Rare short bumper 1979 Mercedes 280SL gray market with Manual 4 speed transmission in great running condition. This car has been well kept and taken good care of as seen in the body condition etc. It has just under 168k on the miles and is silver with blue interior. I love these old classics but I can not keep everything I have collected over the years as much as I would like to. I have decided also while rates are still low it would be smarter for me to refinance a couple of properties and decrease my outflow (which may allow me to spend more money in the future "chasing classic cars" unless my wife reads this. This car is really in great shape and runs well. The paint is in pretty good shape and very rust free (spending a great deal of time in Arizona and is still an Arizona title). The clutch is solid and feels like a lot of life left in it. No grinding gears. There is a few spots where the clear coat is starting to peel mostly on the upper doors..easy to just point that area above body line (one spot on trunk size of quarter.) Tiny dent on hood...see pic. I have many many pics but will need somewhere to send pics to you. You are welcome to call as well for any questions 8OI647IOI2 anytime. above Tight to drive (does not rattle and shake over every manhole). However it does need either a shock adjustment or repair front passenger the shock bolt moves up and down so I unbolted the coolant tank to temporarily move it over a couple inches so it does not rub or break the coolant tank as seen in pics when it moves up and down. I have not taken the time to do that little repair. There is brand new factory seats (not seat frames) so looks and feels great. Original blue carpets are decent but of course in the drivers area a little rough. It also has a fairly new blue convertible top in great shape. Glass is in good shape as well as trim. Some of the little things that need attention are as follows: passenger door trim needs to be secure (screw came out on one end and is not solid against door.) Couple of dings on the chrome trim corner right behind driver window and passenger window on corner of upright. Dash has cracks and missing basket on one door. Pass visor missing. 1 inch tear in headliner. Under car is pretty solid with no major rust. Pass window struggles to roll up, very slow. I have not confirmed this but was told button/knob for blower fan A/C is not turning it on. Im trying to share any little things so there are no complaints or surprises after the fact. It would actually be easy to have the top 5 inches sanded and sprayed above the pin striping on the doors mainly where clear is peeling and would make a huge difference in overall appearance for very little money or effort and still preserve original paint. Really a nice driver and fun to drive. I know the emblem on the truck says 500SL but someone put that on there in years past but it is a 280SL.

The first trailer for Top Gear's 24th season shows a hands-free drag race
Tue, Dec 27 2016In the excitement over Amazon's new motoring show, it's important to remember that there's a certain series from the BBC that's attempting to get its mojo back for a 24th season. Yes, we're talking about Top Gear. Since Chris Evans' departure earlier this year, Top Gear news has been relatively sparse, particularly as The Grand Tour and its hosts Jeremy Clarkson, James May, and Richard Hammond seized headlines. But on Christmas, watchers of the series' YouTube channel caught a glimpse of the first scene from the next season. Featuring hosts Matt LeBlanc, Chris Harris, and Rory Reid in what looks like a trio of old, dilapidated cars. We're thinking TG is running a taxi comparison. There's a London black cab and a Mercedes-Benz W210 – a favorite of European cabbies – but we aren't sure where Harris' boxy wagon fits in. Did the Volvo 850 Estate ever serve as a livery vehicle? But it's the basis for this comparison that's weird, because the hosts appear to be having a no-hands drag race. The cars veer off in different directions, traveling across what looks like a snow-covered dirt lot. We're assuming hilarity ensues. And while we don't quite know what they're hoping to accomplish, we are looking forward to watching it go down. Top Gear's 24th season doesn't have an official air date, and the video ends only with a cryptic "Coming Soon." Expect to hear more in the next few months.
Recharge Wrap-Up: No new Smart Roadster, Africa to UK on one tank, Duke's efficient axial engine [w/videos]
Sat, Jul 19 2014Smart will not make another generation of the Roadster, but a Smart SUV might be in the cards. According to Smart's CEO, Annette Winkler, "The Roadster isn't a profitable business case. Everybody is keen on the car, but nobody wants to pay the bill." What Car? states that Smart is likely planning a baby SUV to take on the Nissan Juke and its ilk. But for the immediate future, Winkler says Smart "must focus on how we can maximize potential of the Fortwo and Forfour. That is strategy number one." Read more over at What Car?. A Mercedes-Benz E300 Bluetec Hybrid made the 1,223-mile trek from Africa to the UK on just one tank of fuel. Driven by Andrew Frankel of Autocar, the diesel hybrid left Tangier, Morocco with a full tank of gas (using the optional 80-liter fuel tank), and arrived in Goodwood with the car indicating 100 miles of range left. Frankel and his co-driver averaged 61.2 miles per gallon (73.6 mpg UK) on the intercontinental journey through four countries, despite elevation changes and a traffic jam. See the first video below for more information, or check out the article at Carscoops. Duke Engines promises simplicity and efficiency from the axial engine it's developing. Rather than lining up the cylinders, this engine arranges them in a circle, which allows Duke to avoid unnecessary weight. The five-cylinder, four-stroke motor manages the same amount of powerstrokes per revolution as a standard six-cylinder mill, but weighs 30 percent less. It also has much fewer parts, says Duke. Its high compression ratios mean more power with less fuel, which adds up to more efficiency and fewer emissions. The second of the two videos below, which we first found over at Sploid, explains Duke's axial engine. This content is hosted by a third party. To view it, please update your privacy preferences. Mercedes-AMG considering turbo fours, hybrid sixes for future performance sedans
Tue, 29 Apr 2014Think of the letters AMG and you'll probably end up picturing a performance sedan with a big V8. Such has become, after all, the Mercedes turning division's calling card. But with the introduction of its 2.0-liter turbo four, AMG is working at turning that notion on its head.
The highly potent engine produces 355 horsepower and is presently installed in the A45 AMG hatchback, CLA45 AMG sedan and GLA45 AMG crossover, giving Benz's smallest family a full range of performance models. But that might not be the full extent of the high-strung four-pot's use.
Speaking with AMG boss Tobias Moers, Britain's What Car? magazine reports that Affalterbach is considering slotting the same engine into larger models, particularly performance sedans like the C-Class. As we recently reported, Mercedes is already preparing to up the power from the turbo V6 in the C400 to slot a C450 Sport in below the C63 AMG. The C450 is expected to offer around 367 horsepower where the CLA45 AMG et al pack 355, but the lighter weight of the four-cylinder engine would likely offset the truancy of those extra dozen horses. Of course such a prospect would be much further down the pipeline than the C450 Sport which is expected to arrive much sooner.
