Greetings! For sale is my 1997 Mercedes Benz 320SL. It is my everyday driver and I would not hesitate to take it across the country if needs be. The vehicle does have a rebuilt title, as apparently it did have theft history in New York before my ownership. I purchased the vehicle in West Palm Beach, Florida in October of 2012. The odometer shows just under 145k miles. This is a very clean car that provides solid transportation. I keep the car in a garage and it gets washed weekly. Please do not expect a showroom, museum quality vehicle, as it is not a perfect vehicle and has been rebuilt.

In my photos, I have tried my best to capture the flaws. If you have no intentions of buying the car or if you are trying to raise money to buying the car or if you have half of the money or if you know you are not going to be able to get on the internet within 48 hours of auction end, please do not bid on this vehicle, as it is not the car for you. I have already had two individuals promise me that the wanted the car and either did not have the money or I heard the story that their wife wouldn't allow them to get the car. Please spare me the drama.

Now for the car: The paint is quite shiny and the car does look good for it's age. It was repainted before I owned the vehicle. The flawed area are the portion of the car on the passengers side that separates the front window from the passenger window. The paint is stating to fade, however, I do have extra paint that was matched to the color of the car. Also the lower valance on the passenger side or the lower portion of the front bumper.....when I purchased the car their was a piece that was missing and the lower portion was cracked. I bought the piece from Mercedes and that lower portion has been sprayed. You will find many cars of this vintage with that portion of the bumper missing or sometimes cracked in the same place. The driver seat has been recovered and looks like new. The passenger seat has no holes or rips in the seat, however their is a slight split in the back portion of the seat as captured in the pictures. The portion of that you sit on is wrinkling but has no holes or tears. There are no holes in the carpet. The portion of the car mat on the drivers side where the Mercedes stamp has some wear. The convertible top is near perfect and has no rips, cuts or holes. The top goes up and down smoothly. I do not have the hardtop for the car. I have a spare rim, but not a spare tire. The air condition and heat work fine. Their is an after-market Kenwood radio in the vehicle. 8 times out of 10, it plays cd's. At times, you have to to push the discs in four of five times to get them to play. The radio works fine. The antenna cover needs replacing. On the drivers door, at times the lock will not respond to the remote, but it generally does on the passenger side. I believe this is due to when the car was stolen, as the driver door panel is a little loose and I believe a couple of clips need replacing. I captured this in the pics, as well. The car starts, runs, drives, shifts, and stops fine. If you are familiar with the R129, you will know that Mercedes has a mechanism to prevent you from trashing the transmission. You do not want to turn the car on and drive off immediately. Allow the unit to warm for a minute and a half to two minutes before driving. There are no cooling issues with the vehicle. When it comes time to change the oil, I purchase Mobil One synthetic oil and a Fram oil filter to facilitate the fluid change.

I do not know who the winning bidder will be, but you should not have any problems driving the car home if you drive or fly into the metro Atlanta area to acquire the vehicle. Again, if you are not serious, please do not waste my time. If you have zero feedback or negative feedback that indicates that you do not pay, I will kick back your bid. The vehicle is for sale locally, and I reserve the right to end the auction early.

I do appreciate you viewing my listing.

Vision Mercedes-Maybach 6 Cabriolet is last year's concept with a soft top

Sat, Aug 19 2017

Last year, Mercedes brought an absurd, excessive two-seat coupe to Pebble Beach called the Vision Mercedes-Maybach 6. We say absurd and excessive because it was a roughly 19-foot long coupe for just two people. It also packed a 750-horsepower electric powertrain. This year, Mercedes brought pretty much the same car, but now with a soft top and the suffix "Cabriolet." Because the Vision Mercedes-Maybach 6 Cabriolet is basically the same car as the coupe, it's also dripping with unashamed excess. It's still 19 feet long, it still carries only two people, and it still has 750 horsepower from electric motors. Mercedes claims that power will propel the car to 60 mph in under 4 seconds. Also like the coupe, it has a range of 200 miles on a charge, and with the right charger, can supposedly regain about 60 miles in 5 minutes. There are changes to the car, though. For one, it's painted a different color. Instead of the vibrant red of the coupe, the roadster is a navy blue that Mercedes says helps evoke the feeling of a yacht — more so than the size already did. It also has new wheels with a more conventional multi-spoke look. They're also have rose gold-painted accents. The change to a convertible body style alters the appearance of the Mercedes-Maybach 6 more than you'd expect, too. Now that a significant portion of the vehicle is finished in a contrasting color, the car looks a bit shorter, in a good way. It doesn't look cumbersome. The lack of a fastback also helps keep the tail from looking like it's sagging, as it does on the coupe. The interior of the Vision Mercedes-Maybach 6 Cabriolet is mostly the same as the coupe, too. It features the same white leather seats that blend into the doors and dashboard. It also has the wild wraparound display and clear center tunnel with light tubes that show the flow of electricity to the motors. Metal highlights are finished in rose gold hue, as is the stitching. The differences include more prominent shapes that imply air vents, as well as a wood floor with aluminum strips to complete the yacht feeling. Also, the buttons that dot the seats have Mercedes logos on them, and they're backlit. We also get a peak under the hood of the Mercedes-Maybach 6 Cabriolet. It opens up like pre-war cars with two panels connected by a center hinge. Because it uses compact electric motors and underfloor batteries, there's storage space under the hood.

