Up for auction is a very solid and reliable Mercury Sable LS sedan. This has been a very dependable car over the last 15 years of ownership that I have driven it both as a company car and as a second car that was driven by my deceased wife. Due to the fact it has been driven very little over the last 2 years, I have decided that it is time to let it go to someone who can use it as a daily driver. It is a very highly optioned vehicle with sunroof, AM-FM cassette player, power windows, and a very good working cold air conditioning system for use in the summer. It also has a handy little trailer hitch which I added if you would like to pull a small utility trailer. The paint color is spruce green in decent shape but does have the one small dent above the front passenger fender that occurred in a parking lot area. It would be an easy fix for anyone who does paintless dent repair but by no means takes away from the fact that this car is a good driving vehicle with plenty of pick up. The fuel economy is excellent and I have found the highway to average around 30 MPG and the city to be about 22 mpg. As you can see from the original window sticker, this was a 21,000 dollar car when I purchased it new. Here is your chance to get a good running automobile without making a huge financial investment. All interested persons are invited to inspect and test drive the vehicle and I am sure you will agree there are a lot of miles still left in this car! The car has a current inspection sticker on it and the tires have at least half of their tread life still remaining. I would not hesitate to take this car on a cross country drive. All emails will be answered within 24 hours. This car will be sold to the highest bidder in this NO RESERVE auction. If you don't have a paypal account and would like to purchase the vehicle, please email me so we can make other payment arrangements. Thanks for looking and good luck!

Question of the Day: Most degraded car name?
Fri, May 27 2016When Ford came up with a not-so-sporty version of the Pinto and slapped Mustang badges on it in 1974, that was a low point for the Mustang name. When Chrysler applied the venerable Town & Country name on perfectly functional but unglamorous minivans, it saddened many of us. But perhaps the biggest demotion for a once-proud model came when, in 1988, General Motors imported a misery-enhancing Daewoo from Korea and called it the Pontiac LeMans. The original Pontiac LeMans was a great-looking midsize car with fairly advanced (for the time) suspension design and engine options including potent V8s and a screaming overhead-cam straight-six. The Daewoo-based Pontiac LeMans was a cramped, shoddy hooptie that served only to ruin the LeMans name forever, while stealing sales from the Suzuki-based Chevrolet Sprint. Sure, using the once-respected Monterey name on the Mercurized Ford Freestar was bad, but Mercury didn't have long to live at that point. I say the downward spiral of the LeMans name was the most agonizing in automotive history. What do you think? Related Video: This content is hosted by a third party. Mercury rises around sexy Cougar pack
Sat, May 30 2015With a slightly larger body and a more luxurious interior, the Mercury Cougar doesn't carry quite as much cachet among pony car enthusiasts as the venerable Ford Mustang. But don't try to make that argument around Cougar super-fan Mike Brown. Since starting his Cougar collecting in 1988, Brown has become an absolute expert on the model, and he claims to have owned 400 of the Mercury pony cars in that time. Ten of them are in his collection today, not to mention a heap of spare parts in the garage. Check out some of the rarer members of Brown's fleet and allow him to tell you about them in this interesting interview from Electric Federal.
Automakers tussle over owners of 'orphan' makes
Thu, 10 May 2012When General Motors put down several of its brands in recent years, it also let loose thousands of brand-loyal customers who will eventually need another car.
R.L. Polk Associates estimates there are more than 18 million cars from 16 discontinued makes on the road today. Those "orphan owners" have sales-hungry competitors seeing dollar signs. GM is offering Saturn owners $1,000 cash toward a Chevy Cruze, Cadillac CTS or a GMC Acadia. Ford is giving its Mercury lease customers a chance to get out of their contracts with no early-termination penalty and offering to waive six remaining payments if they drive off in a Ford or Lincoln.
Edmunds.com research shows the efforts are paying off somewhat for GM, with 39 percent of Pontiac owners, 37 percent of Hummer owners and 31 percent of Saturn owners taking delivery of another GM-branded vehicle. But that leaves as much as 69 percent of owners going elsewhere. Ford, Honda and Toyota seem to be attracting many former GM owners.
