1972 Mercury Cougar 351 Cobra Jet Factory 4sp. 3.25 Posi Rear End. Very nice car. Completely documented .... Marti Report, Original Ford Invoice, Window Sticker (reproduction from Kevin Marti) ..... Factory Silver (Pewter Metallic), Black Vinyl Top and Black Leather. 99% Rust free ..... very solid. Southern Car it's whole life.  The car was sold new in South Carolina and has been in Florida for the past 8 years.  It has always been garaged.  The car has excellent frame rails and floorboards which are all original and have never been fixed or patched. I rebuilt the transmission and put in a new clutch when I got the car 7 years ago. The rear end has been serviced and has new bearings and lube in it. I replaced the gas tank and sending unit. The rubber brake lines have been replaced. The interior is real nice and the seats have no rips in them. The headliner is original and is in good condition but has one small hole it is above the from windshield about the size of a dime.  The drivers side door panel has a very small crack in the vinyl by the door lock button. The carpet is original but still looks good (I have a brand new carpet set that goes with the car). The motor runs good and has a Holley Carb on it now but I have the original Ford 4310 carb that the car came with. The exhaust is all new with Hooker Headers which have been Jet Hot coated.  Besides the Headers the rest of the exhaust is all original and the tail pipes exit just like they did from the factory.  I have the original exhaust manifolds that go with the car. The car sounds excellent with a very performance sounding exhaust note. There are a few very minor dents and scratches in the car from 42 years of use but nothing major. The A/C is all complete and hooked up but it is still an R12 system and either needs R12 put back in it or it needs to be converted to R134. The Radio is a factory AM FM stereo and it works perfect.  This car has no cut wires behind the dash and has never had any type of aftermarket radio or electronics installed in it.  The dash pad is perfect and has no cracks in it. The steering wheel is the 'rim blow' type of steering wheel which has a few cracks in it but is in over-all good condition for its age. The tach works. All of the window roll up and down like they should. The body 'buck' tag is still on the core support (see picture). I am the third owner and I've had the car for 7 years.  This car is just a nice running and driving original car that can be driven now just the way that it is.  Every time I take this car to a car show or a cruise it always gets lots of attention because most people don't know that Mercury put manual transmissions in Cougar's.  Also, for the weight of the car the 351CJ motor really makes this car jump.  The 351CJ engine was the most powerful engine that you could get in a 1972 Cougar.  It is very excelerating to drive and always gets lots of 'thumbs up'.  If you want something different than everyone else and something that has lots of class and performance you should check this car out.  In the 7 years I've owned the car I've never seen another '72 4sp. 351CJ Cougar like this one.  A very rare and interesting car!!!  For more info - Curtis 813-seven 3 two -six 0 six 8. I have a lot more pictures on my Photobucket page ..... Ebay won't let me post the link here to my Photobucket page .... if anyone wants to see those pictures email me and I can send you the link.

Auto Show Notebook: Legendary Continental name inspired Lincoln's designers

Thu, Apr 2 2015

What's in a name? A lot for the Continental concept, and it gave Lincoln designers a sense of purpose as they styled the brand's upcoming flagship sedan. "The moment that we told them, it was amazing," Lincoln president Kumar Galhotra said. "They totally got it." "It" is cutting-edge technology wrapped in stately, large-sedan design. It's a nod to Lincoln's storied past, but a signpost for where the brand is heading. Though the Continental name dates to the late 1930s, Lincoln designers avoided making the concept overtly retro. "You can't let it pull yourself back too far in history, but you've got to design a car that lives up to the name," Galhotra said. Speaking to Autoblog on the floor of the New York Auto Show where the Continental formally debuted Wednesday, the Lincoln president reiterated that the car is on track to launch in 2016. It will compete against the Audi A6, Lexus GS, BMW 5 Series and other large luxury sedans. After its debut, the concept in New York will fly to China – another critical market for Lincoln – for display there. It will be replaced in New York by a prototype without an interior. The Continental is the latest high profile play by Lincoln to raise its image with consumers, who have either ignored or forgotten about it amid steep competition in the luxury sector from German and Japanese brands and a potentially resilient Cadillac. Lincoln sales are essentially flat compared with 2014 through the first quarter of this year, with total volume of 21,478 units. The middling start to 2015 comes on the heels of nearly 16-percent sales growth last year spurred by the launch of the MKC and the prominent signing of Matthew McConaughey to star in Lincoln advertisements. Other News, Notes & Quotes Speaking of names, Chevrolet did its homework before deciding to proceed with "Malibu" for its new generation of midsize cars. "We went out and researched it," said Alan Batey, president of General Motors North America. "People actually like the name 'Malibu,'" he said. Admittedly, the current Malibu has struggled in the marketplace against entrenched competitors, Batey said, but he's optimistic its awareness and historical value are assets to the dramatically redesigned sedan."The name's strong," he said. Meanwhile, in other Chevy news, the brand kicked off a new marketing campaign, "Real People, Not Actors" Wednesday. It will show consumers interacting with Chevys and their spontaneous reactions to the vehicles.

