Please let me stop you now if you are looking for an inexpensive, needy, or average CL63 like most of them for sale. This is not that car. I am hired by clients to buy over twenty AMG and 600-series Mercedes each year, and I can tell you there is ONE thing I look for: a no-expense spared, documented, service and maintenance history. This is that car. In addition, this CL63 has a clean carfax, only two owners, and has all original body and paint. It looks NEW inside and out. Please understand, with these cars, you get what you pay for. This CL63 will DESTROY any other CL63 you can find for cosmetics and mechanicals.

Here's the deal:

-- This is a 2009 CL63 in 799 diamond white. The Designo Porcelain interior option includes black piano lacquer trim, Porcelain leather upholstery, black alcantara headliner, black piano lacquer leather and wood steering wheel, and exclusive black nappa leather trim. It is a two owner car, ALWAYS dealer serviced, has only 14,xxx miles, and looks like a million bucks. This car was LOVED, and has NEVER had any paint or bodywork to its body panels. There is not a ding, dent, scuff, or scratch anywhere…it’s unreal. --

-- Exterior 9.95 out of 10 - Fantastic overall condition paint, body, glass, and trim. No dings. No dents. No scuffs. This CL63 looks amazing, with a deep shine to the diamond white paint that's like looking into an endless mirror. This car has been paint metered and every body panel is original and wears its original paint. This car looks great even under fluorescent light in a garage. Amazing! --

-- The lower side-body moldings are in great shape. The chrome, rubber, glass, and trim is all excellent and original. No oxidation, fade, wear, rust, etc. as you’d expect on a 14K mile car. Look at the body panels.....they are laser straight. --

-- This CL63 is nicely optioned, with an original MSRP of more than $158K! Options include the Designo Porcelain interior, iPod integration, Bluetooth interface, Premium II including night-view assist and rear-view camera, multi-contour active ventilated/heated front seats, parktronic, heated steering wheel, keyless go, trunk closer, and more. Wow! --

-- It currently wears its OEM 20” AMG alloy wheels, all true and in excellent condition. The tires are getting low in the rear, but at the BIN price I will include a near-new set of matching high performance tires with 90% tread remaining. This CL63 goes arrow-straight down the road at high speed with no shimmy, pull, or anything else. --

-- Interior 9.9 out of 10 - The interior overall including all seating and door leather, seat padding, dash, console, wood, and carpets are in great original condition. No dash cracks, carpet rips, zero wear of any kind on the leather. Everything looks and feels new. This is not the typical worn CL - this car was garaged every day of its life and it shows. No refinishing either, this is the ORIGINAL UNTOUCHED interior, without even any type of detailing. --

-- The door panels and wood trim are also in great shape, like the rest of the car. --

-- Even the trunk and spare are mint. --

-- Electrical 10 out of 10 - All lights, switches, radio, windows, wipers, seat motors/memory/pulse, and power mirrors work perfectly. Vacuum lock system, nav, keyless go, interior lights all operating as they should. --

-- The extended warranty offered at the BIN price is TotalCare from EasyCare, probably the best plan in the country for a CL63. It runs until 5/24/2016 or 49,057 miles, whichever comes first. The service history is great, extensive and documented all at the MB dealer. Recent services by MB dealer include the synthetic oil changes and more. --

-- Mechanical 10 out of 10 - Engine starts, idles, runs, and revs to redline in every gear smooth and strong. You can NOT tell when this car is running at idle! Transmission is smooth yet very aggressive, and downshifts eagerly to catapult you into the next county. No abrupt engagement, just silky smooth shifts. She runs at high speed with no vibrations or noises. There are no leaks....NONE. --

-- This CL63 has passed multiple inspections with flying colors. It’s ready to roll. --

-- Engine is VERY VERY strong and VERY eager to run, transmission smooth and ready to drop down two gears at your command to rocket you past slower traffic. Brakes are solid and pedal feel is firm. ABC suspension is tight like new. Steering nicely weighted. ZERO leaks or noises. This car drives and handles like new. Look at the condition of the engine bay! –

-- This CL63 comes with all the books, tools, navigation DVD, remote keys, and EVERY SINGLE MB service record since new, all the way back to day one! No expense spared maintenance and repairs. --

-- This CL63 does not have any signs of wear, no rubber rot, no leaks, no ABC problems, no lukewarm A/C....NOTHING. Everything is in fantastic shape, and at only 14K miles, it's not even close to broken in yet! --

-- If someone selects the buy-it-now option, I will provide the following: The near-new matching 20” performance tires mentioned above. The TotalCare extended warranty mentioned above. Brake pads front and rear replaced if less than 50% remaining. A full $200 detailing including engine bay, carpet shampoo, leather conditioning, orbital polishing, etc. I'll also supply Toughguard protectant for the paint, which you have to see to believe. It will bead water, seal, and UV protect the paint for FIVE YEARS, GUARANTEED....no future waxings necessary. I know it sounds like a B.S. late-night TV claim, but it's not; dealers charge $695 and up for this stuff, and it really works. I will also include floor mats and touch-up paint. That’s close to $6500 in value! --

