1971 Mercury Cougar Convertable 351 Cleavland 4 Barral Nice Car!!! on 2040-cars
United States
sweet! Where do I start with this super cool car!! First off before reading any farther please take a minute out of your time to read my feedback!! In doing so you will see that I am and honest guy and do care!! I take my feedback serious. That being understood what we have is a pretty nice 1971 Mercury Cougar convertible. I have a clear title in my name free of any leans for the car. This car from what I can tell started life in New York. I have the original owners manual with the first owners name in it and also have the mercury brochure for 1971 that goes with the car! The person that I bought the car from owned it for the last seven years and kept it in a garage and drove it on sunny days. He spent a bit of time and money and had the following done to the car. The original engine which was a 351 cleavland 2 barrel was using some oil but still running and he was going to have it rebuilt but stumbled across a factory 351 cleavland 4-barral engine that was at the machine shop already rebuilt with a small cam as well. That engine was installed professionally along with the original fmx transmission that he had rebuilt at the same time. A new carb and electronic ignition was also done at the same time along with a new heater core and radiator! Very very nice. Everything looks in place with the hood up and nothing out of the norm, It also received full dual exhaust with no headers. Sounds very very nice and no exhaust leaks! He also installed new brakes all the way around with the proportioning valve and a new master cylinder as well. So when I got the car the drivetrain was pretty darn nice and has approximately 5,000 miles on it. This car must have 3.23 gears or so because you can squeal the tires or cruise all day at 75 mph down the freeway. Nice. I drive this car everywhere! I have done 5 hour roadtrips one way with no problems!! I just stuck a boatload of money in this car to finish it off!! a few of the things that were just recently done are as follows. Brand new Magnum 500's with BFG radial tires. All new door and trunk weatherstripping. Rechromed front and rear bumpers.New wheel well molding. Some new emblems. Convertible parade boot. Reproduction Mercury Cougar GT hoodscoop. New Pioneer CD player with smart phone I pad hookup along with four pioneer speakers. And the list goes on! Just had new base coat clear coat paint job. Very NICE! Done at Anderson Customs of Menahga Minnesota. Feel free to give Mike the owner a call at 218-564-5164. Nothing to hide on this one! This car was on the hoist and Mike was impressed! Solid Rockers and torque boxes along with the rest of the car! This car is a keeper!!!! Car was originally a dark green and had one repaint to resale RED. YUCK!! I went with 1999 Ford jalenpenyo green pearl Mett effect. There was app a quart of paint left over and you may have this if you wish. ALL parts were removed in order to do a nice job including the doors and entire front clip and anything bolted on! The top itself is in fair condition with a few small tears, however is fuctional and gets the job done but of course would look better black in my opinion!! The powertop works as it should. I drive this car all over the place without hesitation!! A few things what works for sure!! The blinkers, brake lights, headlights both high and low, interior cluster lights, speedometer, windshield wipes etc.... A few items do not work that I know of including the gas gauge, the factory tach, the factory temp gauge and oil light. However there is a aftermarket oil pressure gauge and temp gauge. This car pretty much runs 185 degrees all the time. It is equipped with factory front disc brakes and stops well. It drives down the road rather nice for a 43 year od car. Trailer queen no. But one heck of a head turning driver. The trunk has also been done properly to include. Painting. Trunk mat. Factory jack mounted correctly along with spare tire. Jack instruction decal. I bought the correct rim blow steering wheel and had a new switch installed. At the moment no horn for some reason could be a fuse as the wheel has a new $100 switch professionaly installed by the guys who helped with this car. WEST COAST COUGARS. Great people with decent prices!! I would entertain a Mopar prefer B body up or down trade for this car. My heart I'm a Mopar guy this car was done I believe in my dads memory. And hey I do really like it!! The doors open and close like they should and all body gaps are what I consider very nice! Please do not hesitate to have this car preinspected if you wish. Not a problem! Also DO NOT hesitate to call me directly with intelligent questions. But please if you are not serious do not waste either of our time! I am pretty sure for the money you can not build a car this decent! I am not one of those idiots who do not have a buy it now hoping to get rich or have a ridiculous buy it now price. Most of my auctions end with the buy it now feature. I price my stuff below fair market value and in this economy that's what sells!! This car is for sale locally. I reserve the right to cancel or end this auction at any time. THIS IS A NO RESERVE AUCTION!! Bid to win and if you do bid please have your funds . Or Fly in and drive home! I would not hesitate to drive anywhere! And yes the heater works. The interior is not perfect however it is very presentable. I would say the seats and carpet were done some time ago along with the dash pad. The top also has the rear glass window. The engine compartment looks very presentable as well and everything looks done correctly and not out of place. If your shipper will work with you you certainly can have the numbers matching 351. It of course does need a rebuild and is somewhat torn apart. Windsheild has no cracks is not hazy and has one bullseye that appears to have been professionally repaired. All windows crank up and down as they should. KEEP IN MIND THIS CAR ATTRACTS ATTENTION!!! You will not hide from your wife while in this car and four ladies just stopped me at the gas station and asked if they could get in it and have me take a photo. And NO I'm not kidding! The color green although not original looks period correct and POPS!! Door locks and trunk lock work with keys as they should!! Probably one of the best deals on Ebay and priced lower then it should be! Again up or down on a Mopar B body possible. Or the right A body. Oh yes the side marker lights also work. Judging from the underneath of the car it was probably garaged most of its life I would guess. I am 50 years old and fairly fussy, you will like this car and can think of it as and investment that you can enjoy and per say is like money in the bank just better!! More photos and description soon! Good luck and don't hesitate or this beauty will go to someone else............PS. also note the license plate light also works! Also note I have left this car idling for twenty minutes in my driveway and never seen a drop of anything under it!. You can reach me at 218-252-4828. This Car just had $8000 or so put into it! If you are unsure or have never bought a car on eBay again take a look at my feedback. Particularly my seller feedback comments. I have even sold to France! In my opinion this car is the best value for the money and that's why my stuff sells! Again do not hesitate to call. This really is a nice car for the money. PLEASE NOTE: The price has been reduced!! I bought a Dodge Charger so this car is priced to go!! I also just had and appraisal done which is in one of the photos. This appraisal came back at $16,100.00!!! So insuring this for fair market value is easy! It is currently insured for the stated $16,100 appraisal. ALSO note the rim blow horn is operational it was just a burnt out fuse! Also the interior lights are working as well. For the money this is a lot of bang for the buck. This car looks just as good in person as it does in the photos!!!! The second the buy it now is hit, this car will be parked and left in my garage until pickup. Problems with a shipper?? It may be possible for me to deliver the car anywhere in the USA after paid for in full including the shipping fee of $1.45 a loaded mile. You should be able to get a shipper cheaper then this I am just throwing this out there if needed. I would prefer you handle your own shipping! This car is value priced and SOLID! You could keep this car the rest of your life if so desired. If I wasn't a Dodge guy rest assured this car would not be leaving!! POSSIBLE TRADE FOR ODDGE RAM DAYTONA OR RUMBLEBEE.

