I am listing for sale a 1970 Cougar Eliminator that was wrecked in 1973 with only 43,739 miles.   It was one of only 469 that had the BOSS 302 motor.    Also had 3.91 rear end but not drag pac I'm afraid.   Competition Yellow with black Houndstooth  seats would have gotten some looks back in the day.   The car hit a ditch sideways that broke leaf spring and bent housing.  I got it from a salvage yard in 1995 to save it from the crusher.  The gear head vultures picked it clean over the years.  No motor, trans, driveshaft, rear end, 8000 tach, linkage, spoiler, hood scoop, seats, radiator, running cougar gas cap cover, rev limiter, correct steering box and brake pedal.  Reinstalled bent housing w/ 28 spline axles so it can be rolled.  Still has disc brakes, clutch pedal, stagger shock mounts, body buck tag and most of unique suspension parts (rear sway bar was torch cut)

The condition of the car is very poor.  Mother Nature hates these cars.   The tin termites have nested in the lower quarter, cowl, bottom of doors, hood, deck lid,  floor pans, fenders, valances, front frame rail, and battery tray.   Took a tree limb to the roof and rear deck in the 80's.  Shock towers uncracked and apart from the rust, quarter damage  and roof dents, the car is very strait.    One repaint with a Springtime Yellow coat and bad body work done on pass door handle and fender.  Had 15 inch Ford Magnum 500,s (part # D1OE).  One was bent in the wreck (replaced with painted 14" magnum) and the other three were in the mud for LONG time.   Some one attacked the dash with a hammer to get tach and cut thru cowl to pull brake pedal.  The part number on the hammer was 1DI0T!!!

State made me get at Permit to Dismantle back in 2000 on the car as proof of ownership.  Until recently you could reapply for a title with a permit, but they changed the rules in Louisiana and car can not be titled in this state.  Please check with your states rules on titles for vintage cars before bidding.  Most state have a process to title a car with a bill of sale (Texas can for sure).

I know this car is rough but I'm not asking $80,000 like restored cars.  If you are like me and like to COLLECT TOYS, this would make a good lawn ornament.  Your wife will understand.

Planning to be at the Pate Swap Meet in Dallas Texas on April 27th with car if you are at the show and want to inspect it.  Can post vender space number when assigned that morning.

Also willing to deliver COD for about .80 cents per mile.

NHTSA investigating Ford's solution to May 2014 power steering recall

Tue, Apr 7 2015

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is investigating a complaint that Ford's response to a May 2014 recall of the 2008 to 2011 Ford Escape and Mercury Mariner doesn't quite go far enough to solve a troubling power-steering problem. Roughly a year ago, Ford recalled nearly a million vehicles after it was found that a problem with the torque sensor's communication with the power steering control module could cut steering assistance for drivers. While manual steering would still be available, the problem was enough to ask drivers to report in to have the PSCM inspected, and if necessary, replaced (along with the torque sensor, or in dramatic cases, the entire steering column). That would only happen, though, if trouble codes were being thrown. If there weren't any problems, dealers were told to simply update the PSCM's software so that any issues between it and the torque sensor would simply throw a visual and audio warning – power steering would still be maintained. The petitioner claimed that following the recall work, he still experienced a problem with the torque sensor. According to NHTSA, a claim was made that Ford didn't go far enough in its solution to the problem, and that "the software update itself may in fact cause further issues with the affected vehicle's power steering, causing it to fail, and ultimately requiring replacement of the torque sensor or entire steering column." The petition was filed in early February and is now officially being looked into by NHTSA.

Question of the Day: Most degraded car name?

Fri, May 27 2016

When Ford came up with a not-so-sporty version of the Pinto and slapped Mustang badges on it in 1974, that was a low point for the Mustang name. When Chrysler applied the venerable Town & Country name on perfectly functional but unglamorous minivans, it saddened many of us. But perhaps the biggest demotion for a once-proud model came when, in 1988, General Motors imported a misery-enhancing Daewoo from Korea and called it the Pontiac LeMans. The original Pontiac LeMans was a great-looking midsize car with fairly advanced (for the time) suspension design and engine options including potent V8s and a screaming overhead-cam straight-six. The Daewoo-based Pontiac LeMans was a cramped, shoddy hooptie that served only to ruin the LeMans name forever, while stealing sales from the Suzuki-based Chevrolet Sprint. Sure, using the once-respected Monterey name on the Mercurized Ford Freestar was bad, but Mercury didn't have long to live at that point. I say the downward spiral of the LeMans name was the most agonizing in automotive history. What do you think? Related Video: This content is hosted by a third party. Ford recalls Five Hundred, Mercury Montego sedans over fuel tank woes

Mon, 18 Jul 2011

Ford has announced through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration that it is recalling nearly 3,000 examples of its Five Hundred and Mercury Montego (pictured) sedans from the 2007 model year.
The action, which affects 2,945 vehicles, is due to potentially defective welds between the filler neck and the fuel tank, a condition that could result in a fuel leak or the smell of gasoline reaching the occupants. In the worst-case scenario, a leak could cause a fire. Cars with the affected fuel tank problem could see an illuminated dashboard warning light as a result of the evaporative emissions leak being detected.
Ford will inspect and replace the fuel tank at no cost to owners (those who have already had the procedure done at-cost can apply for reimbursement), and the Dearborn automaker will begin notifying Five Hundred and Montego owners beginning August 15. Check out the official NHTSA press release after the jump for further details.
