1969 Mercury Cougar
351-2v, A/C car with 91K original miles! 99% Rust Free!

This 1969 Mercury cougar is an excellent driver with its 91k original miles. Originally bought here in Albuquerque where it has been its entire life.  It is 99 % rust free with the floors, trunk in perfect condition. Runs down the road perfectly with no issues or noises. This is NOT a show car but rather a very nice driver that could use some interior work and minor detailing. This is still a head turner at 10 feet.

DETAILS:
Rust/body: (please see all pics) lower driver door size of fifty cent piece, older rust repair by rear window passenger side starting to bubble through and lower quarter has so-so bodywork. Dents and dings here and         there nothing large. Missing center grill section. Missing door tag for some reason. Vin plate is there. Doors are staring to sag and driver door is getting hard to close.

Paint: Was repainted sometime in the past. Definitely a ten footer not a high show quality job but also not an Earl Shibe.

Interior: Interior is 100% original. The back seat is completely tore up on the top and the dash is badly cracked, both due to New Mexico sun. Door panels, front seats, Head liner, sun visors, handles, knobs, AM             working radio, are all present and in good shape. Nothing is missing.

Engine: 351w 2v that runs amazing and starts instantly. NO SMOKE. Complete from air cleaner to oil pan including the A/C unit.

A/C: complete but does not work, nothing missing.

Glass: All original FoMoCo except the front windshield. all in good shape with no cracks or chips.

Electrical: everything works as it should, including the tri-sequential taillights. head lights work great and go up and down.

Guages: all gauges work as they should. Gas, temp, speedo and milage all work correctly.

Wheels and tires: both are new with less then 200 miles on the set. "stock" 15" magnums with cougar caps. (not 14").

Title: clean free NM title in my name.

As mentioned before this is an amazing, stock running vehicle, and I would have no issues with saying that someone could fly here and drive it home with no issues.

Translogic drives wood-burning Mercury Beaver XR-7

Sun, 31 Jul 2011

You read the title right, we're talking about the Mercury Beaver XR-7. No, Mercury never officially built a car called the beaver. This is the brainchild of upstate New Yorker Chip Beam, who owns and operates Beaver Energy, LLC. It runs on gases created by wood pellets fermented in a 2,400-degree furnace and fed to a supercharged Ford 4.6-liter V8.
By all accounts, it gets down the road just fine, and has pretty close to full power. The best part is, you can grow the fuel yourself and avoid patronizing big oil, if that's your thing. The only drawback that we can see to the Mercury Beaver XR-7 is the PVC pipe jungle occupying the space that would be the trunk under normal circumstances.
Still, if you're willing to smell like a mountain man and look like a bad Back to the Future knockoff, this ride is right up your alley. Click past the jump to see Translogic's take on this modified Merc.

Ford Recalling 70k Escape and Mariner Hybrids for cooling issue

Fri, 12 Sep 2014

Ford is recalling about 70,209 examples of the 2005-2008 Ford Escape Hybrid and the 2006-2008 Mercury Mariner Hybrid because the cooling pumps for their hybrid systems could fail.
According to the company's defect notice, it's possible for the original "Motor Electronics Coolant (MEC) Pump" to wear out and fail, which would could cause the hybrid system to overheat. If this happens, the vehicle goes into a safety mode that takes away most or all of its power. However, braking and steering still operate normally. After cooling down, the affected models restart normally. The company says that it's not aware of any accidents or injuries related to this problem.
Ford will begin repairing the vehicles in late October, and dealers will be installing improved, brushless pumps on the affected models at no charge to owners. If drivers had their pumps fail before this recall, they can contact Ford for a possible reimbursement. Scroll down to read the recall announcement from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration or download the full defect notice as a PDF, here.

Ford finally issues recall for 230K minivans over rust problems

Sun, 10 Mar 2013

The rust issue in the rear wheel wells of 2004-2007 Ford Freestar and Mercury Monterey minivans has finally led to a recall. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration began an investigation into the matter in 2011, said investigation being upgraded to an engineering analysis a year later while NHTSA tried to figure out how many model years should be included in the assessment.
Ford has decided to recall all of the 230,000 minivans potentially affected, namely those sold in salt-belt states and countries like Canada. The excess rust in the rear wheel wells was also able to prevent the third-row seats from locking to the floor of the minivan. To repair the problem, owners can take their minivans to dealers, and the dealers will place new panels in the wheel wells, replace the third-row seat mounting brackets and relocate the latches to an area away from any corrosion.
Ford says it will begin notifying owners during the last week of March.
