2002 Mercedes Benz G500 that has been tastefully updated with a new 2009-2011 grille, Xenon headlights, LED taillights, and white side markers to look exactly like a 2011 model. It has black leather interior to go with the black exterior, the most popular combination (the gray interiors look awful in person). An iPod connector with a bluetooth add-on has also been added and the original 18" wheels have been powder coated black to give it a distinctive look.

This G-Wagen has been well cared for and is in excellent condition inside and out. I'm only considering selling it because my commute is going to become 75 miles a day and I don't want to put so many miles on this great vehicle. It has been an excellent daily driver for me though, and I've put almost 25,000 miles on it in the last 18 months.

As I've always intended to keep it for the long term, I've had a lot of extra work done on it, that didn't have to be done at the time, but will benefit the new owner. In the last 18 months, besides normal maintenance, I've had the following work done on it:

- Complete front end rebuild - there were some leaking seals (you'll have that after a dozen years) so while they were taking it apart I had the whole front end done.  Full tear down of the axles, replaced all seals/bushings, replaced complete steering linkage assembly and tie rod ends (have receipts) spent over $2500 with independent mechanic that I've used on my Mercedes for years, would have been been over $5K at the MB Dealer.
- Complete tune-up including new plugs & wires (16 of them! 2 per cylinder)
-New Rotors & Brake Pads in front & back
-New Windshield - picked up a chip and hated all the fine chips on the windshield creating glare, so instead of fixing, I paid to replace it (G windshields are not cheap) so it feels like you are looking out of a brand new vehicle when you look out the massive windshield

This G runs great, looks great, and all electronics work great. If you are interested, please feel free to ask me any questions, or request a link to additional photos.  If possible, I'd prefer to have serious buyers see it in person before the auction closes, so don't hesitate to contact me to come see it.  During the week, the G will generally be in Corona and it will usually be in Newport on the weekends, I can work to accommodate showing it in either place.

If you're a Daimler exec, you'll soon have to drive an EV

Sat, Feb 20 2016

Luckily, for Daimler's "senior level" managers, the company has a lot of plug-in vehicle options. Lucky because "in the future," these managers will have to drive the company's electrified vehicles. This most likely means a plug-in hybrid – something like the C 350 e or the GLE 500 e 4MATIC – but it could also be the all-electric and peppy Smart ED or the B-Class EV. Board member Ola Kallenius said in a statement (available below) that this new policy, "We are continuing on the path of zero-emission driving with consistency. This is why we are making electric mobility an integral part of the everyday lives of our top management to set an example and to provide a clear role model." It's a big change from five years ago, when Daimler's director of fuel cell and battery drive development, Christian Mohrdieck, was willing to talk up the drawbacks EVs face. Even a year ago, Daimler CEO Dieter Zetsche explained the financial hardships involved in making EVs. But, EV technology continues to change, and so, perhaps, do the attitudes inside Daimler. As EV advocate Chelsea Sexton said on Facebook regarding this new policy, "This should be standard procedure in any automaker seeking a leadership role in the plug-in vehicle movement. Commitment starts at the top." Related Video: Electric Mobility: Daimler Management leads by example Daimler is once again setting a new milestone on the road to zero-emission driving: In the future managers will drive electrified company cars. Furthermore, Daimler is this year set to invest a further 30 million euros into extending the company's own charging infrastructure across many of its sites. This will also benefit employees, who have access to a growing range of vehicles with alternative drive systems. Stuttgart. It represents a further commitment from Daimler to an electric future for mobility: "We are continuing on the path of zero-emission driving with consistency", states Ola Kallenius, member of the Board of Management of Daimler AG responsible for Mercedes-Benz Cars Sales and Marketing, about the importance of the current initiative. "This is why we are making electric mobility an integral part of the everyday lives of our top management to set an example and to provide a clear role model." The agreement applies to the company's senior levels of management and focuses on plug-in hybrids.

Best car infotainment systems: From UConnect to MBUX, these are our favorites

Sun, Jan 7 2024

Declaring one infotainment system the best over any other is an inherently subjective matter. You can look at quantitative testing for things like input response time and various screen load times, but ask a room full of people that have tried all car infotainment systems what their favorite is, and you’re likely to get a lot of different responses. For the most part, the various infotainment systems available all share a similar purpose. They aim to help the driver get where they're going with navigation, play their favorite tunes via all sorts of media playback options and allow folks to stay connected with others via phone connectivity. Of course, most go way beyond the basics these days and offer features like streaming services, in-car performance data and much more. Unique features are aplenty when you start diving through menus, but how they go about their most important tasks vary widely. Some of our editors prefer systems that are exclusively touch-based and chock full of boundary-pushing features. Others may prefer a back-to-basics non-touch system that is navigable via a scroll wheel. You can compare it to the phone operating system wars. Just like some prefer Android phones over iPhones, we all have our own opinions for what makes up the best infotainment interface. All that said, our combined experience tells us that a number of infotainment systems are at least better than the rest. WeÂ’ve narrowed it down to five total systems in their own subcategories that stand out to us. Read on below to see our picks, and feel free to make your own arguments in the comments. Best infotainment overall: UConnect 5, various Stellantis products Ram 1500 Uconnect Infotainment System Review If thereÂ’s one infotainment system that all of us agree is excellent, itÂ’s UConnect. It has numerous qualities that make it great, but above all else, UConnect is simple and straightforward to use. Ease of operation is one of the most (if not the single most) vital parts of any infotainment system interface. If youÂ’re expected to be able to tap away on a touchscreen while driving and still pay attention to the road, a complex infotainment system is going to remove your attention from the number one task at hand: driving. UConnect uses a simple interface that puts all of your key functions in a clearly-represented row on the bottom of the screen. Tap any of them, and it instantly pulls up that menu.

Mercedes rolls out the long red carpet for new Maybach S600 Pullman [w/video]

Tue, Mar 3 2015

Remember when the S-Class was the S-Class and that was it? The pinnacle of the Mercedes-Benz lineup, at least as far as sedans were concerned. But those days are long behind us. Now there's a coupe as well (bringing the former CL back into the fold), a convertible on its way, the uber-luxe Maybach limo and this: the new Pullman. The creme de la creme of the Silver Star range, His Excellency Field Marshall Dr. Mercedes-Maybach S600 Pullman Dada – as it's known in full, at least with the twelve-cylinder engine – is... well, it's enormous. It's bigger than the old Maybach 62 it essentially replaces and bigger even than an extended-wheelbase Rolls-Royce Phantom. And why would you need a vehicle so large? Well, you wouldn't. And neither would we. But there are some, shall we call them "unelected heads of state" who would accept no less. They're the customers who favored the original, and 50 years later, they're the ones who'll be snapping up the new one. (The little wavy flags on the front fenders are optional.)
