1980 MERCEDES BENZ 450 SL.  ORIGINAL PAINT AND INTERIOR. THIS ROADSTER HAS BOTH THE CONVERTIBLE TOP AND THE HARDTOP.  THIS AUTOMOBILE HAS THE 4.5 LITER FUEL INJECTED V-8 ENGINE, 3 SPEED AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION,   4 WHEEL DISC BRAKES, AUTOMATIC CLIMATE CONTROL, AND DECKER CASSETTE/RADIO, .  THIS IS THE LAST YEAR THAT MERCEDES MADE THE 450 SL MODEL. I HAVE NOT HAD THE CAR RUNNING, BUT ANGEL MOLINA OF EUROPEAN AND JAPANESE AUTO REPAIR IN MURRAY, UTAH STATED THAT HE HAD THE CAR RUNNING AND THAT THE TRANSMISSION WAS WORKING CORRECTLY.  HE STATED THAT IT DID NEED A NEW FUEL DISTRIBUTOR, OR HAVE THE ONE ON THE CAR  REBUILT. ALL OF THE GLASS IN THE AUTOMOBILE IS GOOD WITH THE EXCEPTION OF A BB HOLE IN THE REAR WINDOW. I HAVE A CLEAR UTAH TITLE IN MY NAME.  THE RESERVE PRICE ON THIS CAR  IS SIGNIFICANTLY LOWER THAN ITS VALUE.  IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS PLEASE DO NOT HESITATE TO CALL ME.  LARRY 801-699-9290.

I WANT THE NEW OWNER OF THIS AUTOMOBILE TO KNOW EXACTLY WHAT THEY ARE GETTING.  WITH THIS IN MIND, I WANT TO LIST THE NEGATIVE ASPECTS OF THIS AUTOMOBILE.  PLEASE LOOK CLOSELY AT THE PICTURES.

1. RUST- ON HARDTOP UNDER SIDE WINDOW, PASSENGER DOOR ABOVE TRIM, TOP OF PASSENGER FENDER, TRUCK LID, DRIVERS SIDE REAR FENDER.  THIS FENDER HAS ALSO BEEN DAMAGED, AND A POOR JOB ATTEMPTED AT REPAIR. THE FLOOR BOARDS AND ALL UNDER CARRIAGE APPEAR TO BE IN DRY AND IN EXCELLENT CONDITION.
2. THE ORIGINAL LEATHER INTERIOR IS IN POOR CONDITION.
3. THE CONVERTIBLE TOP IS IN TATTERS, BUT ALL OF THE PARTS ARE THERE.  THE HINGE CROSSBOW PARTS HAVE LOST SEVERAL RIVETS, BUT THIS IS NOT CRITICAL.  I WAS ABLE TO RAISE THE TOP WITH A LITTLE DIFFICULTY, BUT IT STORED EASILY.
4. THE SUN VISORS ARE NOT ATTACHED, BUT ARE WITH THE CAR.
PLEASE REMEMBER THAT I HAVE NOT HAD THIS CAR RUNNING, AND IT HAS BEEN SOME TIME SINCE THE CAR HAS BEEN STARTED.  AGAIN LOOK CLOSELY AT THE PICTURES AND IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS PLEASE CALL ME.

I WANT THIS TO BE A GOOD AND STRAIGHT FORWARD AUCTION.  IF YOU HAVE LESS THAN 10 POSITIVE E-BAY REVIEWS, I WOULD ASK THAT YOU PLEASE CONTACT ME BEFORE BIDDING.

Mercedes FWD platform to last until 2018, convertible and two-seater future uncertain

Mon, 22 Jul 2013

Mercedes-Benz seems to be expecting a lot of success from its front-wheel-drive CLA-Class. Automotive News is reporting that the sub-C-Class sedan could grow when its second generation arrives in 2018.
The current FWD platform for MB underpins the CLA, the B-Class, the GLA-Class, and the A-Class. The B-Class will arrive in North America as an EV for spring of 2014, while the production GLA crossover will arrive three to four months after that. The five-door A-Class won't be crossing The Pond. Sad faces all around.
According to AN, another model will be based on the front-drive architecture, but it won't be coming to the US market. Set to arrive next year, rumors are that it'll be a wagon version of the CLA, sort of like the ill-named five-door CLS Shooting Brake that is also a Europe-only item.

