This 1968 Mercury Cougar RX7 is in beautiful condition with only 73,689 miles on the odometor. The car was fully restored about 8 years ago. The body is super straight and the overall condition is very good. The car is painted in a 1983 Mercury color called medium Pewter. The paint code to repaint any body blemishes is Ford / Mercury Color code M5686. This cars drive drain is all matching numbers! The mechanical options are all correct with some added features such as the Crargar SS chrome rims, front hood scoop and the rear spoiler. The car is very hard to find in this condition with matching numbers. I have a very reasonable reserve considering the cars collector value. Matching numbers is the most collectable thing to have on any older car such as this one.

There are so many questions buyers might have on a car like this so please call me if you’re not sure. I can’t list every single thing that might be a question from you.

MECHANICLE AND ELECTRICAL CONDITION.

The engine in this car sounds excellent, runs smooth, and sounds mean. The engine has no issues, doesnt have any unwanted engin noises such as lifters, rods, pully noises, etc. The transmission functions properly and goes through the low to high gears correctly. Power brakes, steering and suspension are all good. The electrical is good. I don’t know if the gas gauge works, and I found a brand new sending unit for the gas tank in the trunk. The headlights lift and work properly, and so do the sequential tail lights which are expensive if they don’t work. The blinkers, brake lights, head lights, wind shield wipers, radio, and dash lights all work. The A/C does not function, and the interior lights do not go on when you open the doors. The heat is good. I am sure I will miss some things, so be reasonable since I bought this car to restore. For financial reasons, I must sell the car. I only drove this car 20 or 30 miles. It drives straight and the power is there.

I looked at many other Cougar RX7s on ebay and on classic car sights and noticed very little documentation on matching number cars like this. I can only come to the conclusion that many of them have had engine and transmission swaps over the years, so the statement all matching numbers is not mentioned by other sellers. I have given great detail on condition when many sellers do not. Most sellers would simply say what I could have said; this car looks beautiful and is in great condition. I believe this is true. I just wanted to give a complete detailed analysis of this car for the new buyer. All of you car collecting veterans out there can see by looking and by reading my documentation, this is a really good car for the buy now price I have.

EXTERIOR PAINT

The exterior color is not the factory original color. The original factory color was a Diamond Blue Paint, Ford #921-A. the paint Job was professionally done, but over the years has obtained some blemishes. I have the paint code which the car was repainted in, and for minimal investment the sections on the body that need to be repainted could be completed at a reasonable cost. I have taken 50 plus pictures of the body on this car so you can see all areas that need attention. But the car looks beautiful without these repairs being made. Here is what I found on the exterior you would want to address.

1) The passenger side door had a scrape and was touched up.

2) The hood needs repainting due to a spot on the driver’s side of the hood, and a repair on the very nose of the hood.

3) The valance between the hood and the windshield needs repainting.

4) Some areas around the vinyl top need repainting.

5) The trunk lid needs repainting

Keep in mind you DO NOT have to replace any of these panels. They were touched up because of dings and scrapes. There is no body filler on any major body panels on this car.

EXTERIOR TRIM, GLASS AND MOULDINGS

The trim on this car is super nice and needs very little attention. All the molding for the doors, windshield, windows, trunk, tail lights and lenses were replaced new. The rear bumper and sequential tail lights (which do work excellent) look great. Most of the exterior components would not need replacement. The chrome and moldings on this car are in excellent condition. All the glass looks good with no scratches that would be a concern.

INTERIOR

The interior in this car is in excellent condition! The owner of this car worked for an automobile interior restoration company and this being his car was very meticulous about all the details. Basically, the entire interior from ceiling to floor has been replaced in black. (The original interior was data plate code 6U Parchment. The seats have hand stitched Cougar Emblems and look beautiful. You do not need to do any major work on the interior. It looks fantastic.

FRAME AND UNDERSIDE

The frame is straight and clean on this car and the under body, front end components.  Leaf springs rear axle and brackets, shocks, gas tank, and other components look good. If you want a show car you would need to bead blast and repaint. I see very minimal corrosion under this car. In the pictures you will notice undercoating in the wheel wells, etc. The driver floor pan was replaced but it was done professionally from what I can tell. I missed this when I bought the car because it’s such a good repair job. The exhaust system is a simple duel exhaust layout and sounds really good!

MARTI REPORT

A Marti Report is a document you can purchase which I did that tells all the components on the car from the factory. Marti Reports are drawn up using the entire data base for all Ford Motor Company cars in the desired years such as this car. I purchased this report because I noticed the data tag on the door was not the original data tag. Marti reports give you this data through the vehicle identification number on the car, and will even make a duplicate correct tag for your door if you desire. I will purchase this tag for the winning bidder. I have scanned the Marti Report so you can see all the data tag data, options and productions dates for this car. This report is critical since it confirms what I already had. This car has matching numbers engine block, engine heads, intake manifold, transmission and rear axle.

