For 2007, Mercedes-Benz rounded out their family-oriented array by introducing the seven-seat GL-Class, and for 2008 the manufacturer adds the higher-performance GL550 to the lineup, with its 5.5L V8 and 21-inch wheels. The 4.7L V8 found in the GL450 is a derivative of the four-valve-per-cylinder engine that first appeared in the S550. In the GL, it makes 335 horsepower and 339 ft-lbs. of torque. A seven-speed automatic transmission helps the GL450 sprint to 60 mph in only 7.4 seconds. The GL320 CDI starts at $53,000, $2,500 less than the GL450, and was introduced late during the 2007 model year. While it only makes 215 horsepower, the 3.2L V6 diesel engine makes a whopping 398 lb-ft or torque. It will banish all your old ideas of what a diesel engine is like, too: it's quiet, has no noticeable odor, and offers a tidal wave of torque. The GL550, starting at $76,975, improves the powertrain lineup with Mercedes-Benz' impressive 5.5L V8. Outside, 21-inch wheels and more aggressive styling for the front grille and fender flares are standard. Rounding out the remainder of the GL550's $21,475 base price differential is much of the GL450's optional equipment list, including trailer stability assist, an adaptive damping system, sunroof, bi-xenon headlights, power liftgate, leather upholstery, heated rear seats, burl walnut trim, the Parktronic system with rearview camera, hand-free communication and voice-recognition capabilities, and more. The interior of all three will look familiar to M-Class owners, but there are a few surprises. The middle row of seats is split 60/40, and tumbles on the passenger side for access to the third row. The third row has a reasonable amount of legroom, which makes the GL-Class versatile as both a cargo and a people hauler. One of the neatest features on the vehicle is the two buttons in the rear cargo area that raise or lower either third seatback electrically. Total cargo space with both rows folded is a voluminous 83.8 cubic feet.Plenty of protection is built into the GL-Class models. Besides a very strong roll cage body, passive safety items include permanent four-wheel-drive, four-wheel disc brakes with anti-lock brakes, an electronic stability program, traction control and eight air bags. The GL-Class comes standard with all the power accessories you'd expect, along with dual-zone automatic air conditioning, a 6-disc CD changer and a multi-function leather steering wheel. Bird's-eye maple trim (burl walnut on the GL550), eight-way power and heated front seats and HomeLink add to the SUV's luxurious feel.On the GL320 and GL430, optional rear park assist, running boards, xenon lights, harman/kardon audio, tri-zone climate control, leather seats, and a rear entertainment system ensure that the GL can be configured to just about any taste.Aside from the size of the family the vehicle can accommodate, what separates the GL-Class from the M-Class is the air-adjustable suspension. Besides being able to raise and lower the GL-Class, you can also choose between a comfort and sport setting that produces an easily noticeable change in ride. It also automatically levels the front and rear end as the weight of the load varies.

This car has been meticulously maintained at Mercedes dealerships here in Houston.  The car is in excellent shape.  In the interest of full disclosure, here are all of the faults with the car:
Body:  There are a few door dings as seen in the pictures.  Nothing too distracting.
The paint is peeling a little on the fenders.

Mechanically, the car is perfect.   The Service E was just performed at Star Motor Cars in Houston, I have all of the receipts and service records.  Brakes have been replaced, suspension and power steering also replaced/repaired.  New rear tires, front tires still have 70% tread on them

This is my wifes car, that she has owned since new.  It is very clean, never smoked in or run hard.

2014 Mercedes-Benz S-Class caught totally undisguised

Mon, 18 Mar 2013

Based on the lightly camouflaged spy shots of the 2014 Mercedes-Benz S-Class we've seen lately, it hasn't taken a vivid imagination to picture what the next iteration of this big luxury sedan will look like. Even so, we now we have our first unobstructed views of the redesigned S-Class, codenamed W222, as it has just been caught out flaunting for some promo shots.
The first thing we notice about the new S-Class design is the disappearance of the last generation's flared wheel arches. Yet the new design adds even more character with bodyside creases similar to the CLS-Class and some elements reminiscent of 2007's F700 Concept, including the massive grille and vertical LED taillights. Other key details include a large panoramic roof and the narrow exhaust outlets, but the large LED-trimmed headlights and the aggressive front fascia are probably the biggest departure from the current design. With these spy shots, we also catch a blurry shot of the interior, but we've seen a practically uncovered look at the new S-Class' cabin back in January.
Overall, the next S-Class sports an expressive and premium new look, but as far as all-new designs go, it's quite conservative - a move no doubt fitting for these lean financial times.

VW, Fiat, Mercedes could be CNG winners in Europe

Fri, Dec 12 2014

Fiat ads in the US try to play up the exotic, sexy side of Italian culture. On the home front in Italy, however, passenger-vehicle sales are marked by something less edgy and quite a bit more practical: the growth of compressed-natural-gas (CNG) powered car sales. In fact, Italy is leading a group of European countries where CNG sales are on the upswing and may be benefiting automakers like VW, Fiat and Mercedes-Benz, according to Automotive News. VW started sales of its Golf TGI natural-gas vehicle this year – the company's fourth in Europe – while Mercedes-Benz added a natural-gas B-class model. Fiat accounts for about 50 percent of CNG vehicles sold on the continent. In all, Europe's CNG sales through September totaled about 67,000, up seven percent from a year earlier, Automotive News Europe says, citing research firm JATO Dynamics. And the number of CNG vehicles on Europe's roads could jump tenfold within the next decade. The draw is a combination of lower refueling prices and a CNG drivetrain that typically emits less CO2 than diesel vehicles. As for Italy, about five percent of new-vehicle sales are CNG. To put that into perspective, hybrids, battery-electric vehicles, plug-in hybrids and diesels combined to account for about 4.2 percent of US vehicle sales last year. Aston Martin's deal with Mercedes-AMG more than skin-deep

Tue, Jun 30 2015

Aston Martin is working on a raft of new models. But it's not going it alone: it has a technical partnership with Mercedes-AMG, the details of which have only been revealed in bits and pieces. If these latest spy shots are anything to go by, however, the arrangement could run deeper than anyone initially let on. Spied undergoing testing at the Nurburgring, this prototype for the upcoming successor to the Aston Martin DB9 is widely expected to be called the DB11 (10 is being used by James Bond's new ride). From the outside it doesn't look different than the previous versions we've seen running around, but this time we can also peer into the cabin, and that's where things start to get interesting. Despite the best arm-waving efforts by the development engineers, our spy photographers managed to snap a couple of shots of the interior. And though it looks far from being ready for production, the components we see appear to have been lifted from the Mercedes S-Class Coupe – particularly the steering wheel, digital instrument cluster, and almost the entire center console. This speaks to a deeper collaboration between the British and German automakers. The 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 from the Mercedes-AMG GT, C63, and G500 4x42 is already being adapted for use in the next generation of Astons. Related Video:
