2018 Lincoln Navigator vs luxury SUV rivals: How it compares on paper

The all-new 2018 Lincoln Navigator is an impressive, luxury-lined beast. However, while its Black Label interior stood out most during our first drive of the new Navigator, it also seemed pretty clear that much of this full-size SUV was superior to the competition in a number of fundamental ways. Its Raptor-sourced 3.5-liter V6 had class-leading power for one, and its third-row seat seemed as spacious and comfortable as its rivals' are cramped and barely usable. To search for your next new vehicle, try Autoblog' s Car Finder. Yet, I wanted to take a closer look at how the Navigator fully compares on paper to its competitors - especially the Cadillac Escalade with which it most directly competes. The below spreadsheet should tell the whole story, but as you can see, there's an awful lot of class-leading green highlighter in the Navigator's column. The cargo volume and third-row legroom numbers are particularly telling, with the latter actually going up to 42.3 inches when you slide the second-row fully forward. Now, a few things to note about the above spreadsheet. The GLS-Class is also available as the GLS 550, which boasts a 4.7-liter V8 that just comes up short to the Navigator with 449 horsepower but has to deal with only 5,578 pounds. Its $94,950 price tag is comparable to the Navigator Black Label. Much of the LX 570's information is also applicable to the Toyota Land Cruiser, which, badge aside, could certainly be considered a member of this segment given its feature content and still-hefty price tag. It has better ground clearance and approach/departure angles than its Lexus sibling, along with an as-indicated lower price. Much of the Escalade's information also applies to the GMC Yukon Denali, while the Infiniti QX80 is applicable to the Nissan Armada. 2016 Mercedes-Benz C450 AMG Sport is not too hot, not too cold

Mercedes-Benz is moving to a new system for performance models, launching its AMG Sport line that will slot above the standard cars, but below the full-fledged Mercedes-AMG offerings. The perfect example of how this all looks can be seen with the C-Class – we've already driven (and enjoyed) the standard C300 and C400 offerings, and we're absolutely geeked to test the Mercedes-AMG C63. Slotting in the middle, though, is this new C450 AMG Sport, which makes its debut at the Detroit Auto Show this week. Power comes from the twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 found in the C400, but output is increased to 362 horsepower and 384 pound-feet of torque – up from 329 and 354, respectively. That's all shuffled through the company's 7G-Tronic seven-speed automatic transmission, and sent to the road via 4Matic all-wheel drive. Hitting 60 miles per hour is said to take just 4.9 seconds, en route to a 155-mph top end. There's an AMG adaptive sport suspension with adjustable dampers (from the C63), and the interior and exterior aesthetics have been pumped up for a more sporting appearance. It all seems like a good fit, and we think it'll slot nicely in the middle of the already good C-Class range. Check out our fresh batch of lives images of the C450 above. Mercedes GLE63 AMG Coupe teased

The very concept of the luxury crossover coupe often gets flamed for being not only ugly, but also impractical. However, after years of letting BMW blaze the trail with the X6, Mercedes-Benz recently entered the field with the GLE-Class Coupe. Now, it's time to add a little more pepper to the package with the newly teased GLE63 AMG Coupe. The video above gives a solid look at the three-quarters perspective of this high-performance high-rider. Compared to the standard version buyers get a different front bumper with larger air intakes and an arching wing that almost appears to be floating in space. Flashes in the clip show off AMG branding for the brake calipers, steering wheel and seats, as is expected. This is clearly not a vehicle that'll appeal to everyone, but it offers an alternative to the latest BMW X6 M with 567 horsepower and 553 pound-feet of torque. Mercedes isn't saying what lies under the hood of the GLE63 AMG Coupe yet. Although given the name, we suspect a version of the brand's 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 is the likely choice. It's offered in the latest C63 AMG with either 469 or 503 hp. The debut for this CUV coupe is possible at the upcoming Detroit Auto Show, where the standard GLE Coupe will be unveiled.