MATCHING NUMBERS

This 1968 Mercury Cougar RX7 has a lot of desired options from the factory. I have a Marti Report that confirms these options (See Scan of Report). One of the difficult issues buying a classic muscle car from the 60s era and any era for that matter is confirming original engine, engine heads, Intake, manifold, carburetor, transmission, rear end, etc. When you buy a car such as this, you can’t remove the starter, take off the valve covers and crawl all over under the car to check matching numbers. This previous owner claimed he knew the original owner and that the engine transmission and rest of the drive train was original. You can buy a car such as this with the correct engine, transmission etc., but that doesn’t mean it’s the original components. The reason I documented all of this car’s build date stamping is to confirm these are the components form this car, and have not been changed due to wear and tear such as engine replacement from another car etc. This car was assembled on 12/20/1967. All the date stampings on the major mechanical components on this car match! The engine block, engine heads, intake manifold, transmission and rear axle all have date stamps showing early December 1967. This coincides with the build date of 12/20/1967. When a car is 46 years old this is a very rear find. The Marti Report also confirms many factory options were not added on. This car was built with front power disc brakes, power steering, air conditioning (A/C does not work), C-4 transmission, and Black Vinyl roof with the 2-V 302 V-8 engine. I have done all the work. Confirming all the above and taking pictures and showing the information I have compiled from various blogs and websites. If you have questions regarding these findings feel free to call me at 630-422-7798 (no text on this phone sorry)

Of course some things have been changed on this car. The rims are craiger SS chrome alloys, the hood has a scoop that came on the RX7 G car, a rear spoiler has been added.

 CONCLUSION

I looked at many other Cougar RX7s on ebay and on classic car sights and noticed very little documentation on matching number cars like this car. I can only come to the conclusion many of them have had engine and transmission swaps over the years so the statement all matching numbers is not mentioned. Ford announces free brake pad offer if customers stop by dealers

Mon, 04 Aug 2014

These days, when you buy a new car, it's not unreasonable to expect a certain period of free maintenance to come along as well. Sometimes this is through the life of the warranty, in other cases a little less. But Ford Motor Company is going beyond those deals for at least one part of its cars. As of now, if you buy a set of Motorcraft brake pads for a Ford, Lincoln or Mercury model, you get free replacements for as long as you own the vehicle. The offer is good at Ford or Lincoln dealers and Quick Lane Tire & Auto Centers.
"We will replace the pads for as long as you own the vehicle," said Elizabeth Weigandt to Autoblog. She did clarify that the Motorcraft pads are generally for models from the '90s or newer. Also, to take advantage of this program, a person must return to the same dealer each time to get the free parts.
Of course, Ford isn't just handing out brake pads to anyone who walks by; there are certain stipulations. First, the components have to be worn down to less than three millimeters to be eligible, and the buyer still has to pay for the labor to install them. If the model is used as a fleet vehicle for commercial purposes like as a taxi or limousine, this offer also doesn't apply; the same thing for racecars. On the plus side, if you recently bought a set of pads from one of the participating locations, you're still in luck. The deal covers parts purchased as of July 1.

Report: Lincoln getting all of Mercury's ad dollars

Mon, 03 Jan 2011

Now that the curtain has closed on Mercury, Ford Motor Company will redirect all of its marketing dollars for the oft-overlooked brand to the Blue Oval's luxury outpost, Lincoln. In speaking to Automotive News, the chairman of the Lincoln National Dealer Council, Bob Tasca, Jr., said, "You'll see a lot stronger presence in the advertising of Lincoln in 2011."
Lincoln spokesperson Christian Bokich reminded AN that the automaker is "preparing the way for seven new or significantly refreshed vehicles" that will be launched over the next four years, and the largest ad blitz in 2011 will focus on the refreshed MKX crossover, as well as the MKZ sedan and its hybrid counterpart. Following that, Lincoln has plans to launch a completely overhauled version of its Navigator SUV, an all-new C-segment vehicle and the overhauled 2013 MKZ, which Tasca says will be "strikingly different from its Ford Fusion sibling."

The AM37 is literally the Aston Martin of boats

Wed, Sep 28 2016

While sports car companies such as Porsche and Lamborghini are looking to SUVs to expand their offerings, Aston Martin has taken a page from Mercedes and designed a boat. Specifically, it's a 37-foot powerboat appropriately named the AM37. The boat was developed with help from Mulder Design and Quintessence Yachts, and is available in two different versions, both of which should the aquatic equivalent of Aston Martin performance. The standard AM37 is available with two different pairs of engines from Mercury, either 370-horsepower diesel engines or 450-horsepower gas engines. If that's not enough, Aston also offers the AM37S, which comes with a pair of 520-horsepower gasoline Mercury engines. Like road-going Astons, this boat is absolutely gorgeous. The lines are simple, crisp and clean. It features a beautiful wood deck, and an impressive double-curved, single-piece glass windshield. And if you get tired of the sun, the AM37 features a powered, carbon fiber bimini top. The interior completes the package with a carbon fiber dashboard, lots of leather and polished steering wheel, throttle and joystick. It's also incredibly well-equipped with seating for eight, air conditioning, mood lighting, refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker, a bed that folds out from the table, and even a bathroom. Aston Martin didn't release pricing or availability for the AM37. However, we suspect that if you really want this boat and have the means, pricing doesn't matter, and you're probably willing to wait.
