Completely restored 1967 mercury cougar xr7 one of a kind show winner. I have spent the last 8 years and a lot of money completing the following; THE DRIVE TRAIN; custom built 347 ci stroker motor with roller cam, 750 cfm 4150hp Holley carb, msd pro billet distributer w/msd 6al ignition system, all brackets are custom 1 of a kind hand made out of billet aluminum, utilizing a gm thermostat housing , gm power steering pump, a gm 1 wire alternator. All power is transmitted through a ford top loader 4 spd w/Hurst shifter connected to a custom built ford 9 inch rear end w/3.55 gear. The exhaust system starts with hooker headers which have ball flanges added and have been ceramic coated, tig welded to stainless steel magnaflow x pipe the and exits through the magnaflow system, producing the most awesome sound you will ever hear. THE SUSPENSION; the rear suspension has new leaf springs w/ an extra leaf added and a additional inch of arch, new shocks and all bushings, hooks up very well and has no wheel hop. The front suspension has new springs and shocks and a 1 inch sway bar that almost eliminates all body roll, this car corners like its on rails. THE BRAKES; 4 wheel power disc brakes bring this monster to a grinding halt with no effort. The front brakes are from a 1978 ford Granada all new. The rear brakes are from a 1996 ford explorer also all new. THE LIGHTING; the sequential turn signals work very well, was upgraded to electronic version but the mechanical assembly comes with the car. The vacuum head lamps work, but not very well since the vacuum reservoir has been greatly reduced and the large cam reduces engine vacuum. THE INTERIOR; is almost completely original all was either died or recovered, the car was originally an automatic car but no wholes were cut and the factory consol was added. A USA 230 from classic stereos was added (no cutting) w/usb and I pod attachments the front seats were recovered (not very well) and the car comes with a set of hi backs that need recovered. Has new carpet and front kick panels w/ speakers. The head liner has a small hole above driver’s sun visor. THE BODY; has new fender aprons front and rear the core support was laid back 1 inch at the top to facilitate the installation of a electric cooling fan, all the wheel moldings and bumpers and door handles were replaced with re chromed or new have originals that go with the car. A few of the chrome trim pieces have small dings. Has a 1969 mustang rear spoiler and hood scoop. Has 2011 camaro gray metallic paint with black strips the c strip was modeled after the mustang and the xr7 logo was stenciled into the stripe; this was all done in paint under the clear (no stickers). OTHER STUFF; all lines and hoses were replaced with new and sure grip gates heat shrink hose clamps were used that work very well, new gas tank and sending unit, the battery tray was custom built for a 75 series gm side post battery. The horn button was shaved 2 inches as to not be ugly. This car looks great driving down the road gets all kinds of attention at the shows and runs and drives every bit as good. Has the Mercury Marauder gotten better with age?
Fri, Oct 23 2015In the early 2000s Mercury desperately wanted to develop some edge for its brand – seemingly stuck between a quasi-premium, quasi-performance space in the Ford Universe. The Marauder is perhaps the most famous of the vehicles that resulted from those efforts, and is rapidly approaching Modern Classic status, today. Effectively a murdered out Grand Marquis with some updated trim pieces – what are company parts bins for, if not raiding? – the Marauder looked convincingly like a bad guy car. The 4.6-liter V8 under its hood that had been breathed on by engineers for a little more power, kicking out 302 horsepower and 318 pound-feet of torque from the factory. Not exactly Ferrari-baiting numbers, but it'd give your local cop's car a run for its money. Being a wild child of the last decade, of course our friends at MotorWeek had it on the program. What better way to test your mean-mugging muscle sedan than with John Davis' tanned and steady hands?
Ford announces free brake pad offer if customers stop by dealers
Mon, 04 Aug 2014These days, when you buy a new car, it's not unreasonable to expect a certain period of free maintenance to come along as well. Sometimes this is through the life of the warranty, in other cases a little less. But Ford Motor Company is going beyond those deals for at least one part of its cars. As of now, if you buy a set of Motorcraft brake pads for a Ford, Lincoln or Mercury model, you get free replacements for as long as you own the vehicle. The offer is good at Ford or Lincoln dealers and Quick Lane Tire & Auto Centers.
"We will replace the pads for as long as you own the vehicle," said Elizabeth Weigandt to Autoblog. She did clarify that the Motorcraft pads are generally for models from the '90s or newer. Also, to take advantage of this program, a person must return to the same dealer each time to get the free parts.
Of course, Ford isn't just handing out brake pads to anyone who walks by; there are certain stipulations. First, the components have to be worn down to less than three millimeters to be eligible, and the buyer still has to pay for the labor to install them. If the model is used as a fleet vehicle for commercial purposes like as a taxi or limousine, this offer also doesn't apply; the same thing for racecars. On the plus side, if you recently bought a set of pads from one of the participating locations, you're still in luck. The deal covers parts purchased as of July 1.
Junkyard Gem: 1973 Mercury Marquis Brougham 4-Door Pillared Hardtop
Tue, Nov 7 2023Ford's Mercury Division debuted the Marquis in the 1967 model year, as a sporty coupe based on a stretched Ford LTD chassis. When the LTD got an update for 1969, so did the Marquis, and production of that generation of the top-of-the-line Mercury continued through 1978 (the Grand Marquis hit streets the following year). The 1969-1978 Marquis was a big, imposing land yacht, and the Brougham version came absolutely loaded with affordable luxury. Today's Junkyard Gem is a Marquis Brougham from the first year of the Malaise Era, found in a Phoenix self-service car graveyard recently. This car appears to have spent decades sitting outdoors in one of the harshest climates in the country, and so it's in rough shape. The vinyl top received the full thermonuclear treatment and is mostly obliterated by now. The interior got thoroughly cooked as well. Still, its original opulence shines through if you use some imagination. What hurts is that this car was packed with most of the good options, including the mighty 460-cubic-inch (7.5-liter) V8 engine with four-barrel carburetor. The price for the 460 was just $76 in this car, or around $548 in today's money. The base engine was a 429 (7.0-liter). Power numbers were way down for 1973 when compared to a couple of years earlier, partly as the result of tightening emissions standards but mostly due to the switch from gross to net power ratings that began midway during 1971 and was completed by the end of 1972. This engine was rated at 202 horsepower and 330 pound-feet. The only transmission available was a three-speed automatic. We can assume that the original buyer of this car and its single-digit fuel economy had a rough time when the OPEC oil embargo hit in the fall of 1973. Believe it or not, air conditioning was not standard equipment on the '73 Marquis Brougham (you had to move up to a Lincoln for that). This one even has the automatic temperature control feature, adding a total of $508 to the cost of this car (about $3,661 in 2023 dollars). That AM/FM/8-track radio—or, in fact, any radio—was an extra-cost option as well, with a price tag of $363 ($2,616 after inflation). The MSRP for the 1973 Marquis Brougham sedan (known as a "pillared hardtop" thanks to the frameless window glass) was $5,072, which comes to $36,555 in today's dollars. Obviously, its out-the-door cost would have been much higher with all the options.
