Tires: Riken Raptor HR P205/55R16H mfg. date is 08/12 I bought them from discount tire in the fall of 2012, nearly brand new full tread tires.
Wheels: 16" 7 spoke Aluminum Alloys are from newer model Mercedes Benz (I have the original 15" wheels with very worn tires if the buyer would like them)
I purchased this vehicle about 2 and a half years ago. I have a used it as my daily driver for over 2 years. The engine always starts. It does not smoke. The transmission shifts well with a more moderate throttle opening, at low throttle openings it shifts very firm, this is due to the vacuum system needing adjustment. I intended to restore this wonderful example of German engineering like Mike Brewer and Edd China on the BBC hit TV show "Wheeler Dealer" but it wasn't in the cards since I drove it so much.
I did manage to upgrade the wheels and tires, replace the following: battery, front brakes, front inner and outer tie rod assemblies, steering damper, rear shocks, front windshield, inside rearview mirror, coolant expansion tank, radiator cap, fuel cap, fuel return hoses, power window switches, fuel injector pump seals, power brake vacuum hose assembly, various rubber and hard vacuum lines under the hood, underhood fuel filters and windshield washer nozzles.
It rides great on the freeway, and the more you drive it like you're on the Autobahn the better it feels. I got nearly 30 MPG combined city/hwy. even driving it aggressively. This is the fastest classic diesel you'll find, this is the 3.0L 6cyl. turbodiesel engine you want. The first summer I ran it on some Biodiesel (B10 or less, homebrew and pump) but have put only regular diesel for over the last year now. I performed the "Purple wire afterglow mod" so you only have to cycle the glowplugs once and it starts every time, I did not cut the wire so it may me returned to factory specs in 2 minutes, Temperature gauge rises to the mid range and stays there, never comes close to running too hot. R134a A/C works if direct wired, Mercedes specialist says it needs a HVAC head unit. Only front windows work, not rear. As you can see from the pictures this is not a perfect car with lots of dings, dents etc. there are plenty of quirks or things that could be fixed or just jump in and drive it for many more years. One key locks the central locking doors and sets alarm. Lots of extra parts in trunk.

Next Aston Vantage will be the only way to get an AMG V8 with a stick
Tue, Mar 29 2016With only a few exceptions, most of them factory customs, AMG hasn't built cars with manual transmissions. It just isn't the way things are done in Affalterbach. But now that Mercedes's in-house speed shop will be supplying engines to Aston Martin, the world will be treated to cars with three pedals and overengineered German V8s wrapped in a pretty British package. We're into it. The news comes from Car and Driver, which spoke to Aston Martin CEO Andy Palmer about the new Vantage among other things. Palmer confirms to C/D that the Vantage will continue to offer manual and automatic transmissions when the next-gen car arrives featuring the AMG 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8. In its most potent form, the eight-cylinder makes 503 horsepower and 479 lb-ft of torque in the AMG GT S. Figure on a little more from the Aston-ized version, just for fun. The current V8 Vantage GT makes 430 hp and 361 lb-ft from its naturally aspirated 4.7-liter. While some may lament the new engine's forced induction, that added power and the thoroughly modern behavior of the AMG engine should be welcome. While the AMG V8 is currently only planned to go into Aston's entry-level car, C/D does mention a possibility of it (and perhaps its three-pedal transmission) making its way into other cars as an economy option for certain markets. If a V8 DB11 were to be offered, don't expect it to show up here, though. There's also no word on who will supply the manual for the AMG-Aston mashup, but it likely will be a transaxle like the current Vantage. Ex-factory manual AMGs aren't totally unprecedented. Pagani has built some three-pedal cars with its massaged AMG V12s. Compared to those, however, these manual Vantages can be considered mass-production cars. And really, any increase in the number of sticks mated to AMG engines can only be a good thing. Online Find of the Day: Lexus-engined Mercedes pickup is a vintage hybrid
Tue, 16 Sep 2014You have to love someone who gets incredibly committed to a very weird idea. What you see for sale here is a right-hand drive 1971 Mercedes-Benz 220D in South Africa, but this old Mercedes is now converted into a pickup, complete with bed cover, and there's big secret under the hood, too.
The pickup conversion appears well done based on seller Sedgefield Classic Cars' photos. Even the tonneau cover fits well. You could almost believe that this Mercedes lived its life as a Chevrolet El Camino-like pickup from the very beginning.
However, the rear-quarters conversion might not be the weirdest thing about this Mercedes. The original diesel is gone from the engine bay in favor of a Lexus V8. It seems really odd to pop the hood and find a Japanese mill in this German car, but the photos make it look like a fairly well performed swap. So, bravo to the crazy thinking. According to the seller speaking to Autoblog by email, "as far as we can establish, this was done a few years ago, with all Lexus components."
