1999 Mercedes-benz Slk 230 Kompressor *** Super Clean & Low Miles! *** on 2040-cars
Grass Valley, California, United States
Southern California Car I purchased this car from the original owner in San Diego with less than 11,000 miles in September 2013. The previous owner spent long periods traveling abroad, so the car was a driven maximum of only a couple thousand miles a year at best. After driving the up to Northern California and heading to the San Francisco Bay Area on the weekends, odometer reads just over 15,600 mile. The car never was really serviced beyond the normal oil service changes, so I had the car inspected and serviced to comply with any service bulletins and fix any issues. · Transmission adapter plug replaced · Accessory belts replaced · Cam magnet on the front of the motor replaced · Air filter, Cabin Filter and Fuel Filter replaced · Transmission Filter and Fluid replaced · Brake and Coolant flush · C-Pillar do not rub against the roof when down. Interior Condition These cars had a rubberized colored coating applied to the dash and center consul. And, this coating was color matched to the seat inserts. Over time, this coating peals to reveal the black surfaces underneath. So, when the red, white and blue interiors began to peal, the black surfaces would show though and really distract the look of those wonderful colors. The Charcoal Interior (like this one) at least does not draw you eye so quickly to the pealing. Most folks either live with it, remove the coating entirely or have it reapplied. Exterior Condition The paint on this car is like new! However, there are a few minor issues for a car that’s 15 years old. There are several millimeter size rock chips to the paint on the front, and a paint scratch on the divers side front fender well. I photographed the fender, but not the front as the chips where too small to photograph. Engine Compartment The engine compartment is clean and everything is easily accessible. These early models are easy to work on yourself, as the engine compartment predates all the plastic panels covering the engine found on the later releases and does not have all the complicated electronics and software found on those later models as well. Trunk The truck is absolutely flawless and looks the same as the day it left the factory. Inside the truck is the six cassette CD player, First-Aid Kit, Spare Tire and tools. AutoCheck Report I have AutoCheck’s Vehicle History Report from when I purchased the car and it rates the car at 90. Accident Check: NONE Full History Below are the historical events for this vehicle listed in chronological order. Any discrepancies will be in bold text. Formula One speeds towards radical thousand-horsepower shakeup
Wed, Feb 11 2015The teams, the drivers, the fans, the circuits... few, if any, were satisfied with how Formula One has shaped up since the current regulations took hold last year. But that doesn't mean they aren't working on it. At a recent meeting of the F1 Strategy Group, the leading parties in the sport outlined a new framework that would radically shake up the cars themselves while keeping costs in check. And the biggest change could see the engines producing around 1,000 horsepower. Although a proposal put forth by Ferrari to ditch the current V6 hybrid engines in favor of new twin-turbocharged units was rejected by Honda and Mercedes, the members of the group approved in principal to increase the fuel flow in the existing engines to dramatically boost output. As it stands, the current 1.6-liter turbocharged V6 engines develop around 600 horsepower, with an additional 160 or so kicked in by the electric Energy Recovery System, for a combined output of about 760 hp. What's not clear at the moment is whether the increased fuel flow would necessitate either the return of mid-race refueling (currently banned) or the installation of larger fuel tanks. Red Bull and McLaren also submitted proposals to radically redesign the shape of the cars as well, however a more evolutionary approach was adopted instead. Though far from finalized, the new design would keep the same basic form of the current chassis, but with adjustments to make them more aesthetically pleasing while producing more downforce. Wider tires are also said to be part of the mix. With more power and more grip from the tires and aero, the resulting cars would most certainly end up going much faster than the current ones, which are already starting to nudge the lap records at some of the circuits, many of which were set during the V10 era. The F1 Strategy Group is made up of representatives of the FIA, Formula One Management and six leading teams. The next step will be for the teams' technical directors to iron out how to implement what their bosses have agreed to. If they settle the details fast enough, the revised regulations could be pushed through in time for next season. Mercedes widens luxury sales gap on strong early CLA demand
Wed, 02 Oct 2013Mercedes-Benz CLA sales have been booming, with the Stuttgart-based manufacturer moving 2,300 of the sleek four-doors in its first week on sale. That is astonishing. Mercedes moved nearly twice as many CLAs (which start at $29,900) in one week than Jaguar, a brand that is on a very solid roll, sold in all of September. Ignoring the price differences between the Jag line and the CLA, that is still wildly impressive.
Mercedes has been pushing the CLA in television ads, using a shortened version of its Super Bowl spot, which starred William Dafoe, Usher and Kate Upton. "As the bargain entrance into the Mercedes portfolio, we weren't sure how luxury buyers would react," Kelly Blue Book auto analyst Alec Gutierrez told Bloomberg.
The CLA push was just part of MB's 6.7-percent increase in September sales, which were also helped along by a 17-percent jump in E-Class sales. That surge has allowed Mercedes to widen its 2013 sales lead over its rival, BMW, to 2,491 cars, according to Bloomberg. If CLA sales continue at this rate, we can only expect that margin to grow.
The UK votes for Brexit and it will impact automakers
Fri, Jun 24 2016It's the first morning after the United Kingdom voted for what's become known as Brexit – that is, to leave the European Union and its tariff-free internal market. Now begins a two-year process in which the UK will have to negotiate with the rest of the EU trading bloc, which is its largest export market, about many things. One of them may be tariffs, and that could severely impact any automaker that builds cars in the UK. This doesn't just mean companies that you think of as British, like Mini and Jaguar. Both of those automakers are owned by foreign companies, incidentally. Mini and Rolls-Royce are owned by BMW, Jaguar and Land Rover by Tata Motors of India, and Bentley by the VW Group. Many other automakers produce cars in the UK for sale within that country and also export to the EU. Tariffs could damage the profits of each of these companies, and perhaps cause them to shift manufacturing out of the UK, significantly damaging the country's resurgent manufacturing industry. Autonews Europe dug up some interesting numbers on that last point. Nissan, the country's second-largest auto producer, builds 475k or so cars in the UK but the vast majority are sent abroad. Toyota built 190k cars last year in Britain, of which 75 percent went to the EU and just 10 percent were sold in the country. Investors are skittish at the news. The value of the pound sterling has plummeted by 8 percent as of this writing, at one point yesterday reaching levels not seen since 1985. Shares at Tata Motors, which counts Jaguar and Land Rover as bright jewels in its portfolio, were off by nearly 12 percent according to Autonews Europe. So what happens next? No one's terribly sure, although the feeling seems to be that the jilted EU will impost tariffs of up to 10 percent on UK exports. It's likely that the UK will reciprocate, and thus it'll be more expensive to buy a European-made car in the UK. Both situations will likely negatively affect the country, as both production of new cars and sales to UK consumers will both fall. Evercore Automotive Research figures the combined damage will be roughly $9b in lost profits to automakers, and an as-of-yet unquantified impact on auto production jobs. Perhaps the EU's leaders in Brussels will be in a better mood in two years, and the process won't devolve into a trade war. In the immediate wake of the Brexit vote, though, the mood is grim, the EU leadership is angry, and investors are spooked.
