Up for auction is a beautiful Blue Ice 1966 Mercury Park Lane with 93k miles.  The Park Lane is one of 17 models that made up the Mercury offering for 1966. This would be a lovely collector car for any Mercury/Lincoln enthusiast.  It runs and drives great, especially for its age.  This is a one-family-owned car out of Manassas, Virginia.  It is a very solid, rust-free vehicle. Options include Marauder 410 V8 engine, Multi Drive Merc-O-Matic automatic transmission, manual crank windows with crank vent windows, bench seats, add on AM/FM Cassette player (below the original AM radio), A/C, which is currently not blowing cold, power brakes and power steering, and keyless door locking.  The front chrome bumper on this car is in very nice shape with no pitting or peeling.  The rear bumper, however, has some minor peeling and some pitting.  The chrome trim around the windows and vinyl top are in excellent shape.  The white vinyl top is also in great shape. The dash and armrests on the door panels are also in very good original shape--no cracks or dryness.  The vinyl covering on the glove box is separating slightly from the metal, but is very solid.  The car also has original wheel covers, which are in very nice shape.  The brakes are good.  There's a brand new matching set of 4 General Ameri G4S tires on the Park Lane with deep tread left.  The blue cloth interior has been protected since new with the original special order clear plastic front seat cover.  It also has original Mercury vinyl twin front & rear floor mats protecting the carpeting.

The original 1966 Mercury owners manual is present with window sticker and service records.  All doors, trunk and hood open, close, and lock properly.  The paint on the car is in good shape, with some panels possibly having been repainted over the years, however, the paint matches nicely.  This lovely Mercury Park Lane comes with two sets of ignition and two sets of door keys.  We have the car for sale locally, so we reserve the right to end the auction early.  We can facilitate shipping but it must be paid for by purchaser.  If you have any questions please call before bidding: 607-329-8668 or 607-769-1181.  A walk-around of the vehicle via Facetime can be arranged if needed.   Happy Bidding!

Junkyard Gem: 1996 Nissan Quest XE with 338,549 miles

Sun, Jul 9 2023

When I hit the junkyard, I always look for vehicles with impressive final figures showing on their odometers. I find so many Hondas and Toyotas with better than 300,000 miles that I don't consider them especially noteworthy (the exception being super-low-spec cheap models, such as a Tercel or Civic VX), and it goes without saying that the bar is quite high for Mercedes-Benzes as well. It has been surprisingly difficult to find discarded Nissans that made it past the 300k mark; today's Junkyard Gem is just the fourth I've documented. The highest-mile junked Nissan I'd found prior to today's minivan is a 1994 Maxima with 364,238 miles, followed by a 1987 Maxima with 341,176 miles and a 1986 200SX with 309,222 miles. Keep in mind that Nissan didn't go to six-digit odometers on most of its US-market cars until the early 1980s, and then went to tough-to-read-in-the-junkyard electronic odometers in the early 2000s; this means the pool of potential high-mile Nissans is limited to about the 1983-2000 range of model years. Ford has just as much right to claim credit to this van's impressive mile total as does Nissan, since the Quest was a collaboration between Ford and Nissan that also produced the Mercury Villager; this van was built by Ford at the Ohio Assembly plant. The Quest/Villager platform was derived from the Maxima's, and the engine is pure Nissan: a 3.0-liter VG30 V6 rated at 151 horsepower. The only transmission available in the first-generation (1993-1999) Quest/Villager was a four-speed automatic. This one appears to have been sold new at Landrum Nissan in Pueblo. The rear glass has been painted flat black, possibly to keep prying eyes from seeing valuable cargo. The rear seats are long gone, so this van probably hauled cargo for much of its long life. The front interior seems to be in good shape. Why is this van here? There's body damage on the left rear and right front, suggesting a crash that may have bent the suspension past the worth-fixing threshold. Perhaps the crinkled metal just made this van too unsightly, or maybe some powertrain problem was the culprit. This content is hosted by a third party. NHTSA and Ford investigating steering issues in Crown Vic, Grand Marquis and Marauder

Fri, 11 Jul 2014

There may be more steering woes for the Ford Crown Victoria. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has opened a preliminary evaluation into the Crown Vic and Mercury Grand Marquis from the 2004 to 2007 model years and the Mercury Marauder for the 2004 and 2005 model years because the steering shaft can jam. The issue could potentially affect an estimated 500,000 vehicles.
According to the regulator, there is a possibility that the driver's side heat shield for the exhaust manifold can rust, dislodge, and then wedge into the steering shaft. If this occurs, it leads to a situation where the driver can no longer control the car.
NHTSA has received five complaints of this happening, including one alleged case with an injury. In that situation, the car was driving onto the highway, lost control and rolled over. One occupant was hurt in the accident.

eBay Find of the Day: Mercury Marauder two-door convertible

Wed, 31 Aug 2011

Never underestimate what you'll see on eBay Motors. Take this unique creation, for example. Near as we can tell, it's the same 2002 Mercury Marauder that was modified into a two-door convertible by Ford for the 2002 Chicago Auto Show. According to the seller, this car still boasts its Eaton supercharger bolted to a 4.6-liter V8 engine, and at the time of its debut, the engine was rated at a lofty 335 horsepower. We have a hard time believing that the extra ponies would do much to offset the weight of the additional frame stiffeners and top mechanism on the car, however.
The vehicle is currently offered for sale by a dealer in Lansdale, Pennsylvania, though the listing is mum on how the convertible managed to make its way from Ford's Windy City show stand into the seller's inventory. If you like what you see, the machine can be yours for the princely sum of $75,000 or best offer. Head over to eBay Motors to take a gander at the listing.
