Up for auction is my 1995 Mercedes AMG C36.  If you know these cars then you know how rare they are.  This is the first AMG sold through Mercedes and depending on where you look there were only 200-400 brought to the US.  I have only had this car for a couple of months, I'm a BMWCCA member and bought this because I've always liked them and it's the first one I've seen for sale locally in the silver/black color combo I like.  Since I bought it I've had the need come up to buy a truck so unfortunately the car has to go.  The previous owner replaced the troublesome engine wire harness and also replaced the head gasket and had the head decked and checked.  I have receipts for over $3,000 for that work about 10k miles ago.  The car has a nice stance sitting on H&R springs and Bilstein Sport shocks.  The ride is still very nice and not sacrificed by the springs.  It has factory AMG staggered 17" monoblock wheels.

Since I've owned it I replaced the front tires (rears are still great tread), changed out the grille to a factory piece (I'll also include the blackout grill that came with the car).  I also changed out the transmission filter and fluid using synthetic.

The body is very straight and in great shape, the only dent I've noticed is a small on in the driver's door that could easily be fixed by a paintless guy if you cared to do that.  There is no rust on the car.  The antenna is broken off but I'll include a new mast that I purchased for the car.

The interior is VERY nice.  The only issues being the headliner is dropping in the rear and the woodgrain panels have some cracks.  Power seats work great, sunroof and all windows work properly.  The driver's side door lock works some of the time, the other 3 and trunk work great.  AC and heater work great as new.  Factory radio works but the display does not show up so you can't see where it's tuned.  The car is equipped with a factory cell phone that works along with the panel under the radio for hands free use (of course there is no service and you probably can't get a carrier assigned to it, but it's still cool).

The engine runs great and has not given me any issues.  I did notice after purchase that the intake crossover tube is cracked so that should be replaced.  The transmission shifts great.  The factory AMG exhaust sounds great and has the chrome AMG tips at the rear bumper.  The fuel gauge works when it's in a good mood.  I fill it up with 93 octane premium when the trip meter hits 200 so it's not really an issue for me.

Please look at all the pictures and ask any questions before bidding.  I've priced the car less than what I paid for it so I can sell it quickly and get a truck.  I require a $500 deposit via paypal within 24 hours of the end of the auction and the balance within 5 days via certified check, wire transfer, or cash in person.  I can assist with shipping from my end but it's up to you to pick a shipper and get that scheduled.  If you want to fly in and get the car I can most likely pick you up at IAH airport depending on when you arrive.  Being a used car, there is no warranty.

Race Recap: 2015 Hungarian Grand Prix is Magyar for 'What a race!'

Mon, Jul 27 2015

Every driver on the Formula 1 grid dreams of taking home the silverware, but only one driver each year can do it. Barring disaster in 2015 it looks like it's going to be Lewis Hamilton. The Brit has been so dominating at the front of the grid on Saturday, we can't see how he'll miss out on winning the second annual FIA Pole Position Trophy. That's the accolade introduced last season in another manufactured attempt to give drivers something to work for on Saturday, since the FIA felt leading into the first corner didn't have the pull it used to. Hamilton took his ninth pole of the season in Hungary for Mercedes-AMG Petronas with a crushing lap that put him almost six tenths ahead of his teammate Nico Rosberg in second. All Hamilton needs is one more spot at the top of the grid this season, and he's the Pole Position trophy winner. Thrilling stuff. Behind Rosberg the gaps stayed smaller, Sebastian Vettel in the Ferrari a little more than a tenth behind Rosberg, Daniel Ricciardo in the Infiniti Red Bull Racing less than four one-hundredths behind Vettel. We feel almost as vexed watching Kimi Raikkonen as he feels driving – he's finally got a good Ferrari, now he can't get a good weekend. The front wing broke on his car in Free Practice 1, then a water leak in Free Practice 3 robbed him of setup time on the soft tire. He lines up in fifth about two tenths behind Ricciardo. The slow, tight Hungaroring didn't agree with the Williams chassis, Valtteri Bottas the first of the Grove team drivers in sixth, his teammate Felipe Massa two places back. Between them is Daniil Kvyat in the second Red Bull in seventh. Teenager Max Verstappen put in a good showing in the Toro Rosso to grab ninth, while Romain Grosjean in a wriggling, squishy, sliding Lotus classified his appearance in Q3 at all as "a miracle." As for the race that followed, we don't expect to see another like it for a long time – it was the real thrilling stuff, one shock after another. The drama began after the first parade lap, when Felipe Massa lined up out of position and the start was aborted. The drivers did another parade lap, then lined up with everyone in place. Mercedes got swamped as soon as the lights went out. Vettel ran around both of them and led the race into the first turn, Raikkonen had come from fifth to third by Turn 1, then got the inside line on Rosberg through Turn 2 to take second place.

As US exports top 2 million, is America becoming the world's source of cheap cars?

Mon, Feb 9 2015

North American auto production is booming with 2014 figures just shy of the of the 17.3-million vehicle record set in 2000. With more models being built on the continent, even more are being shipped overseas. Factories in the US exported 2.1 million cars last year – the highest number ever. About half of those went to Canada and Mexico, but more than ever have been heading to places like the Middle East and China. The upswing comes in part from from after-effects from the Great Recession, according to The Wall Street Journal. With a weak dollar and lower production costs after the financial crisis, building vehicles in the US was relatively cheaper and more competitive in the world. At the same time buyers around the world are going crazy for crossovers. According to the WSJ, BMW and Mercedes-Benz are already exporting the majority of their US production of these models overseas. Both automakers have also announced investments to expand production further here to send more vehicles abroad. Even Honda has been shipping more models out of the country than it imported here. There is a concern this international strength could start slowing because the dollar is strengthening against other currencies, though it's too early to know what the actual effect of this could be, according to the WSJ. "Of course, we closely watch currency exchange, but we don't make changes in production or allocation based on temporary fluctuations in the exchange rate," Ford North American boss Joe Hinrichs told the newspaper. Mercedes was set to sell version of Nissan Titan, now Infiniti might instead

Wed, 18 Sep 2013

Mercedes-Benz Titan. Mercedes-Benz Frontier. Mercedes-Benz pickup truck. None of these things roll off the tongue particularly well. We'd like to think that's the reason Daimler opted to kill the idea of rebadged Titan and Frontier pickups from corporate ally Nissan. In reality, the execution before the Frankfurt Motor Show was due to more complicated issues.
Yes, Mercedes, byword for German luxury, style and quality, would have slapped a three-pointed star on a pair of Japanese pickup trucks that have failed to resonate with consumers in the world's largest truck market. That slapping of badges isn't much of an exaggeration, at least on the outside. According to the report from Road & Track, the truck's front clip would have been tweaked, but beyond that, the sheetmetal would have been unchanged. The interior would have received a more thorough going-over by the team at Mercedes, while the suspension and noise, vibration and harshness tuning would have also received significant attention.
The trucks would have ended up being sold through the light-commercial branch of Mercedes-Benz - the same folks that will happily sell you a Sprinter van - had the deal gone through. Issues arose, though, first with the engines. Mercedes wanted a wider range of powertrains to allow it to tune models for specific markets, while Nissan said it couldn't engineer the wide variety of engines that MB wanted to drop under the hood. For the smaller truck, meanwhile, MB was interested in a hybrid or plug-in variant, according to R&T, although this was also shot down by Nissan.
