1969 MERCURY COUGAR ELIMINATOR. BEFORE I GIVE THE DETAILS THIS IS NOT A NUMBERS MATCHING CAR NOR DID THIS CAR COME FROM THE FACTORY WITH THIS ENGINE. IT ORGINIALLY CAME WITH A 351 AND FMX TRANSMISSION. NOW FOR THE DETAILS, HAS FRESHLY REBUILT 428 ENGINE FROM A LOCAL MACHINE SHOP WITH ANEW ELEBROCK CARB, HOOKER HEADERS, EARLY 1970'S ALUMUNIUM ELEBROCK STREET PERFORMER 890 MANIFOLD. NEW STARTER,REGULATOR, BATTERY, REBUILT RADIATOR. FROM THE EARLY 1970'S A OVAL COUGAR AIR CLEANER ( NOT A REPRO ). AUTO C-6 TRANSMISSION, NEW DRIVELINE, NEW FRONT COIL SPRINGS, NEW FRONT DISC ROTORS AND BEARINGS. WHEELS ARE FROM THE LATE 1960'S EARLY 1970'S BUT ARE NOT ORGINIAL TO CAR. HAS BIAS PLY TIRES. RECHROMED FRONT AND REAR BUMPERS, TAILIGHT HOUSINGS AND ALL TRIM EXCEPT FOR FRONT AND BACK WINDOW TRIM. WINDOWS ARE ORGINIAL WITH SOME SCRATCHES, BUT NOT BAD. NEW DOOR HANDLES AND ROCKER TRIM. NEW BRAKE LINES AND FUEL LINES, NEW FUEL TANK. INTERIOR HAS NEW UPHOLSTERED FRONT SEATS, REAR SEATS, DOOR PANELS AND QUARTER PANELS WERE DYED BLACK. WAS ORGINIALLY BLUE. NEW CARPET PACKAGE TRAY AND SAIL PANELS. ALL GAUGES WORK. NEW EXHAUST FROM ENGINE BACK. THE PAINT IS IN GREAT CONDITION WITH A FEW CHIPS AND SCRATCHES. I HAVE A KEVIN MARTI REPORT AND BUILD SHEET ALSO. YOU MAY NOTICE THAT IT DOSEN'T HAVE A CLOCK ON THE PASSENGER SIDE. THAT PANEL HAD SURFACE RUST SO BAD THAT I COULDN'T SAVE SO I REPLACED WITH A STANDARD PANEL AND HAD IT COVERED. AND YOU MAY ASK ABOUT THE SIDE STRIPES, I MADE IT TO MY LIKEING AND DID NOT PUT THE STRIPES DOWN THE SIDE AND PUT THE ELIMINATOR AND 428 ON THE FENDERS. HISTORY OF THE CAR GOES LIKE THIS: BOUGHT CAR ON EBAY, TAKING THE OWNERS WORD FOR IT AS A RUST FREE CAR. WHEN IT ARRIVED I INSPECTED IT THE FLOORPAN WAS COMPLETELY GONE, ALL ENGINE APRONS RUSTED, FRONT PASSINGER DOOR RUSTED ON BOTTOM, FRONT FENDERS NEEDED REPAIR AND REAR QUARTERS NEEDED ATTENTION. HAD A PROFESSIONAL BODY SHOP REPLACE AND FIX ALL THE RUST. I HAD A 1 PEICE FLOORPAN INSTALLED, FOUND 2 1969 FRONT FENDERS TO USE AND FIXED THE REAR QUARTERS, LOCATED A 1969 PASS.DOOR AND INSTALLED, REPLACED ALL ENGINE APRONS. AS ALOT OF YOU KNOW WHEN RESTORING THESE KINDS OF CARS YOU CAN QUICKLY GET MORE MONEY INTO IT THAN IT IS WORTH. SO, TO STOP THE BLEEDING THERE ARE STILL A FEW THINGS THAT THE NEW OWNER WILL NEED TO ADDRESS: THE DRIVER DOOR MIRROR WILL NEED TO BE REPLACED BECAUSE THE CABLES ARE BROKEN THE RIM STYLE STEERING WHEEL HORN WILL NEED TO BE FIXED THE BACKUP LIGHTS AREN'T WORKING AND THE RADIO IS THERE BUT DOESN'T WORK. I HAVE PUT ON A FAIR RESERVE, BUT I'M WILLING TO TAKE A 1967/8 MUSTANG FASTBACK ON TRADE. PLEASE NO RUST BUCKETS. AS WITH MOST SALES AS IS WHERE IS. IF YOU WANT ANY PICTURES OF A CERTAIN SPOT OR SIDE LET ME KNOW AND I'LL TRY TO GET THEM TO YOU. THANKS |

This Mercury Cyclone is an American Muscle Car in Norway
Tue, Oct 27 2015The picturesque Norwegian countryside certainly doesn't seem like the natural stomping grounds for a 1969 Mercury Cyclone, but owner Alexander Brevik makes the odd combo look like an ideal match. Even with the beautiful surroundings, Brevik sees no need to enjoy the scenery; he'd much rather just be driving this vintage muscle car. Take a ride with him in the latest clip from Petrolicious. Like many of us, Brevik's automotive obsession started at childhood, and today he has amassed a multitude of projects to wrench on. While he loves working on all of these cars, we all need a break sometimes, and that's what the Cyclone is for. Even when the rest of his collection isn't running, this orange beauty is always ready to go. Brevik may not pay much attention to the landscape, but Petrolicious makes the muscle car look fantastic in the Norwegian woods nonetheless. With its rumbling V8 engine and three-speed manual, this Cyclone turns out to be a perfect cruising companion in the Land of the Midnight Sun. And if you just can't get enough of classic muscle cars and the people who love them, check out our video coverage of the 2015 Woodward Dream Cruise in Detroit down below. Related Video:
