1966 MERCURY COMET CONVERTIBLE CALIENTE Up for your bidding pleasure is a '66 Comet Convertible 289 automatic. The story behind this car is as follows: a buddy of mine owned this car for 5 years and drove it occasionally around the block with his dogs and the top down. His wife just had a baby and therefore had no further use for the car. I purchased the car from him 2 months ago. The paint is fairly new and pretty decent with a few nicks and scrapes from sitting. Also, it has a fiberglass hood with some spidering in the paint and a crack near one of the hinges. He never got around to putting all of the trim pieces back on. I installed most of the trim pieces with the exception of the rocker mouldings (which are missing and do not come with the car), and the top surround chrome (which IS included with the car). This car is not a show car, nor is it a rat, but merely a fun, presentable, daily driver. It does need some TLC and some tinkering but is drivable while doing so. The wheels and tires are new, the exhaust consists of headers and dual mufflers. It also has after-market power front disc brakes. The power top pump operates and the top does go up and down with assistance (there may be air in the system, not sure). The seats and the door panels were redone. There is no carpet. The front floors have been patched and the left rear floor has two minor holes that would need to be patched. The trunk is in decent shape. The true mileage of the car is unknown but eBay requires a number in that field, therefore the 999,999 entry. Once the engine is warm, there is a low-end noise. The car has been driven like this for the past 5 years with no issues. I recently took a 60 mile trip with no problem at all. Overall, the car just needs to be taken to the next level, but for the price, it's a great start. A good car for the money. The State of Connecticut does not require titles on old cars and this car will be sold with a Bill of Sale only. If this is a problem, please do not bid. This car is also for sale locally and I reserve the right to end the auction at any time. I also have some extra pieces (stock steering wheel, arm rests, trunk-lock cylinder, etc.) that will be included with the sale of the car. Thanks and good luck bidding! |

Ford recalls 600,000 older-model sedans for braking issue
Fri, Dec 20 2019Ford is recalling 600,166 older-model Ford, Lincoln and Mercury vehicles over an issue that could affect braking and increase the risk of a crash. The safety recall covers certain Ford Fusion, Mercury Milan and Lincoln MKZ sedans from the 2006 through 2010 model years that were built at Ford’s Hermosillo Assembly Plant in Mexico between Feb. 22, 2006, and July 15, 2009. Ford says a valve that is normally closed inside the hydraulic control unit may get stuck in the open position or be slow to close, which could make it harder to engage the brakes and increase risk of a crash. Ford says itÂ’s aware of 15 reports of accidents and two injuries possibly related to the issue. Dealers will inspect the hydraulic control unit for signs of the problem and replace it, if necessary. The dealers will pressure-flush the system with brake fluid and replace the reservoir cap with a new one. Ford is also issuing a small recall of 33 of its 2020 F-150 trucks in the U.S. and 51 in Canada over potentially damaged spare tires. It says the bead area on the tires may have been damaged when it was mounted onto the wheel assembly, leaving it vulnerable to corrosion, separation of the bead wire and ultimately a rapid loss of air pressure and detachment from the wheel. Dealers will replace the spare tire. Affected vehicles were built at the Dearborn Truck Plant from Nov. 10-21 of this year.
Ford finally issues recall for 230K minivans over rust problems
Sun, 10 Mar 2013The rust issue in the rear wheel wells of 2004-2007 Ford Freestar and Mercury Monterey minivans has finally led to a recall. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration began an investigation into the matter in 2011, said investigation being upgraded to an engineering analysis a year later while NHTSA tried to figure out how many model years should be included in the assessment.
Ford has decided to recall all of the 230,000 minivans potentially affected, namely those sold in salt-belt states and countries like Canada. The excess rust in the rear wheel wells was also able to prevent the third-row seats from locking to the floor of the minivan. To repair the problem, owners can take their minivans to dealers, and the dealers will place new panels in the wheel wells, replace the third-row seat mounting brackets and relocate the latches to an area away from any corrosion.
Ford says it will begin notifying owners during the last week of March.
NHTSA and Ford investigating steering issues in Crown Vic, Grand Marquis and Marauder
Fri, 11 Jul 2014There may be more steering woes for the Ford Crown Victoria. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has opened a preliminary evaluation into the Crown Vic and Mercury Grand Marquis from the 2004 to 2007 model years and the Mercury Marauder for the 2004 and 2005 model years because the steering shaft can jam. The issue could potentially affect an estimated 500,000 vehicles.
According to the regulator, there is a possibility that the driver's side heat shield for the exhaust manifold can rust, dislodge, and then wedge into the steering shaft. If this occurs, it leads to a situation where the driver can no longer control the car.
NHTSA has received five complaints of this happening, including one alleged case with an injury. In that situation, the car was driving onto the highway, lost control and rolled over. One occupant was hurt in the accident.
