1981 Mercedes Benz 380 Sl Roadster on 2040-cars
Fort Lauderdale, Florida, United States
Buyer to provide 10% Deposit via Cashiers Check and balance prior to pick up in Ft Lauderdale. I purchased this car in Jan 2006. All indications are that it's always been a south Florida car. I have some of the previous owners records and all of mine. The mileage was 156,820 at the time and I have no reason to believe that this was not accurate. The current reading is 158,911 and the odometer has not been working for a while. The actual mileage is less than 160,000. I drive it once or twice a month to work which is 28 miles round trip. The car is a driver , not a show car, but has the potential with some TLC. I love the car and the attention it draws but don't have the time to bring it 100%. The tires are 2 Perellies and 2 Goodyear and are in excellent condition. The original hardtop has been in storage since I had the car painted shortly after I purchased it. It does need a new headliner. Since I have owned the car I have completed the following: painted the original black color with clear coat; new German canvas roof with all new weather stripping; complete tune-up; new brakes and lines; all new carpeting in the interior compartment, the trunk carpeting was going to be my next appearance project; new leather in the rear seat area including the boot; the rest of the leather is in great shape; the dash board overlay is cracked and has a removable custom piece of carpet covering it; new real zebra wood for the console; new window control buttons; new Sony AM/FM CD player with removable face plate and a new power antenna; new fuel pump and lines; new die hard battery; new tie-rods. There is a small dent in the front bumper and a couple in the rear bumper. There is a little rust along the trunk line and the panel adjacent to the trunk. The windshield has a few nicks and scratches, not uncommon for a 34 year old car. The trunk paint has faded. It is missing both sun visors and 1 map pocket. The windshield washers and cruise control do not work. The transmission whines a little when it shifts. The HVAC system does not work in all positions and the AC needs recharging. It has a small leak that I have not investigated.

Meet Buster, this 1968 Porsche racecar transporter from Mercedes
Thu, Dec 11 2014If you're thinking about Porsche and Mercedes-Benz when it comes to motorsports, your first thought is probably on the two German brands battling on the track. However, for decades, whenever Porsche's factory team went to compete, a custom Mercedes was right along with them hauling the racecars. These days the truck lives in the Brumos Collection in Jacksonville, FL, and goes by the nickname Buster. However, its story goes back to 1968 when Porsche ordered two commercial vehicles from Mercedes and then handed them over to a Stuttgart-based outfitter for customization. The results were these racing transporters that hauled models like the 917 and 956 until the '80s. The other survived, too, with a place in Porsche's collection. Well-known racers in their own right, Brumos scooped up the transporter in 2003 and have kept driving it to vintage racing events. The interior now boasts the signatures of many of the great drivers from the era of this historic truck. Watch the video for the whole story on the Mercedes with a whole lot of Porsche inside.
Mercedes considering GLA-based crossover coupe
Wed, 30 Apr 2014BMW opened a whole Pandora's Box when it introduced the X6 back in 2008. Sure it made little sense, sacrificing all that "utility" for a little more "sport," but it's been a solid success for BMW - especially considering the nominal expense it cost to develop the X6 on top of the X5 on which it's based. Little wonder that, while BMW has already followed up with a smaller version in the form of the X4, other automakers are starting to catch up. And that includes Mercedes-Benz.
The German automaker is preparing to launch a new MLC, based on the M-Class but with a sportier silhouette, and previewed it with the Concept Coupe SUV at the Beijing Motor Show. But that's just the start, according to the latest report from Automotive News Europe.
Mercedes is reportedly considering spinning off an entire line of crossovers more for use on the road than off it. Which may go without saying for most crossovers on the market, but considering the Geländwagen with which Mercedes got its start in SUVs, would mean an even further departure than it has undertaken already.
2015 Italian Grand Prix is smoke, mirrors, stalls, and stewards
Mon, Sep 7 2015For the first day-and-a-half of the Italian Formula One Grand Prix weekend, everything went to blueprint: Mercedes in front, Ferrari lurking, everyone else scrambling in their usual orders behind. Then qualifying came, and someone stirred the pot. About the only thing we expected was for Lewis Hamilton to put his Mercedes-AMG Petronas on pole position, the 11th time he's done it this year. He did it with a brand-new specification engine, one that represents not only an evolution in components, but also in power unit philosophy. Kimi Raikkonen lines up in second. It's been a long time since we read those words; the Iceman hasn't been on the first row since the 2013 Chinese Grand Prix, when he put his Lotus second on the grid behind... Lewis Hamilton. Raikkonen lined up just ahead of a Ferrari at that China race, then driven by Fernando Alonso. In Italy this weekend, he lined up in front of the Ferrari driven by his teammate, Sebastian Vettel, who qualified third. Both Ferraris benefitted from an upgraded power unit, ending a front-row drought for the scuderia that goes all the way back to Monaco in 2009 Germany in 2012. Nico Rosberg has a lot of work to do from fourth in the second Mercedes-AMG Petronas. Mercedes discovered a problem with Rosberg's engine but couldn't figure out the cause, so he reverted to the previous-spec engine he used in Belgium, one that's six races old. The lack of power hurt. Williams teammates Felipe Massa and Valtteri Bottas took fifth and sixth, with Massa seemingly given a team-ordered helping hand. Williams told Bottas to tow Massa down the front straight, giving Massa a blistering time in the first sector. Then Bottas did it again, ensuring he would line up behind Massa. The first Sahara Force India of Sergio Perez nabbed seventh, three places ahead of teammate Nico Hulkenberg in tenth, with Romain Grosjean in the Lotus behind Perez in eighth. Marcus Ericsson in the Sauber qualified ninth, but some clumsy driving saw him impede Hulkenberg twice. The stewards penalized Ericsson with a three-place grid penalty and two points on his superlicense, so Hulkenberg inherited ninth and Pastor Maldonado in the second Lotus inherited tenth. We hardly saw Hamilton during the race, because he led from the start, worked up a larger gap to second place on every lap, and didn't give up the lead for the whole event.
