1994 Mercedes Sl 320 on 2040-cars
Barnegat, New Jersey, United States
For personal reasons and having nothing to do with the serviceability of this car; it is time to sell my SL 320 Mercedes; two-seater roadster. This luxury roadster is both elegant and comfortable. The made date is 11/93 on the plate and it will soon be a classic car. To the best of my knowledge it has all Mercedes parts as I have been told by last owner with the exception of the battery that I changed with a non-Mercedes battery (I have since use a trickle charger since I only drive it on nice days; lesson learned from not plugging it in thru a 2nd winter previous Mercedes battery went dead). I am the fourth owner (#3 prefix on my title) and for the last 4+ years the car has been garage kept and only driven on bluebird days. This car is in exceptionally nice condition and is obviously noticed everywhere it is driven. I looked long and hard for a future classic in impeccable condition for over a year to as close to show room condition as possible. I do not see any evidence that this car has ever been smoked in but who would know for sure what a first owners habits were. The ash tray and lighter are completely clean. I have only added about 2,000 miles to the odometer since I have purchased it. Current odometer reading is less than 106,000 miles. Here are some things that you may find of interest/important or at least I would/did. And, by all means ask any additional questions you may have. I had this car, CARFAX’ed before I purchased it in September 2009. The report states that there are no previous or derogatory issues with this car. That is no, airbag deployment, odometer rollback, accident damage, manufacturer recalls, salvage, water damage or not actual mileage. Also no damage, odometer or lemon history according to the CARFAX. And, I will make this report available to you. Accordingly, this car has a clean history and I have a clear title. And, to the best of my knowledge; the car has all its original paint and has had no body repairs. The car has a few minor scratches here and there but no major scratches and no pushed in indentations in the body. I purchased it with a small crack in the lower plastic front wind flare (as best as I can describe) (hard to notice until you get on your hands and knees to clean the car). What you see in the pictures is a car that has been washed and waxed but never detailed since I have owned it. The tires 225/55VR16s were replaced at 99,522 miles Sept. 2008 by the last owner. The tires therefore have less than 7,000 miles on them. I had the tires rebalanced and the car realigned when I first purchased it at 103,000 miles, less than 2,000 miles ago. Oct 2009 I had all the belts and balancer replaced at 104,451 miles, May 2010 Mercedes parts. I have all the synthetic oil, and oil filter replaced and all fluid levels checked at 104,841 miles, Nov 3, 2010 I have all the transmission fluid and filter replaced at 104,854 miles, Nov 10, 2010 Mercedes parts. New battery 105,070 miles, Sept 2011 Original dealer’s manual in pristine condition & roadside tool kit with car. And maintenance documents above will be made available. The trunk carpeting looks virtually brand new (no stains what so ever). I have not cleaned the interior carpeting in 4 years so you may find some dirty spots. The engine compartment is clean, however not so clean I would be eating off it. All hoses are solid and pliable, (not dry rotted at all) as they should. I have never washed the engine compartment, what you see is how I purchased it with 4 years of dust. The previous owner told me that he garage kept the car and I have no cause to doubt him. History shows that he purchased the car in May of 2007 at 93,600 miles therefore registering a mere 10,000 miles in the three years that he owned the car. The previous owner also told me that he replaced the rag top and I can tell you that it looks not only brand-new but also works perfectly! Right after the pictures were taken the car was driven and it runs like a fine Swiss watch. It has excellent+ acceleration and tremendous stopping power from all speeds. It stops straight and the alignment is fine. The car idles and drives quietly and smoothly without any vibrations. From mypersonal perspective, you can feel the weight of the car (4300lbs) and it is amazing its road hugging ability. Basically this car has been a child to me and I have never parked it and left it out of my sight. The original MSRP on this car was about $85,200. I would prefer that any future owner come out by appointment and look at this car and I will take you for a ride so you can see for yourself what you were buying. We can test all features to your satisfaction together. This car is being sold in as is condition. If you are not local be advised that I will not take on the responsibility of shipping this car anywhere. Nor will I be responsible for the condition of the car upon arrival at your destination. Meaning if you are not satisfied for any reason or if you say something was not disclosed that should have been or that now something is not working that was said to work or you misinterpreted something here it will not be a basis for terminating the sale or adjusting the sale price. Please make all efforts to come see this car for yourself before placing a bid! I will accept Paypal for the deposit of $250, but the balance is due upon pick up in cash or money order. I have over 100 additional pictures of this car and I can e-mail them to you at your request. I can also take some additional pictures of specific areas that are of interest to you. One last thing please do not try to sell me that this car is worth XX dollars based upon some book appraisal. Just try to find a 1994 SL 320 alone in this condition (Paint, body, mileage), and without some sort of restoration. Not to mention having a solid engine, transmission, great brakes and tires. Thank you for your patience read and consideration. |

The Mansory Speranza proves that money can buy taste and good sense...
Tue, 05 Mar 2013...Just kidding.
No one in their right mind has ever accused German tuners Mansory of being subtle. So, when our Geneva team wandered across the Mansory Speranza - A Mercedes-Benz Gelandewagen that has been denuded of its roof and spackled inside with quilted leather and red carbon fiber - they didn't ask a lot of existential questions. Why does the Speranza exist? Because Germans are weird sometimes, that's why.
