Up for sale is my 1969 Mercedes Benz 280SL Pagoda Roadster which needs finishing and reassembly. Previous owner had the car since 2008 and had been working on it and then lost interest. He purchased many new parts such as new canvas top, all seals, rechromed light bezels, brand new interior mahogany wood set which he said cost more than $1000, new rubber mats for interior of trunk and car, new exhaust system still in the box, and many miscellaneous pieces which carry the Mercedes Benz tag. All parts appear to be present: all dash gauges, radio, speedometer, tachometer, rectangular gauge, clock which previous owner says works, glove box door, all dash vent pieces and knobs and interior/exterior chrome pieces and latches, bumpers, door handles, door regulators and door parts, front grill, Bosch horns, air cleaner, new engine insulation kit and the list goes on.  The car also has an under dash air conditioning system present. It has all pieces except the compressor. There is no windshield with the car. Also present are a pair of Euro headlights which go with the car.

THERE ARE 2 ENGINES WHICH GO WITH THE CAR!! The original was disassembled and sent to the machine shop. It has been machined and the engine parts were degreased. All engine parts are present. You will see the engine in the pictures. It is complete and has the Bosch mechanical fuel injection. The other engine is a 280SL engine which came out of a running car. It is totally ASSEMBLED. It has the Bosch mechanical fuel injection on the engine. Again, the car comes with 2 engines! There are also 2 Bosch distributors which are present. The transmission and torque converter are present. Previous owner said transmission shifted well.

The car was sent to the body shop and had new floors and trunk pan welded in. The metal work that was done on the car was done very well,  high quality. After the body work was done the car was then painted 1969 Mercedes Benz Silver. This is the silver that Mercedes used in 1969 on the 280SL.  All panels look good, doors close well with even gap, hood fits well and trunk lid and convertible top lid fit well. The paint work looks good on the car. The work that was done on the welded-in panels looks good. Frame is super solid and clean.

Underneath the car was cleaned. New shocks were installed and the wheels were media blasted and then powder coated black. New tires were installed.

This is a re-assembly project!  The car rolls and can be loaded up on a trailer. All parts can be boxed and placed inside of car. This will make a beautiful car when it is done!

We have taken over 230 photos. Please click on the link below and take a look. We have laid out all of the parts and have done numerous photos:

A car writer's year in new vehicles [w/video]

Thu, Dec 18 2014

Christmas is only a week away. The New Year is just around the corner. As 2014 draws to a close, I'm not the only one taking stock of the year that's we're almost shut of. Depending on who you are or what you do, the end of the year can bring to mind tax bills, school semesters or scheduling dental appointments. For me, for the last eight or nine years, at least a small part of this transitory time is occupied with recalling the cars I've driven over the preceding 12 months. Since I started writing about and reviewing cars in 2006, I've done an uneven job of tracking every vehicle I've been in, each year. Last year I made a resolution to be better about it, and the result is a spreadsheet with model names, dates, notes and some basic facts and figures. Armed with this basic data and a yen for year-end stories, I figured it would be interesting to parse the figures and quantify my year in cars in a way I'd never done before. The results are, well, they're a little bizarre, honestly. And I think they'll affect how I approach this gig in 2015. {C} My tally for the year is 68 cars, as of this writing. Before the calendar flips to 2015 it'll be as high as 73. Let me give you a tiny bit of background about how automotive journalists typically get cars to test. There are basically two pools of vehicles I drive on a regular basis: media fleet vehicles and those available on "first drive" programs. The latter group is pretty self-explanatory. Journalists are gathered in one location (sometimes local, sometimes far-flung) with a new model(s), there's usually a day of driving, then we report back to you with our impressions. Media fleet vehicles are different. These are distributed to publications and individual journalists far and wide, and the test period goes from a few days to a week or more. Whereas first drives almost always result in a piece of review content, fleet loans only sometimes do. Other times they serve to give context about brands, segments, technology and the like, to editors and writers. So, adding up the loans I've had out of the press fleet and things I've driven at events, my tally for the year is 68 cars, as of this writing. Before the calendar flips to 2015, it'll be as high as 73. At one of the buff books like Car and Driver or Motor Trend, reviewers might rotate through five cars a week, or more. I know that number sounds high, but as best I can tell, it's pretty average for the full-time professionals in this business.

Infiniti shows Q30 interior ahead of Frankfurt debut

Tue, Sep 1 2015

Infiniti is supposed to debut the all-new Q30 hatchback at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show, but as the show is still a couple of weeks away and the company has elected to release yet another image, we aren't sure there'll be all that much to see come Sept. 15. With that in mind, then, we give you the first images of the entry-level hatch's cabin, and they're, um, wow. We knew the Q30 had a lot in common with the Mercedes-Benz A-Class but as these images show, this is far more than a common platform. The steering wheel, instrument cluster, switchgear, and shifter are direct from the Mercedes parts bin. From the looks of the images, the Q30 will even have a Mercedes-style key. This might not garner much attention in the budget ranks – take the Scion iA and Mazda2, for example – but this degree of parts sharing in the premium market is sure to raise some eyebrows. It's also a rather bewildering move for Infiniti. The company is, in effect, selling a Mercedes-Benz to any new customers it attracts. That'll certainly make a Q50 a hard sell when it comes time for an upgrade. Now, in Infiniti's defense, there are some differences in the layout here. The triple nozzle-style HVAC vents have been replaced with a more conventional pair of outlets, and the instrument cluster hood extends over the built-in navigation screen. That design decision, in particular, will certainly appeal to critics of the tacked-on-tablet look offered by Mercedes. The analog buttons for the multimedia system have also been tweaked, with the result looking far cleaner than the mess of buttons offered on Mercedes' products (we wouldn't be shocked to see this layout arrive on a facelifted A-, CLA-, or GLA-Class in the near future, though). Beyond those changes, though, there are multiple Mercedes design hallmarks here, including the location of the controls for the seat adjustments. You can check out the Q30's cabin in both right- and left-hand drive varieties courtesy of the images above. And for comparison's sake, we also included our most recent gallery of the Mercedes-Benz GLA-Class at the bottom of the page. Have a look and be sure to scroll down for the official press release. Mercedes has already booked 30k orders for new S-Class

Mon, 21 Oct 2013

When Toyota snags 30,000 Corolla orders over a three-month span, it's entirely possible we're in the midst of a global economic collapse and that the end is nigh. That's because the scale for Toyota is so very large. Mercedes-Benz, on the other hand, operates on a much smaller scale, particularly when we talk about its higher-end models, like the S-Class.
In 2012, Mercedes sold 65,000 of its flagship sedans in Germany and the EU. That's 178 units per day, for 365 days. Based on that, you can imagine the excitement at Stuttgart when it accepted 30,000 orders for the new S-Class in just three months. That's an average of 333 per day on a continent with a notoriously shaky economy. Now, admittedly, this enthusiasm could wane as the refitted S-Class becomes more common and Mercedes achieves market saturation in Europe's many chauffeur and livery services, but Mercedes isn't choosing to look at it that way.
"The new S-Class has already jumped back into the lead in terms of new vehicle registrations in Germany and its neighboring European countries," Mercedes-Benz head of sales and marketing, Ola Kaellenius, said in a statement last week.
