Rare 1969 Mercury Cougar Eliminator.  The car has factory air and a dealer installed vinyl top.  Original factory paint!  Own a true gem.  There are less than 300 of these original cars still remaining today! Marti Auto Report will be uploaded shortly!

This car is in great condition for the year and mileage.  There is some obvious wear and tear on a car this old.  Body is in good shape and the engine still runs strong.  There are some dents on the drivers side rear quarter panel and some rust on the bottom of the drivers door.  The transmission leaks fluid on occasion and needs to eventually be rebuilt. The clock on the dash functions sometimes, and the tack for the RPM has not been functional for years.  I have not been able to figure out why the reverse lights don't illuminate when backing.  There are a few tears in the rear headliner as pictured.  Timing on this car does need to be set again as the car becomes too hot on days about 85 degrees.

It has a new Duralast Gold series battery this year.  I have not been able to put much time into the car and would like to see it go somewhere where it will be enjoyed.  Included are two sets of rims, the original style, and an American Racing set.  The original air cleaner has been lost due to moves over the past several years.  An electric holley fuel pump has replaced the mechanical one in 2006.  New plugs were installed in 2006 as well.  The car has been in the family since 1979.  It has a new set of tires on the original rims from about 2006 with only about 1,000 miles on them.  Shocks and fuel pump were replaced in 2006 as well.  The car does need some work done to it and is not in perfect condition, but will surely bring pleasure to anyone who purchases it.  Unfortunately I do not have the time I wish I had to put into this car and I know anyone who knows what it is will be glad to have one.

NHTSA investigating 725k Ford, Mercury vehicles for stalling issue

Mon, 25 Feb 2013

Owners of Ford Escape, Mercury Mariner, Ford Fusion and Mercury Milan models, listen up. According to a report on Automotive News, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has opened an investigation into these four vehicles totaling an estimated 725,000 units. The investigation appears to center around a malfunctioning throttle body on non-hybrid models of the 2005-2012 Escape and 2011-2012 Fusion. With Mercury dying off after the 2011 model year, this probe will also apply to the 2005 through 2011 Mariner and the 2011 Milan. There has been some discussion around the Escape stalling issue for some time now, but this investigation appears to be larger in scope than before.
Though not a recall yet, NHTSA's Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) has received 123 complaints of stalling or surging vehicles, while Ford itself has logged 1,472 complaints. The investigation report, which is posted below, seems to indicate that a faulty circuit board for the throttle body could cause the vehicle to go into limp mode, which, according to NHTSA, could cause complaints of both stalling and surging.

Has the Mercury Marauder gotten better with age?

Fri, Oct 23 2015

In the early 2000s Mercury desperately wanted to develop some edge for its brand – seemingly stuck between a quasi-premium, quasi-performance space in the Ford Universe. The Marauder is perhaps the most famous of the vehicles that resulted from those efforts, and is rapidly approaching Modern Classic status, today. Effectively a murdered out Grand Marquis with some updated trim pieces – what are company parts bins for, if not raiding? – the Marauder looked convincingly like a bad guy car. The 4.6-liter V8 under its hood that had been breathed on by engineers for a little more power, kicking out 302 horsepower and 318 pound-feet of torque from the factory. Not exactly Ferrari-baiting numbers, but it'd give your local cop's car a run for its money. Being a wild child of the last decade, of course our friends at MotorWeek had it on the program. What better way to test your mean-mugging muscle sedan than with John Davis' tanned and steady hands?

NHTSA closes rollaway investigation into 1.56M Ford SUVs

Mon, 11 Mar 2013

It's taken four years of study, but the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has finally closed the books on its investigation into rollaway accusations surrounding 1.56-million Ford SUV models.
The probe, which centered on the 2002-2005 Ford Explorer, 2002-2005 Mercury Mountaineer and 2003-2005 Lincoln Aviator, ends without the federal agency calling for a recall. According to The Detroit News, the investigation was closed due to a "low number of complaints" - NHTSA documented 180 such complaints that resulted in 14 crashes and six minor injuries, but the number of incidents have been slowing. The suspected defect rate for the trucks' automatic transmissions was found to be 4.4 per 100,000 units, and the brake-shift interlock mechanism failure rate was judged to be even lower at 3.4 per 100k.