Forget for a moment that you'll have to pay Mansory hundreds of thousands of euros (we're guessing, no pricing information has been revealed) for the privilege of converting your G-Class into something that looks like a Suzuki Samurai, and prepare to be impressed by the details. The tuning house has increased the output of the Mercedes V8 to a healthy 700 horsepower and 668 pound-feet of torque. The wheels are 24-inches, and wear almost unbelievable 305-section ultra-high performance Vresdestein tires. Carbon fiber can be found nearly everywhere one looks, including making up the housing for the spare tire. Oh, and there are leather pillows for the backseats... no word on whether they're standard or optional, but we're looking in to it.
Weekly Recap: Automakers rethink the definition of luxury
Sat, Jan 17 2015Variety is the spice of life, but it's becoming a prerequisite for luxury carmakers in the ultra-competitive US market. The Detroit Auto Show was strong evidence of this reality. It's not enough to offer attractive and well-appointed cars and SUVs anymore. Luxury brands that want to be competitive need to invest in everything from high-powered supercars to clever hybrids. To be relevant, you need to be green and mean – and everything in between. As General Motors product chief Mark Reuss said after the reveal of the 640-horsepower Cadillac CTS-V: "We are not leaving anything on the table." He was speaking for Cadillac, but he might as well have been speaking for the luxury car market. The CTS-V debuted in Detroit about an hour after Lexus surprised showgoers with the reveal of the RC F GT3 race car and then announced ambitious plans to return to competitive racing. That almost overshadowed the fact Lexus had just revealed another potent addition to its growing F line, the 467-hp GS F. View 20 Photos But for luxury brands, it's not just about maximum horsepower for well-heeled enthusiasts or decadent amenities for the Grey Poupon set. Strong competition from all corners has forced automakers to refine and expand their lineups in ways unforeseen even a few years ago. Case in point: Mercedes-Benz finally has an answer to the BMW X6, rolling out the GLE coupe in Detroit. The X6, which blends coupe-like styling cues with some of the functionality of an SUV, debuted in 2008. Back then it was a punchline, but seven years and more than 260,000 sales later, the X6's success has compelled Benz to respond. Mercedes – one of the strongest proponents of diesel technology – also debuted the C350 plug-in hybrid sedan, which promises a range of 20 miles on electricity, though fuel economy figures were not announced. The car pairs Mercedes' well-received 208-hp turbocharged four-cylinder with an electric motor for total output of 275 hp and 443 pound-feet of torque. Meanwhile, Infiniti will add the Q30 hatchback to its lineup by the end of the year, new president Roland Kruger reiterated in Detroit. It's expected to be joined by a crossover variant, and the additions will help strengthen Infiniti in the United States and abroad. "While we're expanding our product line, we're also expanding our market reach," he said. That's something echoed by Jaguar executives, who are preparing to launch the brand's first crossover, the F-Pace, in 2016.
Genesis cars win accolades, offer value — so why are sales so bad?
Tue, Jul 31 2018My high-school buddy Brent Cormier was so smitten with the Genesis G80 when he saw it at an event I hosted at SXSW in 2016 he bought a used 2013 Hyundai Genesis a short time later and fell in love with the car. "It surpasses my every expectation," said Cormier, a self-described "renaissance man" who owns and runs a real estate agency with his wife Laura, is a food service executive chef and part owner of Austin-based Thin the Herd Guitars. "I was locked into Mercedes and Audi for 10 years," he added. "And felt trapped in an endless pit of maintenance costs." After owning the Genesis over the past two years — including using it as an Uber and Lyft driver to earn extra cash — Cormier learned what some frugal luxury sedan buyers and a handful of car reviewers have discovered: Genesis offers great bang for the buck compared to other premium brands and can compete with the best in terms of performance, features and comfort. Hyundai's luxury brand also earned a prominent third-party endorsement last week when for the first time Genesis topped J.D. Power's 2018 APEAL study, surpassing German luxury-performance icon Porsche. The APEAL study (which stands for Automotive Performance, Execution and Layout) "measures owners' emotional attachment and level of excitement across 77 attributes," ranging from performance to comfort, and asks nearly 68,000 owners of new 2018 models to score vehicles on a 1,000-point scale. In its second year ranked as a stand-alone brand, Genesis earned an APEAL score that bumped it up 15 points to 884 and helped push it past Porsche — and past BMW, Lincoln, Mercedes-Benz, Audi, Volvo, Cadillac, Land Rover and Lexus, in order of ranking. Last month, Genesis also topped J.D. Power's Initial Quality Survey (IQS) for the first time this year. And both its models were awarded Top Safety Pick Plus ratings by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, among 11 Plus ratings in all for Korean vehicles. Despite high J.D. Power rankings and great reviews, Genesis U.S. sales were off 50 percent for the first six months of 2018 compared to 2017, and in June Genesis sold only 796 vehicles — the first time U.S. numbers dropped below 1,000 in a month. Part of Genesis's APEAL and IQS success can be attributed to its small product lineup: just two models, the G80 and G90 sedans, with a third, the 2019 G70, launching later this year. And while those numbers may help in J.D.
