The Toy Barn of Dublin Presents:
1983 Mercedes 380SL
The Toy Barn is thrilled to offer this absolutely beautiful 1983 Mercedes 380SL, in stunning original condition, and ready for it's new owner! This roadster is simply gorgeous, and was a recent trade-in here at our store out of a private collection, towards a new 911. This is a fantastic example indeed, and a great opportunity for someone looking for a fully documented and meticulously kept, low-mileage Mercedes. We have a full 3-ring binder with loaded with receipts, ownership history, maintenance records, and items of interest including an original 1983 Mercedes brochure. I have not had a more comprehensive ensemble of history and information on a vintage Mercedes like this. From 40k miles to 45k miles, there was over $7,600 in parts and labor spent; TOO MANY DETAILS TO LIST!!! The previous owner was very meticulous, and upgraded or replaced anything he saw fit. Not only that, but he also collected spare parts and put together a "spares kit" of replacement parts to pass along to the next owner.
Condition wise, this SL is absolutely beautiful. The Anthracite Grey finish is beautiful, with only light wear evident, no damage or major blemishes that take away from it's stunning appearance. The original Mercedes wheels were replaced with NEW chrome OEM wheels, which are in excellent condition; no curb rash or damage. The tires are like new, still have ample tread remaining as well, and overall the exterior of this Mercedes is fantastic. Inside, the Grey leather interior looks excellent, as pictured below. There are no major blemishes or signs of wear, and overall this is one of the finest interiors I've seen on a droptop Mercedes of this age. The top is in excellent condition as well and was recently replaced. Out on the road, the car runs, drives, and feels awesome. We just serviced it here at our Performance Center, and I'd be glad to provide any information to help answer questions for you.
This is a get-in-and-go Mercedes, ready for the shows, the street, or the collection.
Though in stunning condition, this is of course a 30+ year old car, as I'm sure you understand. There are a few various imperfections upon close scrutiny, but overall it is absolutely gorgeous. It is being sold as-is. CALL ME FOR MORE DETAILS!!!
This 380SL will be sold and include the following:
Check out the pictures below, be sure and allow time for them to load!
If you have any questions about the condition of this car, and would like for me to go over it panel by panel with you, please give me a ring. I'd be glad to do an "over the phone" walkaround for you.

Daimler AG is hoping that the legwork it's done preparing its EQ electric-vehicle sub-brand will allow it to slightly reduce annual spending on plug-in vehicle technology. The Mercedes-Benz parent is looking to cut electric-vehicle research-and-development spending to $13.2 billion in 2017 from about $15.4 billion this year, Bloomberg News says, citing comments Daimler CEO Dieter Zetsche made to journalists in Hamburg, Germany, this week. Daimler's annual R&D spending is up from about $11.5 billion in both 2013 and 2014. Like its competitors – for example Audi and BMW and its i sub-brand – Daimler is aiming to have as much as 25 percent of its annual vehicle sales be battery-electric within the next 10 years as part of an effort to meet stricter greenhouse-gas emissions mandates in both Europe and North America. In fact, Mercedes-Benz and Daimler's Smart division collectively have at least 10 electric-vehicle models on their slates during the next few years, though Zetsche said the German automaker will continue to find ways to make its gas- and diesel-powered vehicles more fuel-efficient as well. Daimler introduced a concept version of the Generation EQ electric SUV at the Paris Motor Show late last month. It comes powered by two electric motors and is made up of a combination of steel, aluminum, and carbon fiber, and boasts a 311-mile single-charge range (on the relatively lenient European testing standards). The SUV also has 402 horsepower, and the ability to go from 0 to 60 miles per hour in less than five seconds. Zetsche said at the time that Daimler was prepping powertrains and platforms for electric sedans, wagons, coupes, and roadsters, in addition to SUVs. Additionally, Daimler's Deutsche Accumotive unit is producing the lithium-ion battery packs for the EQs. The numbers, they are in: BMW has reclaimed the luxury-sales crown from Mercedes by a margin of 9,347 cars. Mercedes donned the king's headgear in 2013 after a strong final quarter of 2013 when the new CLA and S-Class poured out of dealerships. This year, led by the 3 Series/4 Series and X5, BMW sold 339,738 units – a 9.8-percent increase year-on-year. Mercedes, led by the C-Class and M-Class, saw its sales go up by 5.7 percent to 330,391 units. We'll have to wait a bit to see if there's another registrations-vs-sales challenge as in 2012, when BMW was anointed US luxury ruler. Behind them, a dark horse named Lexus nudged closer to the leading Teutons, selling 311,389 cars. The Japanese luxury automaker also had the biggest gain among the top three, its sales rising by 13.7 percent compared to 2013. Audi had the biggest sales of anyone among the top five, though, with a 15.2-percent gain to 182,011, which moved it a spot ahead of Cadillac; the Wreath-and-Crest brand dropped 6.5 percent to 170,750. Acura (167,843), Infiniti (117,300), and Lincoln (94,474) took the final positions. Speaking of Lincoln, sales at the once-mighty luxury marque stand as the mightiest jump of any on this list, up 15.6 percent. That's the power of Matthew McConaughey... and better cars and a new crossover, sure. So now that we're back to Round One of 2015, in case no one else has said it yet: "Ok, fight!"

It's good to be the king, at least until your people have had enough of you. Last week, we brought you famous presidential cars. This week, we're going to the opposite end of the political spectrum, looking at what history's mad men drove throughout their repressive and violent regimes. These dictators were absolutely powerful, and absolutely corrupt. More nightmares for their people than rulers, their iron-fisted control gave them the ability to satisfy any wild desire with nearly limitless funds. While they all splurged on luxury goods, cars were a particular passion of many dictators. Cars make a powerful statement to the public about wealth, status and control. It's how you are presented at ground level to your adoring masses or mortal enemies. A custom luxury car with plenty of armor plating reinforced the specialness and "otherness" of the ruler to friend and foe alike. Muammar Gaddafi, Libya, 1969 - 2011 Lybia's President for Life Muammar Gaddafi fancied himself not just a car enthusiast, but a car designer for the masses as well. He supposedly designed a car called the "Saroukh el-Jamahiriya" or Libyan Rocket. It had a 230-horsepower V6 and the nose and tail of a rocket. He was trying to produce a safer car. What makes it safe car? Tough to say. Not a lot was ever released it. Apparently the el-Jamahiriya did come with airbags and collapsible fenders in case of a collision. A spokesperson said "The invention of the safest car in the world is proof that the Libyan revolution is built on the happiness of man." We'll just have to take his word for it. When he wasn't designing his own cars, Gaddafi was ordering up custom rides, large and small. Besides a heavily armored BMW 7 Series and a Mercedes S-Class stretch limo, Gaddafi had this custom Fiat built at a cost of $260,000. The gold in the trim is real gold (of course) and comes with some touches that are pure Gaddafi. For instance, the Fiat badge was replaced with an outline of the continent of Africa, with Libya cut out in green. Rebels seized the Fiat and Gaddafi's other trappings of power after putting an end to Gaddafi's 42 years in control. Jean-Claude "Baby Doc" Duvalier, Haiti, 1971 - 1986 Jean-Claude "Baby Doc" Duvalier was the second-generation dictator of Hati from 1971 to 1986. He made life hell for his people for 15 long years, starting when his father died when he was just 19 years old. Imagine if Justin Beiber was given a tiny island nation to run.
