1950 MERCURY MONTEREY MODEL 72C
I am pleased to offer this beautiful 57000 mile 1950 Mercury Monterey Coupe. The Monterey was introduced in mid-1950 as a high end two door coupe in order to compete with GM’s hardtops. Some of the special Monterey features include leather faced seats, simulated leather headliner, wool carpets, chrome plated garnish moldings, special black steering wheel, fender skirts, dual outside mirrors, full wheel covers and gold winged hood ornament. Several color combinations were offered including Cortaro Red Metallic which this car is in. Few Monterey’s were sold. Although this Monterey is not a concours car it is close and very complete. The interior appears to be totally original, however the headliner is deteriorated especially above the drivers sun visor. The carpet is worn in spots but again it is original. The rear ashtrays are a work of art. Please see pictures. The dash and steering wheel are nearly mint. Outside you will find that it has been refinished in the original color with a perfect vinyl top. All of the stainless trim is present and for the most part in superb condition. There is no rust on this Monterey nor could I find any previous accident damage repairs. I have run a credit card style magnet along the entire bottom of both sides and could not detect any filler. The undercarriage is original. Under the hood you will find the venerable 255 cubic inch Merc flathead. This car starts easily and drives smoothly with lots of power. The trunk is beautiful and complete with wide white spare and jack assembly. There are extra fan belts and the battery hold down which does not fit the current battery. Overall this is a gorgeous Mercury and could be used and maintained to satisfy most everyone. It is also the perfect Mercury to modify into a lead sled or a “Rebel Without A Cause” – James Dean car. In my opinion the 1950 Mercury is the epitome of this generation of cars and I would far prefer it to remain in its current condition perhaps only replacing the headliner at some time. As always if you have any questions simply call or email. Thanks for looking.

These days, when you buy a new car, it's not unreasonable to expect a certain period of free maintenance to come along as well. Sometimes this is through the life of the warranty, in other cases a little less. But Ford Motor Company is going beyond those deals for at least one part of its cars. As of now, if you buy a set of Motorcraft brake pads for a Ford, Lincoln or Mercury model, you get free replacements for as long as you own the vehicle. The offer is good at Ford or Lincoln dealers and Quick Lane Tire & Auto Centers. "We will replace the pads for as long as you own the vehicle," said Elizabeth Weigandt to Autoblog. She did clarify that the Motorcraft pads are generally for models from the '90s or newer. Also, to take advantage of this program, a person must return to the same dealer each time to get the free parts. Of course, Ford isn't just handing out brake pads to anyone who walks by; there are certain stipulations. First, the components have to be worn down to less than three millimeters to be eligible, and the buyer still has to pay for the labor to install them. If the model is used as a fleet vehicle for commercial purposes like as a taxi or limousine, this offer also doesn't apply; the same thing for racecars. On the plus side, if you recently bought a set of pads from one of the participating locations, you're still in luck. The deal covers parts purchased as of July 1. "This program reflects our commitment to providing customers with an excellent ownership experience regardless of the age of their vehicle," said Frederiek Toney, President of Ford Customer Service, in the company's announcement of the offer. Scroll down to read the all the details.

The process of shutting down the Mercury is complete. Ford officially made the decision to close its mid-level brand in June of 2010. In the months that followed, Ford offered its dealers money to stop selling the cars, with production shutting down in September. The last Mercury, a Mariner, rolled off the assembly line in the beginning of October and former spokesperson Jill Wagner said her good-byes to both the car and her job. Now the last piece of the brand has come down as dealers are removing any and all Mercury signage from their lots. [Source: Detroit News]Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

It's taken four years of study, but the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has finally closed the books on its investigation into rollaway accusations surrounding 1.56-million Ford SUV models. The probe, which centered on the 2002-2005 Ford Explorer, 2002-2005 Mercury Mountaineer and 2003-2005 Lincoln Aviator, ends without the federal agency calling for a recall. According to The Detroit News, the investigation was closed due to a "low number of complaints" - NHTSA documented 180 such complaints that resulted in 14 crashes and six minor injuries, but the number of incidents have been slowing. The suspected defect rate for the trucks' automatic transmissions was found to be 4.4 per 100,000 units, and the brake-shift interlock mechanism failure rate was judged to be even lower at 3.4 per 100k.
