Clean And Reliable 2005 Mercury Sable Ls Sedan 4-door 3.0l Needs Transmission on 2040-cars
Exton, Pennsylvania, United States
This was my daily driver up until a week ago when the transmission began to act up. We have been on the market for an SUV so it gave me the excuse to go shop!
Car was purchased from my boss back in 2008 who is a professional mechanic/detailer. He insured it as part of his company 'fleet', but It was his wife's car, had 48,000 miles when I bought it. As a company vehicle however it was fully inspected before being sold and checked out. Since then has had yearly I inspections and has been kept up mechanically very well. Interior was also kept up very well. As I mentioned I work for a professional detailer so it got cleaned very often! Previous owner was a Light smoker so there are some marks in the upholstery however there is no trace of smell in the car as it has not been smoked in since 2008 and was professionally cleaned. It's a great, comfortable car to drive. As I said only reason for selling is the transmission issue. The car still drives relatively well at this point, however shifts hard at higher speeds and does not go in reverse or drive in first gear. The transmission will hold the car in place on a hill in reverse but will not actually power it backwards. It acts up for a little while before the information center begins to read check transmission. At the same time as the transmission issue the ABS and traction control lights kicked on, I assume that is related but I do not know. Besides that, everything works with the exception of the windshield wash which needs nothing more than the hose replaced. It separated and at the moment is washing the engine instead of the windshield! The outside is in decent shape as well. Only things to note are a blemished back bumper from backing into a cart keeper in a parking lot (is not cracked, the paint just began to chip after the impact), a chip out of the driver tail light but light is not fogged up at all and a decent scratch in the front hood from when one of the kids, god love them, tried to shovel the snow off my car >.< I'll let the pictures do the rest of the talking. Email me with any questions or if you would like to set up a time to view the vehicle. As I said it does drive, but I do not know how much longer it will. You may certainly try to drive it home and have it towed from where it stops, or tow it the entire way. If your lucky maybe it'll make it the whole way! |

NHTSA will investigate some Ford Fusion, Lincoln MKZ models for power steering issue
Tue, 07 Oct 2014The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is opening an investigation into the 2010-2012 Ford Fusion, Fusion Hybrid and Lincoln MKZ, the 2012 MKZ Hybrid and 2011 Mercury Milan because the agency has hundreds of complaints of electric power steering failure in these models.
According to NHTSA's data, it has received 508 complaints of the power steering allegedly suddenly malfunctioning and resulting in increased effort to turn the wheel. In four incidents, these failures resulted in loss of control and crashes. According to the reports, in some cases a power steering warning message came on as the fault occurred, and other times the system restored itself by turning off and then restarting the vehicle. NHTSA said it has also received further field report data from Ford, but that information hasn't been publicly released yet.
For the moment, there isn't a recall for this failure on these models. NHTSA is just investigating them to "assess the scope, frequency and safety consequences of the alleged defect," and the agency says an estimated 938,000 vehicles could potentially be affected.
Petrolicious shows Mercedes 280SL as architecture in motion
Wed, Jun 17 2015While still an absolute beauty today, the design of the pagoda-roof W113 Mercedes-Benz SL was revolutionary when it debuted. Moving away from the soft curves of the previous SL models, the all-new generation brought an upright, angular shape that was as much architectural as automotive. In the latest video from Petrolicious, owner and architect Daniel Monti expounds on the inspiration that he gets from his 1969 280SL's fantastic styling. The roof is the most famous design feature of this generation of SL. Look at the top from the front or back, and you can see a gentle, downward arc that evokes the look of a pagoda. That one styling element is also a fabulous counterpoint to a vehicle that is largely more angular than curvaceous. Petrolicious wonderfully illustrates how some of the SL's form-follows-function design aesthetic can be found in the architect's work in this video's heaping helping of mid-century modern goodness.
Does Lincoln Zephyr trademark mean a return to real names?
Wed, May 25 2016Lincoln's long history includes many legendary names, and despite its short life, Zephyr retains a spot in that pantheon. Perhaps its will return once again: Ford Motor Co. applied to trademark Zephyr on May 11. Trademark filings can have ambiguous meanings, and often they're legal plays to get or keep the rights to a name. But in the last year, we've seen signs Lincoln is looking to use real names on its vehicles again. Obviously, it's keeping Navigator for its flagship sport-utility vehicle with a new model due next year. Reprising Continental for the MKS replacement was also well received. That said, Lincoln still uses the MKX and MKC "names" for its crossovers. Zephyr is a dustier moniker. It was used in the 1930s and '40s on a mid-level model spearheaded by Edsel Ford. The stylishly aerodynamic model was set between the Ford V8 De Luxe and more expensive Lincolns. It returned in 2006 as the Lincoln version of the Ford Fusion before that model was renamed MKZ. Mercury also used Zephyr on its version of the Ford Fairmont in the late 1970s and early '80s. Ford last held a trademark on the Zephyr name in 2013. The filing says Ford seeks to use Zephyr for "motor vehicles and parts and accessories therefor." That could mean a new car — or just parts. Putting the Zephyr badge back on the MKZ is the most likely bet. Meanwhile, Ford also moved to get the Thunderbird trademark on May 11 for the same vehicles and parts purpose, and it filed for the Mustang trademark for shampoo and lotions on May 4. A Lincoln spokesman said, "In the normal course of our business, we file trademarks for names," but had no further information. Related Video:
