2000 Mercedes-benz Slk230 Kompressor Convertible Orig Owner 176k Miles Ca Car on 2040-cars
San Marcos, California, United States
2000 SLK230 Silver with Black
Original Owner. Garage Kept. Purchased car in december of 1999. Car just had regular service on December 2nd 2013. Removed factory 5 disc changer, and it now has a Pioneer DEH-P7000BT Bluetooth hands free using built in Mercedes microphone and stereo speakers. Play music from USB connected iPhone, charges phone too. Replaced front grill with more modern slope nose grill. The car was hit from behind once back in like 2005. I was stopped at a light and a drunk hit me from behind, but square on. So the car drives PERFECTLY, does NOT pull to one side or anything, crash was over 8 years ago. Clean title. Local pick up. Or buyer also pays for shipping service. Convertible roof works 100% !! Top goes up and down just fine, you can even stop in the middle and put it the other way. [ if opening it, you can stop in the middle and close it, or other way around. Top is in perfect working order ] The only issue from the crash is that some times the trunk is a pain to close if it gets misaligned. [ then you have to wiggle it a little left to right - and then it will close ] [ the best way to avoid this, is to NEVER open the trunk when the top is down! ] known problems: front windshield has a nickel size crack. rips in the driver seat driver inside door handle/trim is loose Ash try doesn't close properly - but you can latch it, 90% closed. ( see photo ) lines/cracks in gear shifter plastic Air conditioner works 100%, but the control to turn it on is a little flakey. You have to sometimes shake it to turn off or on. But it always works, you just have to know to give the turn switch a little downward pull to make it listen to you. one light bulb in the dash is usually out [ every now and then it works and the dash would be fully illuminated ] [ but its not like you can't read the gauges. ] Exterior is in great shape. Esp for a 14 year old car. Had most of the paint redone back in 2012. Mirrors show wear, and there are 2 scratches on trunk. And minor parking damage in front corner. passenger fog light is not working. I have all 4 keys: 2 remote "switch blade" keys and then the valet key and then I guess its a non remote spare key. This is a 14 year old car, so a lot of this is somewhat normal, but I want to list everything as to not mislead anyone. |

2021 Mercedes-Maybach GLS 600 First Drive | Fat cat money
Thu, Feb 18 2021ANN ARBOR, Mich. — Do you like the Mercedes-Benz GLS-Class, but just donÂ’t think itÂ’s fancy or expensive enough as it is? Maybe the AMG version is too audaciously sporty or you'd prefer a completely different flavor of garish. Maybe you donÂ’t want to be seen driving the GLS at all. If youÂ’re looking for the perfect GLS to be driven in, but need to make sure you look more like the type of fat cat to blow money on lavish, boozy dinners and decorative fountains than the pro baller who splurges on a home gym and tennis courts, Mercedes finally has the giant SUV just for you: the Mercedes-Maybach GLS 600. Is this tongue-in-cheek straw man in any way indicative of an actual Maybach owner? Who knows. We can barely comprehend how rich someone might be who can afford this $161,525 ultra-luxury SUV (before any options) let alone actually know someone of such largesse. Nevertheless, the GLS upon which it's based is certainly no stranger to us. We first drove the GLS 470 in Austria's Tyrolean Alps, sampled the AMG GLS 63 in the Columbia River Gorge, and nominated its bouncy E-Active Body Control suspension for AutoblogÂ’s 2020 Technology of the Year Award. Most of the same ingredients are present in the Maybach 600, but just one look at this two-tone luxury liner requires you to rethink the scope of what the GLS can do. While the overall body style looks more or less the same, there was no mistaking our tester for an ordinary GLS, or even an extraordinary AMG model. The two-tone paint — Lunar Blue Metallic below, and Iridium Silver Metallic from the beltline up — shouts to passersby (in an aristocratic German accent, presumably) that thereÂ’s something different going on here. The optional wheels, which get their own Maybach design, measure an absolutely massive 23 inches. Perched on the nose is the nearly extinct Mercedes hood ornament. The final giveaway comes when you move in a little closer and see the Maybach badging on the grille, tailgate and D-pillars. But seriously, that paint job is something else. The exterior doesnÂ’t quite do justice to what awaits within. The driverÂ’s door opens to a rich, inviting and clearly technologically advanced cockpit. The dual screen dash housing the instrument panel and infotainment touchscreen is becoming familiar from GLS down to GLA, as are the multitude of controls on the wheel and center console with which one can easily interact with them.
Daimler exec hypothetically discusses 3-cylinder engines for small hybrids
Wed, Mar 26 2014Is three the magic number of cylinders for Mercedes-Benz parent Daimler and its efforts to build smaller powertrains for its compact hybrids? Potentially, yes, the German automaker could see the need for three-cylinder mills, Automotive News reports. The company doesn't have any plans for them as of yet, though. Daimler executive Bernhard Heil talked with Automotive News about the challenges of using four-cylinder engines in a front-wheel-drive setup and said that three-cylinder engines could work in transverse-mounted powertrains for hybrid cars. For now, though, the company doesn't actually have any plans to go in that direction, Mercedes-Benz spokesman Christoph Horn said in an e-mail to AutoblogGreen. Horn wrote that Heil "actually said that if ever MB would use a three-cylinder engine than [it would be] in a configuration where space is restricted, such as when using a hybrid power train in a compact car." Of course, the only compact "hybrid" that Mercedes-Benz has is the 2015 C-Class, but that refers to the "hybrid" body is made of 48-percent aluminum, up from the current nine percent, as well as steel. It has nothing to do with the powertrain. Beyond that, there's always the Mercedes-Benz S500 Plug-in Hybrid that the company unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show last fall, but that model, which will debut in Europe later this year and arrive stateside next year, has a 3.0-liter turbocharged V6 and an 80-kilowatt electric motor that propels the plug-in from 0 to 62 miles per hour in 5.5 seconds. Not exactly three-cylinder territory, that.
Online Find of the Day: Lexus-engined Mercedes pickup is a vintage hybrid
Tue, 16 Sep 2014You have to love someone who gets incredibly committed to a very weird idea. What you see for sale here is a right-hand drive 1971 Mercedes-Benz 220D in South Africa, but this old Mercedes is now converted into a pickup, complete with bed cover, and there's big secret under the hood, too.
The pickup conversion appears well done based on seller Sedgefield Classic Cars' photos. Even the tonneau cover fits well. You could almost believe that this Mercedes lived its life as a Chevrolet El Camino-like pickup from the very beginning.
However, the rear-quarters conversion might not be the weirdest thing about this Mercedes. The original diesel is gone from the engine bay in favor of a Lexus V8. It seems really odd to pop the hood and find a Japanese mill in this German car, but the photos make it look like a fairly well performed swap. So, bravo to the crazy thinking. According to the seller speaking to Autoblog by email, "as far as we can establish, this was done a few years ago, with all Lexus components."
