Selling my 1970 Mercedes 250C Pillierless Coupe.  I bought it for the wife three years ago, but she wants a convertible.  After buying the car, I spent another $5500 getting this 43 year old car mechanically more than ready for the road.  I replaced or repaired almost everything on the car.  Where to start?  Well, the tires where new when I bought it, and they have all the thread on them given we have not driven the car very much.  I replaced the brakes, (calipers and rotors) all the hoses, belts, full tune-up, stocks, major and minor suspension parts, (see photos)  one complete axel, fuel pump, water pump, altinator, battery, all new filters including transmission service, sent the entire gauge cluster to Calf for an over-haul, (even the clock works now...$500 later)  fan clutch, heating fan, drive shaft yoke, motor mounts, transmission mount, cooling sender unit, interior parts, trunk seal, new trunk liner, wiper motor/ blades and much more.  The only thing that doesn't work is the original Becker radio.  I forgot to have him look at that, as I don't listen to the radio.  It could just be a fuse.  I am expecting new plush Loyd custom floor mates this week. (photos don't show them yet)

Does everything work?   Yes, only the radio does not work.  Does the car need anything to be 100%?  Yes.  There are a few spots of rust to fix, nothing dramatic.  The fact is:  the paint, chrome, rubber trim, moldings and over-all straightness of this car is stiller!  The interior wood and upholstery is first rate.  There is not a cut nor sign of wear on this black upholstery.  The headliner looks excellent as well.  (see photos)  The car could use a OEM carpet set.  ($459)  The carpet is dry rot.  The car starts and drives like new. The A/C blows ice cold.  These two and three years are the best models of the 70's coupe, not the rubber bumper mid-70's that were nothing but problems.  We are complimented when ever we take it out.   I have more photos upon request.  Happy bidding, I have a reasonable reserve...

Any questions, please don't hesitate to contact me.  Dan (cell) 203-912-1213

PS  I can arrange to have the car in Greenwich CT for pick up only, if that will make it easier to get from my home in Vermont.  BTW, I was told the car came from Arizona when I bought it.

Sunday Drive: Volvo hits a crossover home run, and people still love sports cars

Sun, Sep 24 2017

Looking back at the week that just was clearly tells us at least three things. First, crossovers don't have to be boring. Second, people still love sports cars, from the attainable (Audi TT RS) to the fanciful (Mercedes-AMG GT C). And finally, the traditional German trio of premium luxury brands had better not rest on their laurels, because credible challengers are coming in from every direction. The biggest reveal of the week, at least judging by the interest of Autoblog readers, was the Volvo XC40. Not only is the little 'ute a looker, it introduces some innovative new buying/leasing schemes designed to appeal to an audience accustomed to trading in and trading up every couple of years. Think of Volvo's flat-fee lease as you would a smartphone contract, and you'll be on the right track. Genesis looks to have a hit on its hands in the form of the G70 sport sedan. We took a Korean-spec model for a spin and found a lot to like about the upstart contender. We can't wait to sample one here in the United States to see how it stacks up against the Audi A4, BMW 3 Series, and Mercedes-Benz C-Class. In other news, we're still really excited to see a production Ford Ranger Raptor. But if you just can't wait for the official reveal — it's OK, neither can we — take a look at the renderings in our post down below. As always, tune in to Autoblog next week for a front-row seat to all the happenings worth following in the automotive industry. Mercedes-Benz engines with 48-volt systems coming in 2017

Tue, Jun 14 2016

As part of a big green push announced yesterday, Mercedes-Benz is jumping into the world of 48-volt power. The company will launch a new family of efficient gasoline engines next year and will begin rolling out 48-volt systems with it, likely in its more expensive cars first. Mercedes will use the 48-volt systems to power mild-hybrid functions like energy recuperation (commonly called brake regeneration), engine stop-start, electric boost, and even moving a car from a stop on electric power alone. These features will be enabled through either an integrated starter-generator (Mercedes abbreviates it ISG) or a belt-driven generator (RSG). (RSG is from the German word for belt-driven generator, Riemenstartergeneratoren. That's your language lesson for the day.) Mercedes didn't offer many other details on the new family of engines. There are 48-volt systems already in production; Audi's three-compressor SQ7 engine uses an electric supercharger run by a 48-volt system, and there's a new SQ5 diesel on the horizon that will use a similar setup with the medium-voltage system. Electric superchargers require a lot of juice, which can be fed by either a supercapacitor or batteries in a 48-volt system. Why 48-volt Matters: Current hybrid and battery-electric vehicles make use of very high voltages in their batteries, motors, and the wiring that connects them, usually around 200 to 600 volts. The high voltage gives them enough power to move a big vehicle, but it also creates safety issues. The way to mitigate those safety issues is with added equipment, and that increases both cost and weight. You can see where this is going. By switching to a 48-volt system, the high-voltage issues go away and the electrical architecture benefits from four times the voltage of a normal vehicle system and uses the same current, providing four times the power. The electrical architecture will cost more than a 12-volt system but less than the complex and more dangerous systems in current electrified vehicles. The added cost makes sense now because automakers are running out of ways to wisely spend money for efficiency gains. Cars can retain a cheaper 12-volt battery for lower-power accessories and run the high-draw systems on the 48-volt circuit. The industry is moving toward 48-volt power, with the SAE working on a standard for the systems and Delphi claiming a 10-percent increase in fuel economy for cars that make the switch.

Next Mercedes-Benz GLK to get AMG variant? Not likely...

Fri, 15 Mar 2013

If you think Mercedes-Benz will slap an AMG badge on anything with wheels, think again. Word has it the German manufacturer will not offer buyers a performance version of the GLK, with Tobias Moers, director of AMG vehicle development, saying that he doesn't see a market for the car. That's not to say the picture won't change in the near future, however. According to CarAdvice.com, AMG is keeping a close eye on the arrival of the Porsche Macan.
"Maybe there will be a change in the market when the Porsche [Macan] comes up," Moers said, "but right now, no."
The real hitch in the giddy-up seems to be cost. Moers says developing the machine into something worthy of an AMG would represent "a huge investment." We can't exactly argue with that. Fortunately, AMG buyers have plenty of Mercedes-Benz models to choose from.
