See the seller's listing for full details and description of any imperfections.Seller Notes:"Overall good condition. Excellent mechanically. Exterior could use some limited cosmetic work. Interior in good condition for age."

Over $6,000 recently invested to bring mechanicals up to superb, trouble-free condition including chain rails (all receipts available).  Mercedes-accredited technicians have performed almost all work throughout the car's entire life in Florida, Alabama and Georgia.  Clean Carfax.  No leaks, ice-cold air.  All gauges and clock work, athough radio antenna has usual SL issue of not retracting.  Brand-new Michelins and professionally reconditioned original wheels.  Low miles for the year:  95,401 miles believed to be authentic. Black pearl paint with desirable light gray original interior and carpets.  Interior in good condition for the age.  Wood shifter console recently refinished.  This two-owner Southern car has the optional rear seat.  Radio with CD player was added by last owner, but original Becker radio goes with the car.  First owner was in 80s when he traded car at a dealer, and maintenance book shows he had Mercedes dealers in Florida do all scheduled maintenance through 75,000 miles.  Navy soft top in good condition with no rips or tears or loose stitching, although some limited discoloring in interior above side windows.  Plastic windows are crystal-clear with no yellowing or cracking.  Hardtop and stand come with the car.  Hardtop paint and glass are excellent, with some discoloring on interior.  Hard top trim pieces beneath rear window have some cracking and have slightly pulled away from frame in some areas (Florida sun?).  Car had a professional respray in original color sometime in its history.  Although great-looking from 6', paint could use some refreshing to address a few areas of clearcoat cloudiness.  Nice condition for its age, but exterior has the usual minor nicks here and there, as well as three small areas of surface rust (see pictures).  Overall, this is a beautiful example of the last year of the 107 body style and could be reliably driven daily if desired.  I would be glad to answer any questions you might have.  I love the car, but will be moving in a few weeks and it is just not practical to move three cars.  Low, priced to sell reserve makes this a great opportunity for someone that wants a solid, good-looking SL that can be used as a daily driver or easily upgraded to an exceptional example of this desirable year vehicle.

Race Recap: 2013 Japanese Grand Prix flips several scripts [spoilers]

Mon, 14 Oct 2013

Japan's Suzuka circuit is a great track that all the drivers love, but it doesn't usually provide the most thrilling, head-to-head racing. Where it does excel, however, is with surprises and "What just happened there?!" moments, and this year it was no different.
It started with Mark Webber in his Infiniti Red Bull Racing out-qualifying his teammate Sebastian Vettel for the first time this year. They were followed closely by Lewis Hamilton in the first Mercedes-AMG Petronas, the still-solid Romain Grosjean again outdoing teammate Kimi Räikkönen, Felipe Massa racing for another seat in Formula One and putting his Ferrari in fifth, then Nico Rosberg in the second Mercedes, Nico Hülkenberg in the first Sauber, Fernando Alonso in the second Ferrari, and Räikkönen continuing to do himself no favors by qualifying tenth.
For the second year in a row, the lights going out was the cue to start the first corner action...

Firing of M-B boss upheld

Mon, 15 Jul 2013

Ernst Lieb, the disgraced former CEO of American operations for Mercedes-Benz, will not be getting any more money from the Silver Arrow'd teat. His wrongful dismissal suit against MB's parent company, Daimler, was tossed out of a German appeals panel. This, followed the initial rejection by a lower court last year.
According to court documents acquired by Automotive News, Lieb was found to have "accepted payments of substantial value to which he - as he was aware - had no claim."
Lieb took over American operations from former CEO Paul Halata in September of 2006. Reports surfaced in October of 2011 that Lieb was dismissed from his posting at MB, with a variety of rumors swirling. Eventually, news broke that financial wrong doing was responsible for the German's firing.

Why we can't have better headlights here in the U.S.

Tue, Mar 13 2018

It wouldn't be a European auto show if we weren't teased with at least one mainstream vehicle we can't have here. At the Geneva Motor Show last week, the small but vocal contingent of shooting-brake buffs lamented that the Mazda6 wagon won't be coming to our shores, although they can take comfort in the fact that the vehicle won't get the torquey 250-horsepower 2.5-liter turbocharged gasoline engine we'll get here. Mercedes-Benz also announced a new headlight technology in Geneva that likely won't be available here anytime soon. It's just the latest in a long line of innovative and potentially lifesaving front-lighting solutions that the federal government doesn't allow in this country due to outdated standards — and a current lack of leadership at the U.S. Department of Transportation. Mercedes-Benz's new Digital Light system that debuted in Geneva uses a computer chip to activate more than a million micro-reflectors to better illuminate the road ahead. The Digital Light headlamps works with the vehicle's cameras, sensors and navigation mapping to adjust lighting for the given location and situation and to detect other road users. The Digital Light technology also serves as an extended head-up display of sorts by projecting symbols on the pavement ahead to alert drivers to, say, slippery conditions or pedestrians in the road. And it can even project lines on the road in a construction zone or through tight curves to show the driver the correct path. Digital Light will be available on Mercedes-Maybach vehicles later this year, although like any technology it's bound to trickle down to less expensive vehicles. That is, if we ever get it here in the U.S. Audi, a leader in automotive lighting, has repeatedly run into snags trying to bring state-of-the-art car headlights to the U.S. The German luxury automaker's recently introduced matrix laser headlight system, which performs many of the same trick as Mercedes-Benz's Digital Light, also isn't legal on U.S. roads. And five years after the introduction of its matrix-beam LED lighting, which illuminates more of the road without blinding oncoming motorists with brights by simultaneously operating high and low beams, Audi still can't bring that technology to the U.S. either.