Petrolicious shows Mercedes 280SL as architecture in motion
Wed, Jun 17 2015While still an absolute beauty today, the design of the pagoda-roof W113 Mercedes-Benz SL was revolutionary when it debuted. Moving away from the soft curves of the previous SL models, the all-new generation brought an upright, angular shape that was as much architectural as automotive. In the latest video from Petrolicious, owner and architect Daniel Monti expounds on the inspiration that he gets from his 1969 280SL's fantastic styling. The roof is the most famous design feature of this generation of SL. Look at the top from the front or back, and you can see a gentle, downward arc that evokes the look of a pagoda. That one styling element is also a fabulous counterpoint to a vehicle that is largely more angular than curvaceous. Petrolicious wonderfully illustrates how some of the SL's form-follows-function design aesthetic can be found in the architect's work in this video's heaping helping of mid-century modern goodness.
What do you do with a fake Bugatti Veyron for $60k?
Tue, Mar 29 2016Replica cars are a challenging labor of love because builders spend countless hours recreating a vehicle that people immediately compare to the real thing. Perhaps, the person behind this Mercury Cougar-based Bugatti Veyron should look for another way to pass that time. The coupe is currently for sale on eBay Motors for $59,900. The builder deserves some credit because the fiberglass body looks acceptable in the photos from farther away. The car might even fool a few people from a distance. However, the devil is in the details, and the closer you look, the worse this gets. The side intakes are especially rough. The red interior is atrocious. It's essentially the Cougar's cabin but in an eye-searing shade accented with lots of fake carbon fiber. The seller's eBay Motors ad really tries to market the look, though. "You slide in to [sic] this extremely comfortable leather interior and you feel like your bank account just quadrupled in size," the listing says. Don't expect to win any top speed titles in this Veyron replica, either. Rather than a mid-mounted quad-turbo W16, a 3.0-liter V6 from a Mercury Sable sits at the front. Thanks to an upgraded intake and exhaust, the seller claims, "It doesn't sound like your grandmas [sic] Sable." We wish the seller the best of luck, but the asking price of nearly $60,000 is probably too optimistic. We would still think twice about buying it even after taking a zero off that figure, but at least this thing is fun to look at. Related Video:
Junkyard Gem: 1996 Nissan Quest XE with 338,549 miles
Sun, Jul 9 2023When I hit the junkyard, I always look for vehicles with impressive final figures showing on their odometers. I find so many Hondas and Toyotas with better than 300,000 miles that I don't consider them especially noteworthy (the exception being super-low-spec cheap models, such as a Tercel or Civic VX), and it goes without saying that the bar is quite high for Mercedes-Benzes as well. It has been surprisingly difficult to find discarded Nissans that made it past the 300k mark; today's Junkyard Gem is just the fourth I've documented. The highest-mile junked Nissan I'd found prior to today's minivan is a 1994 Maxima with 364,238 miles, followed by a 1987 Maxima with 341,176 miles and a 1986 200SX with 309,222 miles. Keep in mind that Nissan didn't go to six-digit odometers on most of its US-market cars until the early 1980s, and then went to tough-to-read-in-the-junkyard electronic odometers in the early 2000s; this means the pool of potential high-mile Nissans is limited to about the 1983-2000 range of model years. Ford has just as much right to claim credit to this van's impressive mile total as does Nissan, since the Quest was a collaboration between Ford and Nissan that also produced the Mercury Villager; this van was built by Ford at the Ohio Assembly plant. The Quest/Villager platform was derived from the Maxima's, and the engine is pure Nissan: a 3.0-liter VG30 V6 rated at 151 horsepower. The only transmission available in the first-generation (1993-1999) Quest/Villager was a four-speed automatic. This one appears to have been sold new at Landrum Nissan in Pueblo. The rear glass has been painted flat black, possibly to keep prying eyes from seeing valuable cargo. The rear seats are long gone, so this van probably hauled cargo for much of its long life. The front interior seems to be in good shape. Why is this van here? There's body damage on the left rear and right front, suggesting a crash that may have bent the suspension past the worth-fixing threshold. Perhaps the crinkled metal just made this van too unsightly, or maybe some powertrain problem was the culprit. This content is hosted by a third party.