eBay Find of the Day: Craterface's '49 Mercury convertible from Grease

Wed, 29 Jan 2014

Here is your chance to own your very own piece of greased lightning. Well, not the Greased Lighting, it's actually the black, flamed 1949 Mercury convertible that races against John Travolta in the classic 1978 movie Grease, and it's for auction on eBay Motors.
While it appeared in the film's exciting drag race in a Los Angeles storm drain, the hot rod was reportedly lost until last year, when the seller found it as a shell. He verified that it was the actual car with original builder, Eddie Paul, and sent the car for a complete restoration.
The auction includes original parts like the exhaust tips used in the movie and bent bumper from when it hit Travolta's car in the scene. The restorer recreated the scorpion stickers on the doors, razor hubcaps and license plate. He also installed a 1949 Mercury 255-cubic-inch (4.2-liter), flathead V8 and three-speed manual transmission with overdrive.

NHTSA advances investigation of Ford Crown Victoria headlights

Sat, Aug 15 2015

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is opening a preliminary evaluation into reports of suddenly failing headlights on 517,945 examples of the 2003-2005 Ford Crown Victoria and Mercury Grand Marquis. The government started looking into this problem in April when the North Carolina Consumers Council filed a defect petition with the agency. Now, the inquiry has moved to the next step. According to NHTSA's documentation (as a PDF), it examined its own database and worked with Ford to come up with a total of 3,609 complaints of the front lighting control module suddenly failing. When this happens, drivers lose the low-beam headlights, but the high-beams can be used by holding the stalk. Sometimes turning the switch off and on fixes the issue. Additionally, there are 15 allegations of crashes, and one reported shoulder injury. NHTSA's preliminary evaluations "evaluate the scope, frequency, and consequence of the alleged defect" and don't necessarily lead to a recall. NHTSA looked into this problem once before in 2008 and 2009 and decided that a recall wasn't necessary. Ford also extended the warranty on the front lighting control module for these vehicles. INVESTIGATION Subject : Loss of headlights Date Investigation Opened: AUG 10, 2015 Date Investigation Closed: Open NHTSA Action Number: PE15028 Component(s): EXTERIOR LIGHTING All Products Associated with this Investigation Vehicle Make Model Model Year(s) FORD CROWN VICTORIA 2003-2005 MERCURY GRAND MARQUIS 2003-2005 Details Manufacturer: Ford Motor Company SUMMARY: After receiving a defect petition (DP15002) concerning the loss of headlights and other exterior lighting in model year (MY) 2003-2005 Ford Crown Victoria and Mercury Grand Marquis vehicles, the Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) analyzed Vehicle Owner Questionnaire (VOQ) complaints received from consumers and identified a total of 605 reports (for all submission dates) alleging headlight failure. The complaints indicate failures of both low beam headlights typically while driving, a defect condition that was evaluated under a prior ODI investigation (PE08066). Most consumer VOQs indicate that the headlights failed suddenly and without warning leaving the driver with no forward lighting, however some report the headlights flickered or dimmed prior to turning off. In some cases drivers were able to turn the headlights back on after a period of time while others reported the headlights would not come back on at all.