Range Rover versus Mercedes-Benz: Which makes a more appealing SUV?

Mon, Aug 14 2017

From time to time — truth be told, all the time — the Autoblog staff enjoys a good debate on the merits and demerits of the cars and trucks we drive each week. This week, we spent some time in a brand-new Land Rover Range Rover Supercharged SUV, a model some of us think sits at the pinnacle of the luxury utility vehicle segment. Others disagree. The following is a real-life online debate that took place over the course of a few hours. Have a read, and feel free to take sides. There's a poll at the end so you can make your voice heard. Consumer Editor Jeremy Korzeniewski: Strange as it may sound, Jeremy Clarkson and I have a few things in common, most obvious of which is that we share a given name. But we also both love cars so much that we decided to turn our automotive passion into a career — with varying degrees of success, of course — and we both have come to realize over time that there's no point in trying to topple the Land Rover Range Rover as the world's best luxury off-road utility vehicle. Thing is, this universal truth isn't quite as universally shared as I think it should be. In fact, my esteemed colleague Alex Kierstein believes that Mercedes-Benz makes the most desirable four-wheel-drive off-road vehicles. He's clearly wrong, but I feel obligated to let him explain his choice, though it won't go without a rebuttal. Senior Editor Alex Kierstein: That's correct, and so am I in this regard. I'm sorry, Jeremy, but it's an irrefutable fact that Mercedes-Benz is doing the best interiors in the business now. And the interior is where you're going to spend most of your time, at least when the thing's running. The Range Rover's interior simply isn't as special, and frankly it'll be in the shop enough that you won't enjoy it. Now, stepping into pretty much any contemporary Mercedes sedan interior is a "wow" moment. They seem special — posh, exclusive, luxurious. The SUVs, all older vehicles coming due for total redesigns at some point in the future, are lagging a bit, but it's still a premium and upscale experience. Especially since performance is almost academic at this point. Anything in this class is going to be powerful, almost absurdly so. So why not go for the one that makes you feel like royalty, rather than your mechanic? JK: I just want to point out that it was you who brought reliability into this discussion.

Recharge Wrap-up: 2015 Honda CR-Z now on sale, Daimler and Linde building hydrogen stations in Germany

Fri, Oct 10 2014

The 2015 Honda CR-Z hybrid is now available at dealerships, for slightly more money. The CR-Z starts at an MSRP of $20,145 (plus $790 in destination charges), up from the $19,995 price of the 2014 model. For those who don't want to row their own gears with the six-speed manual transmission, the available CVT adds an extra $650 to the price, but also offers better fuel economy, especially in the city. The manual-equipped CR-Z gets 31 mpg city/38 highway/34 combined, while the CVT version is rated at 36/39/37 mpg. The 1.5-liter engine and electric motor provide a combined peak 130 horsepower. The manual CR-Z offers 140 pound-feet of torque, with the CVT version providing 127 pound-feet. Customers can also soup up their new CR-Z with upgrades (including a supercharger) from Honda Performance Development. Learn more in the press release below. Daimler and Linde are teaming up to build hydrogen fueling stations in Germany. The automaker and gases and engineering company, with the help of a few oil and gas companies, plan to install 13 new stations by the end of 2015. The installations precede a push by Daimler to get more fuel cell vehicles on the road. "From 2017, we are planning to bring competitively priced fuel-cell vehicles to market," says Daimler's Herbert Kohler. "So now is the time to build a nationwide fuelling infrastructure." Linde will supply the stations with fully renewable hydrogen. Read more in the press release below. In 1899, an EV set a world landspeed record, and Wired has revisited the story with a nice look back at the "La Jamais Contente" and its driver, Belgian engineer Camille Jenatzy. Jenatzy built an electric car to race in a hillclimb, which he won while clocking a top speed of 17 miles per hour (measured the old-timey way - without radar guns). Just a few weeks later, another man set a landspeed record of 32 miles per hour, beginning a back-and-forth series of setting new records. Then, on April 29, 1899, "The Red Devil," as Jenatzy became known as, surpassed 100 kph (62 mph) when his torpedo-shaped electric car set a record of 65.8 mph. It was powered by two 25-kilowatt electric motors. Read the whole story over at Wired.
