2002 Mercedes SL500 Limited Edition Silver Arrow

The SL 500 Silver Arrow Edition received a host of special equipment updates over the standard SL, and the design many feel was the best era for Mercedes reliability. Each of these limited production SL 500's were finished in Silver Arrow metallic paint, had fully-lined soft top; brushed aluminum instrument cluster with chrome bezels; aluminum trim on the wind deflector, shift gate, pedals, grille and trunk lid. In addition, unique new two piece, six-spoke 18-inch alloy wheels with 245/45ZR18 and 275/35ZR18-inch tires front and rear; factory-drilled brake rotors front and rear; Xenon high-intensity gas discharge headlights and a six-disc CD Changer in trunk. The interior of the Silver Arrow SL500s included two-tone leather upholstery in silver and black for both seats and door panels and leather-trimmed steering wheel and shift knob. 1400 Silver Arrows were produced to commemorate Mercedes racing successes of their late 1930's era Grand Prix cars. This was the last version of the venerable R129 series SL platform has the 305HP 347 pound feet of torque 24 valve V8. They are wonderful to drive and are extremely reliable.

This is a very nice and original SL with all original equipment, all works, no malfunctions, engines runs smooth, convertible top deploys flawless. All power option work, nothing broken, this car has been well taken care off. The interior is in flawless condition, the leather is clean and soft with absolutely no rips or tears. This is a nice collector vehicle. The only one with a special order silver rug-top!

Does Alex Rodriguez' Mercedes dealership have a PR problem?

Alex Rodriguez, in case you haven't heard, is seemingly the new Most Hated Man In Baseball, ostensibly replacing commissioner Bud Selig (for now). Rodriguez was slammed with a 211-game suspension due to his role in the MLB's latest steroid scandal in which "A-Roid," as fans have taken to calling the former superstar, was cited with steroid use and attempts to hide his involvement by "engaging in a course of conduct intended to obstruct and frustrate" the investigation, according to the MLB's official report.
Why is this on a car site, then? Because Rodriguez' name is attached Alex Rodriguez Mercedes-Benz in League City, TX. An Ad Age report cites Mercedes-Benz USA in saying that A-Rod owns "about half'" of the dealership. Mercedes, for what it's worth, isn't going to any to any lengths to distance itself from its dealership or its controversial namesake, saying, "We never promoted the fact that A-Rod owned a dealership, so there's really nothing to 'distance' ourselves from. And since his activity is not illegal but rather prohibited by MLB, there's nothing actionable here."
With the scandal still a fresh piece of news and A-Rod's pending appeal, it's difficult to tell what sort of effect, if any, his name will have on the dealership's sales. Ad Age contacted the GM of Alex Rodriguez Mercedes-Benz to get the dealership's view, but no calls were returned. According to Mercedes, any name change is up to Rodriguez and his partner(s) at the dealership. Somehow, though, we think A-Rod has other things to worry about beyond his dealership's name.

Mercedes-Benz Concept GLA gets official ahead of Shanghai

Mercedes-Benz has something special planned for the Shanghai Motor Show - a new CUV concept that we first saw when it leaked on the internet yesterday. The GLA Concept compact crossover will hit the show stand with a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine producing 208 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque mated to a seven-speed dual clutch transmission and 4Matic all-wheel drive, and likely previews a new production model that we've already spotted testing.
That's not news, but the laser-based headlamps with video-projecting capability certainly are. Mercedes-Benz says the array can project any image or video onto a screen, which is handy since there are a pair of HD cameras mounted to the roof rack. The cameras can be removed and taken with you on all sorts of adventures. The lamps also feature a visible cooling system comprised of a series of fans, and the system helps give the headlights their "sparkle" effect.
Step indoors and the GLA offers up the interior of a high-quality crossover, complete with contrasting leather and plenty of aluminum. The automaker says the cabin was inspired by saddle craftsmanship with "more than 65 feet of hand-stitched seams to hold the raw edges of the leather together."
