a mid-cycle refresh in that era, with the '67-'68 and '69-'70 having different exterior styling and interiors. The '69 and '70 had different front end styling as well, with the latter re-adopting the vertical grille slats featured on the earlier model years. The '69 has horizontal slats. The drivetrain and just about everything else of value has been shorn from this car, perhaps before it arrived in this yard. In 1970, a bewildering assortment of V8 engines was available in the Cougar, including a Boss 302, two completely different 351s, and a 335-horse Cobra Jet 428. The base engine was a 351 Windsor making 250 gross horsepower. Since car rooftops mostly don't rust, why would someone cut out this one? Sheet metal needed for patching a leaky shed roof, perhaps? This 2005-2006 Denver Nuggets window sticker indicates that the car was on the street (probably) as recently as 11 years ago. This content is hosted by a third party. More than 800,000 Fords recalled for faulty Takata airbags
Thu, Jan 12 2017The Basics: Ford is recalling about 816,000 Ford, Lincoln, and Mercury vehicles built in the US for faulty passenger-side Takata airbags. The affected vehicles were all built in North America, with 654,695 recalled vehicles in the US and 161,174 vehicles in Canada. A wide variety of cars, trucks, and SUVs are affected. This is a planned expansion of an earlier recall. 2005-09 and 2012 Ford Mustang 2005-06 Ford GT 2006-09 and 2012 Ford Fusion 2007-09 Ford Ranger 2007-09 Ford Edge 2006-09 and 2012 Lincoln Zephyr and Lincoln MKZ 2007-09 Lincoln MKX 2006-09 Mercury Milan The Problem: Like every other Takata recall, the problem rests with faulty airbags that can potentially expel shrapnel, injuring or killing vehicle occupants. Millions of vehicles from dozens of automakers are affected, so don't think that Ford is alone on this one. Injuries/Deaths: Ford stated in a press release that there have been no injuries or death linked to the vehicles in this recall. All in all, 11 deaths and 180 injuries across a variety of automakers have been linked to these Takata airbags. The fix: Ford will contact owners soon, and the affected vehicles will have their airbags replaced by a dealer at no additional charge. If you own one: Wait for contact from Ford, then head to the dealer to get a replacement. If you're wondering if your vehicle is affected, go to this Ford website and enter their Vehicle Identification Number (VIN). The recall reference number is 17S01. Curtain officially comes down on Mercury as dealers remove signage
Mon, 03 Jan 2011The process of shutting down the Mercury is complete. Ford officially made the decision to close its mid-level brand in June of 2010. In the months that followed, Ford offered its dealers money to stop selling the cars, with production shutting down in September. The last Mercury, a Mariner, rolled off the assembly line in the beginning of October and former spokesperson Jill Wagner said her good-byes to both the car and her job. Now the last piece of the brand has come down as dealers are removing any and all Mercury signage from their lots.
