Up for auction is a 1969 Mercedes,280SL Roadster.  This is an older restoration about 13 years ago.  This car since it's restoration has always been kept in a garage.  It's originally from California, and brought to Tucson, where i bought it, and returned it to California where I lived.  I carefully restored it including:

  • Brakes
  • all rubber body seals
  • all window seals (windshield, side windows, quarter windows and rear window)
  • New Windshield (had a ding)
  • all new interior, with french stitching, and imported seat covers and rebuilt seats.
  • new headliner
  • new door cards
  • new radiator
  • exhaust was redone when i bought it
  • the boot and the conv. top area re done (relined )
  • New Conv. Top...
I have put maybe 4 k on the car since i owned it, i used it for special occasions, and  some car shows.  The body has no rust but does show some wear, do to time, sun, and people who like to park next to you even when you park in the back 40...It run excellently, it handle like a charm, It or the 69 sl was showcased on Top Gear, and the end comment was "I wouldn't change a thing on it" by Jeremy Clarkson.  Anyway, I live out in the boonies,on a dirt road, and I don't like to take it out in all that dust etc..So, no point in keeping it if i am not going to drive it. I hate to see it go, but I would feel better if it went to someone that would be able to use it...thanks for your time, happy bidding

SRT Viper dukes it out with Mercedes SLS Black Series in new Head 2 Head

Fri, 05 Jul 2013

In Episode 36 of Motor Trend's Head 2 Head, now that the Corvette ZR1 is no more, Jonny Lieberman has to look overseas to the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Black Series for a challenger with similar philosophy to the SRT Viper: long hood hiding a high-horsepower engine set way back, rear-wheel drive, tiny trunks. That puts the Viper's 8.4-liter V10 with 640 horsepower and 600 pound-feet of torque against the SLS AMG's 6.2-liter V8 with 622 hp and 468 lb-ft.
However, the congruences in philosophy and magnitude of numbers doesn't translate to the driving experiences of the two, which are literally and figuratively on different continents. Lieberman gets a handle on the two of them on Northern California roads, Randy Probst then finds out how, and how quickly, they can lap Laguna Seca.
They both get kudos for being improvements on their original sources, but only one of them can take the win. You can find out by watching the video below.

Mercedes dealers authorized to spend $2,500 on perks for S-Class customers

Mon, 02 Dec 2013

If you drop $100,000 on a luxury sedan, it seems only reasonable to receive some preferential treatment at the dealership you purchased from. After all, that price isn't just for the car - you're paying for the brand and all the cachet that entails. For Mercedes-Benz, those benefits have apparently been lacking relative to the German brand's luxury competitors.
That's set to change, though, as Automotive News reports that the German brand is placing a much greater emphasis on keeping its customers happy and loyal with its MB Select program. Starting with the new S-Class and spreading to the CLA-Class (and eventually beyond), dealers are being given money - up to $2,500 in the case of the flagship sedan - just to improve the customer experience.
We agree, improving the "customer experience" is quite a vague term, so it's nice that Mercedes USA's CEO, Steve Cannon, offered up some examples to AN at the LA Auto Show. For example, a customer couldn't fit his sunglasses into the overhead compartment. "So we bought him a pair of Ray-Ban sunglasses that fit because of their shape," Cannon said.

BMW expects China to pass US as its top market in 2013

Thu, 11 Jul 2013

When you combine two billion citizens, 100 cities with more than a million inhabitants and an economy that's as unrestrained as Jim Cramer on an Adderall binge, China's explosive auto industry growth shouldn't be a huge surprise. Audi already lists the communist country as its largest market, while Mercedes-Benz is expecting it to be there in the next few years. Now, according to a report from Automotive News, BMW is expecting the People's Republic to overtake the United States in sales by the end of 2013.
We already discovered the extent that BMW is going to in establishing a dedicated Chinese stronghold, when we explored BMW's Shanghai-based DesignWorks studio ahead of April's Shanghai Motor Show. And while we argued that DesignWorks Shanghai hasn't really borne fruit, it isn't due to a lack of sales.
BMW China has seen a 16-percent jump in year-over-year sales, lead by a 28-percent gain in 5 Series sales. Part of BMW's growth strategy comes from an ever-expanding dealership network. Remember those 100 cities we mentioned with over one million people? According to Karsten Engel, CEO of BMW's Chinese operations, those 100-million-plus city dwellers don't have access to a premium dealership.
