1972 Mercury cougar for sale. This is a true 94xxx mile all original survivor! I got the car from an older gentlemen (who only put about 200 miles on the car) who got it from the estate of the original owner. You never find them like this anymore! Nothing has been changed or altered. Original paint, interior and drivetrain!

Car is Bright Green Gold Metallic with 3/4 White Vinyl Top (very nice condition) (top has very light dirt streaks in it. I haven't tried cleaning it, as its still to cold here)and Medium Green Leather bucket seats.

There were 53,702 Cougars built in 1972. (Cougar, Cougar Conv., Cougar XR7 and XR7 Conv.) Out of all 1972 cougars built, only 93 were painted Bright Green Gold Metallic. Of these only 41 were XR7's. And of those, only 23 had the Green Leather interior!

I have never found any rust on this car anywhere (car had always been in Texas until I got it). Never been in an accident. There are a couple of small dings and scratches in the car, but after all, its 42 years old! I just had the exterior professionally rubbed out and buffed, and WOW! I never thought original paint could look so good! The car actually looks wet!

You can restore a car 100 times, but they are only original once! This car would clean house in a survivor class at a car show!

Options include and verified on the Marti report are: White 3/4 Vinyl top, FMX Transmission, Convenience Group, Power steering, Power front disc brakes, Air Conditioning (been converted to R-134 and blows ice cold), AM Radio, Console (clock doesn't work) and Tinted glass.

I wouldn't be afraid to drive this car across country. It rides and drives like a dream. Tires are new. Choke needs adjusted.(doesn't like this cold weather). Runs great after warmed up.

No warranties implied. $500 deposit required within 24 hours. Balance due in 7 days.

If your interested in looking at the car or want someone else too, no problem, I actually encourage it. This car has nothing to hide. I have a 100% feedback rating, and have sold cars on here in the past.

Any questions? Call Ron @ 734 735 2260.  Thanks for looking!

NHTSA investigating Ford's solution to May 2014 power steering recall

Tue, Apr 7 2015

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is investigating a complaint that Ford's response to a May 2014 recall of the 2008 to 2011 Ford Escape and Mercury Mariner doesn't quite go far enough to solve a troubling power-steering problem. Roughly a year ago, Ford recalled nearly a million vehicles after it was found that a problem with the torque sensor's communication with the power steering control module could cut steering assistance for drivers. While manual steering would still be available, the problem was enough to ask drivers to report in to have the PSCM inspected, and if necessary, replaced (along with the torque sensor, or in dramatic cases, the entire steering column). That would only happen, though, if trouble codes were being thrown. If there weren't any problems, dealers were told to simply update the PSCM's software so that any issues between it and the torque sensor would simply throw a visual and audio warning – power steering would still be maintained. The petitioner claimed that following the recall work, he still experienced a problem with the torque sensor. According to NHTSA, a claim was made that Ford didn't go far enough in its solution to the problem, and that "the software update itself may in fact cause further issues with the affected vehicle's power steering, causing it to fail, and ultimately requiring replacement of the torque sensor or entire steering column." The petition was filed in early February and is now officially being looked into by NHTSA.

NHTSA probing 2000-2003 Ford Taurus and Mercury Sable models over throttle issue

Mon, 29 Oct 2012

A potential issue with the speed control cable collar has got the 2003-20003 Ford Taurus and Mercury Sable under the spotlight of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. If the collar breaks it can cause the throttle to be stuck open.
The issue is limited to vehicles with the 3.0-liter V6 Duratec. There are just 50 complaints so far out of 310,000 cars, but the NHTSA has begun an investigation into whether a recall should be issued.

Automakers tussle over owners of 'orphan' makes

Thu, 10 May 2012

When General Motors put down several of its brands in recent years, it also let loose thousands of brand-loyal customers who will eventually need another car.
R.L. Polk Associates estimates there are more than 18 million cars from 16 discontinued makes on the road today. Those "orphan owners" have sales-hungry competitors seeing dollar signs. GM is offering Saturn owners $1,000 cash toward a Chevy Cruze, Cadillac CTS or a GMC Acadia. Ford is giving its Mercury lease customers a chance to get out of their contracts with no early-termination penalty and offering to waive six remaining payments if they drive off in a Ford or Lincoln.
Edmunds.com research shows the efforts are paying off somewhat for GM, with 39 percent of Pontiac owners, 37 percent of Hummer owners and 31 percent of Saturn owners taking delivery of another GM-branded vehicle. But that leaves as much as 69 percent of owners going elsewhere. Ford, Honda and Toyota seem to be attracting many former GM owners.
