1967 Mercury Cougar 289 Factory A/c 2 Door Coupe Low Mileage on 2040-cars
San Diego, California, United States
Selling my 1967 Mercury Cougar. Its the base model. Car is very original and super low miles with documentation to support it. Im the second owner of this car, and have owned it for the last 15 years. This car has been stored indoors most of its life.
Interior...... Interior is original except for the carpet with I replaced with an OEM type of the exact same as the original. The rest is untouched and for having the years it has on it is in amazing condition. Dash, headliner Seats gauges, steering wheel, door panels center console all very clean. Issues are the tear on the top of the drivers seat which is visible in the pictures, and pitting on the a/c heater control as well as on the vents and the painted chrome bezel around the dash pad is thinned in areas Exterior....... Car is all there, all molding trim lights bumpers etc, all 100% original. Paint is not original, original color was a light sky blue. Car was painted in 2000. Paint is in great shape and has never been color sanded. This Car is 100% rust free. It is as solid as a rock. Drive train..... This car is matching on everything. Motor Trans complete drivetrain is original. It runs amazing. No leaks and no issues what so ever on how it drives. A/C converted to 134 and it blows cold with the original compressor. I could not imagine this car being able to run any smoother. Whats not original.... Muffler (flowmaster 3 Chamber) Rims and center caps (SS type normally found on a mustang) I do have the original hub caps and rims. Carb. (Oem just not original) Radiator Replaced two row with a 3 row. I have original 2 row still. Removed the California smog stuff but still have it saved. Issues... Lazy headlight hood on the driver side. It opens and closes however its slower than the other side. Rear quarter panel has a ding in it. Its really minor. Shopping cart or something (boy I would like to get my hands on that guy) Missing One Black License Plate This Car is a looker I tell you. I have driven many cars and this one takes the cake. The Midnight Blue on the White interior with the shining chrome is a great combination. That with the way its runs and sounds and the classic rims with the BFG's White letters out just catches every eye. Its a classy Classic. One of the best looking if not the best looking 67 I have seen. I stand behind this car 100%. If the buyer is not satisfied when you come to get the car well no problem and no money lost. Car is worth every penny I am asking. You dont find cars like this anymore. If you have any questions please feel free to ask. |

Junkyard Gem: 1993 Mercury Topaz GS Sedan
Sat, Aug 13 2022As long as the Mercury brand existed — a period spanning the 1939 through 2011 model years — nearly every Mercury sold in the United States was more or less a redecorated Ford model. The Torino had its Montego sibling, the Crown Victoria had the Grand Marquis, the Cougar was based on everything from the Mustang to the Mondeo, and so on. Naturally, when the folks in Dearborn developed the Ford Tempo compact, a Mercury version had to be created. This was the Topaz, with the official launch of both cars taking place on the deck of the aircraft carrier often referred to as the USS Decrepit. You can't make this stuff up! The Tempo/Topaz, also known as the Tempaz, has largely faded from our collective automotive memory by now, since it broke no significant new engineering or styling ground (this story would be much different if Ford had only put the amazing straight-eight "T-Drive" Tempaz powertrain into production) and didn't have any endearing features other than being a cheap domestic competitor to the Toyota Corolla and Nissan Sentra. Still, close to 3 million Tempazes left North American Ford and Lincoln-Mercury showrooms during the 1984-1994 period. As you'd expect, most of these disposable cars disappeared from both the street and the car graveyard long ago. It takes a very special Tempaz for me to break out my camera while I'm patrolling my local wrecking yards; generally, this means an ultra-rare all-wheel-drive version or at least a very early model in super-clean condition. Today's Junkyard Gem is neither, but I took one look at this spectacular Bordello Red crypto-velour-and-slippery-plastic interior and recognized that this was no ordinary junkyard Mercury. It appears that Mercury had dropped the idea of clever names for base-grade seat fabrics by the time of the Topaz, referring to this stuff as just "cloth" in all the brochures I could find. That's too bad, because Mercurys had cool names for upholstery (e.g., Chromatex) in the old days. The interior is in very good condition but the steering wheel shows substantial wear, so I think this is a high-mile Topaz that got meticulous care from its owner or owners. Ford used five-digit odometers on these cars until the end of production, however, so we'll never know if this reading indicates 65,404 miles or 365,404 miles. The body is very straight, but there's some nasty corrosion behind the right front wheelwell.
Junkyard Gem: 1991 Mercury Capri
Mon, Sep 19 2016Ford has gotten a lot of use out of the Capri name in the United States. First, there was the Lincoln Capri in the 1950s, followed by the Ford Capri Mk1 (which was sold by Mercury dealers in the USA but never actually badged as a Mercury). Then came the 1979-1986 Mercury Capri, built on the very successful Fox Platform and essentially a clone of the Mustang. Finally, in 1991, the Australian Ford Capri came to the United States. Here is an example of this rare car that I spotted in a Northern California self-service yard not long ago. Mechanically speaking, the 1991-1994 Capri was a Mazda 323 under the skin, complete with a member of the same B-series engine family that went into such cars as the Miata and Ford Escort. So, for a few years in the early 1990s, car shoppers who wanted a sporty Mazda convertible could choose between a Miata and a Capri. The Capri had front-wheel-drive, but could be had with factory turbocharging. These cars were reliable and fun, but had a tough time competing with the Miata in the showroom battles. You'll see the occasional example now and then, but most of the 1991-1994 Capris have met the same fate that awaits this one. Related Video:
NHTSA will investigate some Ford Fusion, Lincoln MKZ models for power steering issue
Tue, 07 Oct 2014The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is opening an investigation into the 2010-2012 Ford Fusion, Fusion Hybrid and Lincoln MKZ, the 2012 MKZ Hybrid and 2011 Mercury Milan because the agency has hundreds of complaints of electric power steering failure in these models.
According to NHTSA's data, it has received 508 complaints of the power steering allegedly suddenly malfunctioning and resulting in increased effort to turn the wheel. In four incidents, these failures resulted in loss of control and crashes. According to the reports, in some cases a power steering warning message came on as the fault occurred, and other times the system restored itself by turning off and then restarting the vehicle. NHTSA said it has also received further field report data from Ford, but that information hasn't been publicly released yet.
For the moment, there isn't a recall for this failure on these models. NHTSA is just investigating them to "assess the scope, frequency and safety consequences of the alleged defect," and the agency says an estimated 938,000 vehicles could potentially be affected.
