1965 Mercury Comet Cyclone, This car was built in Lorain, Ohio on December 12th 1964... shes almost 50. Sold new at Macon county Ford/Mercury it lived most of its life in Macon, Georgia. Its been in NC for a few years now. This is my 5th comet, 2nd Cyclone- I hate to sell it but have too many projects going on at once to finish it. I have a clear title in my name. Ill describe the car as best I can- Original red with white vinyl top, I thought about painting top white to look factory but I have the trim pieces to make it a regular hardtop if you wanted to. Car was painted about 7 years ago and shines nicely, has a few minor spots on rh front fender that may buff out. Top is losing its shine a little bit. Frame rails are solid. Needs heater core, bypassed for now. This is one of the Cyclones that came with the uber-rare factory fiberglass hood. Original owner removed it for safekeeping replacing it with standard hood but it was painted to match when car was done. It is in excellent condition, you know what these hoods go for since only an estimated 200-300 were made- see pics. Doors, hood, deck lid and front fenders were removed when painted so both sides could be done and are in great shape. Painted in PPG Nason Holly Red, real sharp. interior was originally red carpet with white buckets. Now has black caliente bench seats. Car has 69 mustang 4 barrel 302 with 88 mustang GT H.O. heads for running unleaded. Early 70s vintage weiand intake and edelbrock carb. Mild cam. Original 4 speed. Runs strong, turns great, brakes well, shifts well, sounds great nice throaty exhaust note. Lights, signals, wipers and gauges work but amp gauge doesn't always indicate proper volts though car charges perfectly. 69 mach one chrome wheels with fairly new rubber. New parts include- dash pad, battery, leaf springs (St Louis spring company) shackles, bushings and all hardware with new KYB gas-adjust shocks. Headliner is new but needs tightened up some. Windsheild and seal, rear window seal, trunk seal and door seals. Door panels were recovered with new armrests a couple years ago. Freshly chromed front bumper- still in box. Needs rear bumper chromed and has a slight bend in it that could be straightened by any decent bumper shop. I have rear window trim but haven't installed it yet. Also have 2 lower windshield trim pieces both in good shape. Many extra parts including headlight buckets with entire headlight assembly and housing, gauge cluster taillights, turn signals, rear trim panels, front wheelwell trim, drip rails, cyclone bucket seats and rear seat- need recovered, console- needs restored but all there and not broken- more trim parts etc. I do not have rocker molding or rear wheelwell trim- these parts are unique to the Cyclone and are very difficult to find. I opted to leave it plain but you can fnd them on ebay sometimes. If you want a true red 65 cyclone 4 speed, here ya go, drive it while you finish it or just cruise as is, guaranteed to draw attention everywhere you go. No warranty expressed or implied- NO RESERVE. Thanks for looking! |

The AM37 is literally the Aston Martin of boats
Wed, Sep 28 2016While sports car companies such as Porsche and Lamborghini are looking to SUVs to expand their offerings, Aston Martin has taken a page from Mercedes and designed a boat. Specifically, it's a 37-foot powerboat appropriately named the AM37. The boat was developed with help from Mulder Design and Quintessence Yachts, and is available in two different versions, both of which should the aquatic equivalent of Aston Martin performance. The standard AM37 is available with two different pairs of engines from Mercury, either 370-horsepower diesel engines or 450-horsepower gas engines. If that's not enough, Aston also offers the AM37S, which comes with a pair of 520-horsepower gasoline Mercury engines. Like road-going Astons, this boat is absolutely gorgeous. The lines are simple, crisp and clean. It features a beautiful wood deck, and an impressive double-curved, single-piece glass windshield. And if you get tired of the sun, the AM37 features a powered, carbon fiber bimini top. The interior completes the package with a carbon fiber dashboard, lots of leather and polished steering wheel, throttle and joystick. It's also incredibly well-equipped with seating for eight, air conditioning, mood lighting, refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker, a bed that folds out from the table, and even a bathroom. Aston Martin didn't release pricing or availability for the AM37. However, we suspect that if you really want this boat and have the means, pricing doesn't matter, and you're probably willing to wait. Junkyard Gem: 1979 Mercury Marquis 2-Door Sedan
Sun, Jul 25 2021As the creator of the now-much-overused term "Malaise Era" (which I say started in 1973 and ended in 1983, full stop), I have a certain affection for the big two-door Detroit cars of the late 1970s. When such a car is built on the very first model year of Ford's long-lived Panther platform and I find one in a junkyard, I must document it. The 1979 Mercury Marquis is such a car, and this one was found in a San Francisco Bay Area self-service yard last month. Since Ford built the Grand Marquis all the way through the demise of the Panther platform— and Mercury itself— in 2011, it's easy for us to forget that the model name started out as just the plain old Marquis, back in the 1967 model year, with the Grand appellation used for the car's top trim level. While today's Junkyard Gem has some of the features of the Grand Marquis and Marquis Brougham trim levels for 1979 (notably the padded vinyl landau roof and power windows), it lacks the huge chrome lower-body moldings of those cars. Instead, it's a regular Marquis 2-door sedan with a big load of expensive options. That landau roof has suffered greatly from its decades beneath the vinyl-disintegrating California sun. The Panther platform was a big technological upgrade from the late-1950s-vintage chassis technology of full-sized Fords of the 1960s and 1970s, and it stayed in front-line service in much the same form through 2011. Though its ride and handling were much improved, the 1979 Marquis was quite a bit smaller than its predecessors, and that caused some grumbling among Mercury shoppers. Some ham-handed junkyard shoppers really tore up the interior of this car while extracting a few bits and pieces, but we can still admire the Pine Green pleather of the glorious Twin Comfort Lounge front seats. You had two engine choices when buying a new '79 Marquis: the base 302-cubic-inch (5.0-liter) Windsor V8 making 129 horsepower or the optional 351-cubic-inch (5.8-liter) Windsor V8 rated at 138 horsepower. This one appears to be the 351, the same engine as had been swapped into the pizza-delivery Mercury I drove in the middle 1980s. New cars sold in California around this time had these giant emissions-numbers stickers on the side glass. Later, they went on the underside of the hood.
NHTSA probing 2000-2003 Ford Taurus and Mercury Sable models over throttle issue
Mon, 29 Oct 2012A potential issue with the speed control cable collar has got the 2003-20003 Ford Taurus and Mercury Sable under the spotlight of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. If the collar breaks it can cause the throttle to be stuck open.
The issue is limited to vehicles with the 3.0-liter V6 Duratec. There are just 50 complaints so far out of 310,000 cars, but the NHTSA has begun an investigation into whether a recall should be issued.