-- Nits: None. This is an as-new CL63 AMG, and it is mechanically and cosmetically near-flawless. The car is as perfect as you will ever see for a 2009 CL63, and you’ll never see another one like it! --

-- I have great feedback, and have recently sold dozens of high-end cars that the new owners are thrilled with. They and others have offered to act as references to verify that I am honest in my descriptions of the cars I sell, and you are welcome to contact them. --

Paul di Resta returns to DTM with Mercedes

Tue, 21 Jan 2014

Some drivers manage to make the transition from one form of motor racing into another, and some run into trouble. Take Paul di Resta, for example. The promising young Scottish driver dominated Formula 3 racing in Europe in 2006, then moved over to Germany's hugely competitive DTM touring car series where he finished second in 2008, third in 2009 and first in 2010. But things didn't go as smoothly for Paul - cousin to retired Indy champion Dario Franchitti - when he moved in to Formula One with the Force India team.
In three years on the grid, he failed to score a single podium finish. Little surprise, then, that Force India opted not to renew his contract for this season. Left without a ride, di Resta is now going back to DTM with longtime supporter Mercedes-Benz, testing the new C-Class touring car today in Portugal. It's good news for Mercedes, which is celebrating 120 years in motor racing this season and, with 2005 champion Gary Paffett also on board, can now count two former champions on its DTM roster.
We wouldn't count Paul out of F1 for good, though. When he won the DTM title four years ago, he was also moonlighting as Force India's test driver, and we wouldn't be surprised to see him pull similar double-duty with the Mercedes F1 team (or another Benz-powered outfit) this year before spring-boarding back into grand prix racing in the future. At 27 years old, he may not have been the youngest driver on the grid this year, but he's still got a good few years ahead of him.

2014 Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Black Series [w/video]

Fri, 15 Nov 2013

The biggest misconception about the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Black Series is that it's simply a higher-performing version of the SLS GT - a closer look, or better yet, a few hot laps on a high-speed racing circuit, reveals that is anything but the case.
Launched in the States in mid-2011, the standard SLS GT is a 583-horsepower, all-aluminum, gull-wing coupe with performance that positions it near the top of the exotic segment. While the AMG team at Mercedes-Benz could have left it alone, their experience with the SLS AMG GT3 race car said there was room for improvement, so they devised the SLS Black Series. The transformation from SLS GT to SLS Black Series is extensive, with no fewer than 17 different significant enhancements.
The engine mapping, crankshaft, connecting rods, valve-train, intake, exhaust and cooling are all modified and the engine's redline bumps up from 7,200 to 8,000 rpm, which pushes output of the hand-built 6.3-liter V8 to 622 horsepower. The power steering receives a new ratio, a coil-over AMG Adaptive Performance suspension is installed along with underbody braces, the track is widened, two-piece carbon-ceramic brakes replace iron rotors at each corner and a lightweight titanium exhaust is fitted beneath. The AMG Speedshift seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox is modified and an electronically controlled AMG rear differential lock ensures the power goes to the pavement. Last on the mechanical upgrades are new lightweight forged wheels (10x19 inches front and 12x20 inches rear) wrapped in special R-compound Michelin Pilot Sport Cup tires.

Daimler names Bernd Pischetsrieder to supervisory board

Mon, 14 Apr 2014

Some executives in the automotive industry stay with one company for their entire careers, while others bounce from one to the other, often leaving their indelible mark on each automaker at which they serve. Bob Lutz is certainly an example of the latter. So is Lee Iacocca, having presided over Ford and later charing the Chrysler board. Carlos Tavares was chief operating officer of Renault before being nominated as chief executive at PSA Peugeot Citroën. But as far as the Germans go, nobody's jumped from the leadership of one automaker to the next quite like Bernd Pischetsrieder - especially now that he's been named to the supervisory board of Mercedes-Benz parent company Daimler.
An engineer by training, Pischetsrieder started his career at BMW in 1973, eventually rising to the office of CEO after twenty years. There he remained until 1999, only to be dismissed after orchestrating BMW's takeover of the Rover Group (of which only the Mini brand remains in the company's portfolio, the other brands having been sold off after his dismissal).
The next year he was named chairman of Volkswagen's Seat brand, and rose to the chairmanship of the entire Volkswagen Group two years later. Despite a largely successful four-year tenure (that gave birth, incidentally, to the Bugatti Veyron), disagreements with supervisory board chairman Ferdinand Piëch saw him leave the helm at VW AG, focusing his attention on the Scania truck division. He's since been touted as a potential chief executive for Opel and for Continental, but neither potential was apparently realized.
