2005 Mercedes-benz Sl500 Base Convertible 2-door 5.0l on 2040-cars
Ventura, California, United States
I purchased this beautiful vehicle in 2008 while living in Los Angeles. Working in downtown LA, there was no real need to drive the vehicle, so it was kept in a covered garage. I moved to Michigan in early 2010 and left the car here in Southern California.
I am selling the vehicle as is. It is close to mint condition, with several added features. I've only put about 13,000 miles on the car in 6 years of owning it, so there is plenty of life left for whatever you choose to use it for. The car runs well. Please help give this amazing car a permanent home. I had the car PermaPlated in 2008 (5 year warranty expired). No representations or warranties. No returns. Buyer is responsible for all due diligence. Buyer responsible for pick up or shipping. Title, registration, and any applicable sales taxes are the responsibility of the buyer. Bidders with feedback of less than 5 must contact prior to bidding. Right reserved to end auction early. Mercedes-Benz may create electric-only brand
Fri, Jun 24 2016Daimler's Mercedes-Benz division may follow in fellow German automaker BMW's footsteps by launching its own separate brand for electric vehicles, Hybrid Cars says, citing German publication Handelsblatt, which quoted people familiar with the process. Daimler's board may make the decision to go ahead with the plan as early next month. And the brand may officially be unveiled at the Paris Motor Show in September. Unlike BMW and the i brand, Mercedes would use its existing factories to produce the newly-branded vehicles instead of operating out of a separate one as the i brand does. The first vehicle under the brand is likely to be an SUV model based on the Mercedes-Benz GLC crossover vehicle and would start sales next year. The product line would be broadened further in 2020. Daimler declined to comment, according to Handelsblatt. Mercedes-Benz and BMW wouldn't be the only two German automakers with plans for more electric vehicle sales. Volkswagen has a plan to unleash as many as 20 electric vehicles and plug-in hybrids to the public by 2020, including the Phaeton and the Audi A8. On that note, reports surfaced last month that VW may build its own "Gigafacory" as it prepares to widen its plug-in vehicle push and bring down their costs. As for US sales, Smart sold 313 ForTwo Electric vehicles, down 43 percent from a year earlier. Meanwhile, BMW's i sales in the US fell 40 percent from a year earlier to 2,723. Currently, Mercedes-Benz's only two electric vehicles are the Mercedes B-Class Electric Drive and the Smart ForTwo Electric two-seat vehicle. In the meantime, take a look at Autoblog's First Drive of the B-Class Electric. Related Video: News Source: Handelsblatt, Hybrid Cars Green Mercedes-Benz smart Electric

Maybach lost upwards of $500k on each vehicle sold
Wed, 08 Feb 2012Daimler is shuttering Maybach in 2013 after seven years of production. In that time, the company's ultra-ultra-luxury arm managed to sell just 3,000 units, and CAR reports Daimler lost somewhere around $500,000 on each and every one of them.
Even with a ludicrous price tag of over $370,000 for an "entry" Maybach 57, the brand couldn't quite recoup the dizzying $1.33 billion Daimler poured into it since its (re)inception. Rumors ignited over a possible tie up with Aston Martin that would have resulted in a range of new and attractive models, but Daimler has instead decided to snuff out Maybach altogether.
We can hardly blame them.