Ford recalling 370,000 Crown Vic, Grand Marquis and Town Car models
Fri, 30 Aug 2013The Detroit News is reporting that Ford will recall some 370,000 Crown Victoria (pictured), Mercury Grand Marquis and Lincoln Town Car vehicles from model years 2005 through 2011, for an issue regarding the lower intermediate steering shaft. 355,000 of the vehicles in question were sold in the US, with the other 15,000 sold in Canada.
The report indicates that corrosion of the lower intermediate steering shaft could cause a "loss of steering," presumably because of a partial or complete failure of the part. The report points out the dealers will inspect and replace the offending steering component for recalled cars, and may also secure a lower steering column bearing and replace the upper intermediate steering shaft as needed. The company is unaware of any reports of the faulty part causing any accidents or injuries.
Ford helpfully lists states in which corrosion is more likely to have taken place, mostly in the Snow Belt, as you might guess. Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, Virginia, Wisconsin, West Virginia, and the District of Columbia are listed.
Junkyard Gem: 1970 Mercury Cougar
Tue, Oct 10 2017The plot of the Mercury Cougar story took a lot of strange twists and turns during its 35 or so years, from ponycar to immense luxobarge to family sedan to station wagon to Integra competitor. Examples of the first Cougar generation are nearly extinct in American wrecking yards, so I was excited to spot this one in Denver. Lest you shed any tears over this car going to the crusher, know that it was suffering from the ravenous teeth of the Rust Monster long before it got here. The 1967-1970 Cougar was based on the Mustang platform of the same era, and so it was a sleeker and quicker cat than its successors. Still, the longer wheelbase, extra equipment and all the cool-looking bodywork added some heft; the 1970 Mustang hardtop with V8 scaled in at 2,923 pounds, while the 1970 Cougar weighed 3,307 pounds. The current Ford Focus would fit just between those two weights. There was also a mid-cycle refresh in that era, with the '67-'68 and '69-'70 having different exterior styling and interiors. The '69 and '70 had different front end styling as well, with the latter re-adopting the vertical grille slats featured on the earlier model years. The '69 has horizontal slats. The drivetrain and just about everything else of value has been shorn from this car, perhaps before it arrived in this yard. In 1970, a bewildering assortment of V8 engines was available in the Cougar, including a Boss 302, two completely different 351s, and a 335-horse Cobra Jet 428. The base engine was a 351 Windsor making 250 gross horsepower. Since car rooftops mostly don't rust, why would someone cut out this one? Sheet metal needed for patching a leaky shed roof, perhaps? This 2005-2006 Denver Nuggets window sticker indicates that the car was on the street (probably) as recently as 11 years ago. This content is hosted by a third party.
