2003 Mercedes-benz Sl55 Amg Kompressor Convertible 2-door 5.5l on 2040-cars
West Jordan, Utah, United States
A piece of automotive history! Jeremy Clarkson, Steve Jobs, and Michael Jordan have all owned one of these. Simply one of Mercedes best! This SL55 is spectacular. I have owned it for 4 years or so. I've babied it, never winter driven, and always kept up on maintenance and repairs. I am a Master-Certified mechanic and I own and operate a high-end automotive repair facility (do a web search for Integrity First Automotive in West Jordan, Utah). I am not and never have been a dealer and this car is my personal car. In my ownership I have (of course) kept the maintenance current. It has been stored in winters and this spring we just completed replacing both batteries, the driver's headlight ignitor, and a headlight washer. Just today we performed an oil and filter service (using the recommend Mobil 1 oil of course). Other service in my ownership include: fuel pump and filter, drive belts, trans fluid and filter service, rear brakes (pads and rotors), active body control (ABC) system fluid flush and filter change (VERY important for MB ABC cars), filters, oil changes, etc. I have owned this car for the last 20k miles or so. I bought it from a local used car dealer here in Utah - he claims it came from Walnut Creek CA. The pictures should do the talking - it is very, very nice. There is the odd stone chip here and there in the paint but very few - a couple have been touched up on the driver's fender. I dare-not say there are no scratches or dents but if they are there they are very hard to see - the body and paintwork is a 9+ on a 1-10 scale. The dr's seat is more worn than the passenger's and the trunk sometimes has to be slammed to close correctly. Tires are getting lower on tread but ok for now. Brakes all around are good. Engine runs like a top - as you can see in the picts the computer has no errors. Updated NAV discs included. Also included the silly cupholder for the passenger side and some netting things for cargo / I have the original manual too. I have three keys: two physical keys and an active/working keyless-go card for your wallet. Keyless-Go works great (of course). Windshield is still original. Everything performs as it should. It has never been abused / in fact I rarely use it - hence the sale (as you can see in the picts the registration expired in February but I haven't re-registered it because I haven't driven it). It was never involved in any accidents during my ownership. The autocheck report suggests that it had a minor accident before I owned it - I cannot see any evidence of this and I am a master-mechanic / I can see bodywork. The bumpers are original MB bumpers, the panels all look original, the paint is beautiful, etc, etc. If it had work done it was done very well. I'll be sad to see to go but I just don't use it and can't justify keeping it. You will absolutely love it. Local bidders are welcome to see it if an appointment is pre-arranged.

Jalopnik and Consumer Reports see who can pull off the best snow drift
Fri, Feb 20 2015The weather throughout much of the United States is pretty awful at the moment with some combination of extremely low temperatures, inches of snow and maybe some ice underneath it all. The folks at Jalopnik and Consumer Reports are making the absolute best out of a difficult situation by heading to CR's snow-covered test track and attempting to make the longest drift in a quartet of very different performance vehicles. Jalopnik brought along a Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG S Wagon, a Subaru WRX STI, a BMW 228i and a 1973 Volkswagen Baja Bug (heck yeah!) for the challenge. Also, the track was perfect for this group, with a mix of packed snow in places and still a few inches of unsullied powder in spots too. Ostensibly the goal was to get the tail to step out through a particular corner, but in reality this was more about having hilarious fun in the snow with fast cars. The result just looks like the best time humanly possible in this weather.
Race Recap: 2015 Hungarian Grand Prix is Magyar for 'What a race!'
Mon, Jul 27 2015Every driver on the Formula 1 grid dreams of taking home the silverware, but only one driver each year can do it. Barring disaster in 2015 it looks like it's going to be Lewis Hamilton. The Brit has been so dominating at the front of the grid on Saturday, we can't see how he'll miss out on winning the second annual FIA Pole Position Trophy. That's the accolade introduced last season in another manufactured attempt to give drivers something to work for on Saturday, since the FIA felt leading into the first corner didn't have the pull it used to. Hamilton took his ninth pole of the season in Hungary for Mercedes-AMG Petronas with a crushing lap that put him almost six tenths ahead of his teammate Nico Rosberg in second. All Hamilton needs is one more spot at the top of the grid this season, and he's the Pole Position trophy winner. Thrilling stuff. Behind Rosberg the gaps stayed smaller, Sebastian Vettel in the Ferrari a little more than a tenth behind Rosberg, Daniel Ricciardo in the Infiniti Red Bull Racing less than four one-hundredths behind Vettel. We feel almost as vexed watching Kimi Raikkonen as he feels driving – he's finally got a good Ferrari, now he can't get a good weekend. The front wing broke on his car in Free Practice 1, then a water leak in Free Practice 3 robbed him of setup time on the soft tire. He lines up in fifth about two tenths behind Ricciardo. The slow, tight Hungaroring didn't agree with the Williams chassis, Valtteri Bottas the first of the Grove team drivers in sixth, his teammate Felipe Massa two places back. Between them is Daniil Kvyat in the second Red Bull in seventh. Teenager Max Verstappen put in a good showing in the Toro Rosso to grab ninth, while Romain Grosjean in a wriggling, squishy, sliding Lotus classified his appearance in Q3 at all as "a miracle." As for the race that followed, we don't expect to see another like it for a long time – it was the real thrilling stuff, one shock after another. The drama began after the first parade lap, when Felipe Massa lined up out of position and the start was aborted. The drivers did another parade lap, then lined up with everyone in place. Mercedes got swamped as soon as the lights went out. Vettel ran around both of them and led the race into the first turn, Raikkonen had come from fifth to third by Turn 1, then got the inside line on Rosberg through Turn 2 to take second place.
The BMW M8 leads this month's list of discounts
Mon, Sep 21 2020Back in June of this year, the BMW 8 Series was the most heavily discounted vehicle in America. This month, it's the 617-horsepower M8. Midsummer buyers of the 2020 BMW M8, which is offered in hardtop, convertible and four-door Gran Coupe bodystyles, were seeing an average of $6,150 cut off the sticker; this month that figure has ballooned all the way to $16,864. That's more than 11% off the car's $150,000-plus retail price, and, according to data provided by TrueCar, it's the largest dollar amount sliced off the retail price of any car for the month of September. Next is the Maserati Quattroporte, buyers of which are saving $15,912 for an average transaction price of $99,763. If that's still too expensive, the smaller Ghibli's $70,030 average transaction price represents a huge 14.5% discount, earning the Italian sedan entry into our monthly top 10 best deals list. The third largest monetary discount in September comes off the $131,066 sticker price of the lovely 2019 Mercedes-AMG GT. Take $15,473 off that sum for an average transaction price of $115,593.