Consumer Reports no longer recommends Honda Civic

Mon, Oct 24 2016

Consumer Reports annual Car Reliability Survey is out, and yes, there are some big surprises. First and foremost? The venerable publication no longer recommends the Honda Civic. In fact, aside from the walking-dead CR-Z and limited-release Clarity fuel-cell car, the Civic is the only Honda to miss out on CR's prestigious nod. At the opposite end there's a surprise as well – Toyota and Lexus remain the most reliable brands on the market, but Buick cracked the top three. That's up from seventh last year, and the first time for an American brand to stand on the Consumer Reports podium. Mazda's entire lineup earned Recommended checks as well. Consumer Reports dinged the Civic for its "infuriating" touch-screen radio, lack of driver lumbar adjustability, the limited selection of cars on dealer lots fitted with Honda's popular Sensing system, and the company's decision to offer LaneWatch instead of a full-tilt blind-spot monitoring system. Its score? A lowly 58. The Civic isn't the only surprise drop from CR's Recommended ranks. The Audi A3, Ford F-150, Subaru WRX/STI, and Volkswagen Jetta, GTI, and Passat all lost the Consumer Reports' checkmark. On the flipside, a number of popular vehicles graduated to the Recommended ranks, including the BMW X5, Chevrolet Camaro, Corvette, and Cruze, Hyundai Santa Fe, Porsche Macan, and Tesla Model S. Perhaps the biggest surprise is the hilariously recall-prone Ford Escape getting a Recommended check – considering the popularity of Ford's small crossover, this is likely a coup for the brand, as it puts the Escape on a level playing field with the Recommended Toyota RAV4, Honda CR-V, and Nissan Rogue. While Ford is probably happy to see CR promote the Escape, the list wasn't as kind for every brand. For example, of the entire Fiat Chrysler Automobiles catalog, the ancient Chrysler 300 was the only car to score a check – there wasn't a single Dodge, Fiat, Jeep, Maserati, or Ram on the list. That hurts. FCA isn't alone at the low end, either. GMC, Jaguar Land Rover, Mini, and Mitsubishi don't have a vehicle on CR's list between them, while brands like Mercedes-Benz, Volvo, Nissan, Lincoln, Infiniti, and Cadillac only have a few models each. NHTSA, IIHS, and 20 automakers to make auto braking standard by 2022

Thu, Mar 17 2016

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety and virtually every automaker in the US domestic market have announced a pact to make automatic emergency braking standard by 2022. Here's the full rundown of companies involved: BMW, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, Ford, General Motors, Honda, Hyundai, Jaguar Land Rover, Kia, Mazda, Mercedes-Benz, Mitsubishi, Nissan, Subaru, Tesla, Toyota, Volkswagen, and Volvo (not to mention the brands that fall under each automaker's respective umbrella). Like we reported yesterday, AEB will be as ubiquitous in the future as traction and stability control are today. But the thing to note here is that this is not a governmental mandate. It's truly an agreement between automakers and the government, a fact that NHTSA claims will lead to widespread adoption three years sooner than a formal rule. That fact in itself should prevent up to 28,000 crashes and 12,000 injuries. The agreement will come into effect in two waves. For the majority of vehicles on the road – those with gross vehicle weights below 8,500 pounds – AEB will need to be standard equipment by September 1, 2022. Vehicles between 8,501 and 10,000 pounds will have an extra three years to offer AEB. "It's an exciting time for vehicle safety. By proactively making emergency braking systems standard equipment on their vehicles, these 20 automakers will help prevent thousands of crashes and save lives," said Secretary of Transportation Anthony Foxx said in an official statement. "It's a win for safety and a win for consumers." Read on for the official press release from NHTSA. Automakers making the commitment are Audi, BMW, FCA US LLC, Ford, General Motors, Honda, Hyundai, Jaguar Land Rover, Kia, Maserati, Mazda, Mercedes-Benz, Mitsubishi Motors, Nissan, Porsche, Subaru, Tesla Motors Inc., Toyota, Volkswagen and Volvo Car USA.
