Mercedes-AMG GT3 racing towards Geneva debut

So far, we've only seen the fundamental road-going coupe version of the new Mercedes-AMG GT, but like the Porsche 911 it targets, you can bet there will be more derivatives to follow. And this is our first glimpse at the first of them. At the Geneva Motor Show next month, Mercedes will showcase the GT3-spec racing version of the AMG GT. The German automaker didn't tell us much more in making the announcement, but did release a pair of cropped teaser sketches showing the sports car with all manner of racing appendages, including what looks like a massive rear wing. Once ready for action, the new Mercedes-AMG GT3 will replace the previous SLS AMG GT3 that won the Nurburgring 24-hour race a couple of years back. But with every automaker and its sister company getting in on the GT3 racing action these days, it'll face some stiff competition on the track. Recharge Wrap-up: KillaJoule hits 270 mph; Mercedes B-Class ED gets PlugShare

The Mercedes-Benz B-Class Electric Drive will get its own version of the PlugShare charging-station locator app. Developed by Recargo with the help of Daimler, the vehicle-specific app will be integrated into the car's navigation system. The system maps the location of nearby charging stations from various networks. So far, Mercedes-Benz doesn't offer a universal pay service for the various charging networks, like those offered by BMW and Nissan. Read more at Green Car Reports. HyperSolar uses solar energy to make hydrogen from water. Without using electrolyzers, HyperSolar uses a photochemical process to separate and capture the hydrogen in the water, which can then be used for clean energy, such as automotive fuel cells. The solar devices are submerged in water inside a container, and sunlight powers the device to free the hydrogen. HyperSolar claims that its process is more efficient and cost effective than other methods used to produce hydrogen from water. After a computer model showed a possibility of about 270 mph, the team took the motorcycle with sidecar out to the salt flats for Mike Cook's Shootout. Everything went smoothly, and Hakansson easily surpassed speeds of the 249.1-mph world record she set a few weeks ago. The team is calling it quits for the season, but will make some tweaks to the KillaJoule in hopes of getting 300 mph out of the red bullet next year. The biggest gas-guzzlers of 2024: 'The Meanest List' is the opposite of greenest cars

In some circles — especially some automotive circles — bigger is better. This explains the Hummer, for example. In its so-called “Meanest List” of a dozen models, the American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy (ACEEE) makes no apologies for berating “the worst-performing mass market automobiles” sold in 2024 in the U.S. The most diminutive car on the list is a Chevy Corvette Z06. At the top of this particular heap is the Mercedes-Benz AMG G63, a gas-powered SUV that the environmental agency says was “the worst-performing vehicle of the more than 1,200 models assessed by Greener Cars and has an annual fuel cost over $4,000.” Not to mention its MSRP of around $184,000. Lonely at the middle of the list is the sole electric, the GMC Hummer EV, which weighs in at 9,000 pounds.
