Selling a 2003 Mercedes SL500 230R Roadster. Seller is only the second owner and the car has 80,000. On average, car has seen 8,000 miles a year. The car is fully loaded minus Pano Roof, Distonic Cruise, and Voice Command. The vehicle has been meticulously maintained and is near perfect condition. Always garaged, always professionally detailed and professionally maintained. The suspension has three ride heights that can be selected from inside the car, the bottom setting has been reprogrammed to sit 2.5 inches lower but the mid and high ride height remain at factory settings. The only other modifications to the car are tasteful 20 inch rims with about 10,000 miles on them, smoked lights, tinted windows, and painted grills, vents and badges. The exhaust has had the rear resonators deleted, which is 100% smog legal. The exhaust is still very quiet at low rpms with a tasteful rumble at mid and upper rpm range.

The car is standard equipped with AMG, Sport, and Launch Packages. The vehicle has a stock BOSE sound system with integrated navigation and a six disc CD changer. The sound system also has speed sensitive volume adjust, 8 speakers and a subwoofer with an aux audio input. The interior is leather with wooden trim, heated/cooled/pulsating seats with 3 position memory and the driver said moves back and raises the steering wheel automatically for easy exit. For safety the car has front and side airbags, as well as a knee airbag for the driver and electronic parking sensors on both the front and back of the car. The car is also equipped with braktronic brake assist which preloads the brakes when you let off the gas quickly at high speeds. The brakes also "pulsate" in the rain to keep the braking surface dry for optimal braking. The brakes are also equipped with a electronic force distribution system that prevents brake steer under heavy breaking. At 60 mph you can put your hands on the roof and stand on the brakes, the car will not veer left or right, it will not dive, it will come to a slow and smooth stop. The suspension is electronically activated, hydraulic pneumatic actuators that assist in anti body roll (ABC). When equipped, the car will automatically adjust in turns to stiffen one side and soften the other so the car stays level in turns and the car will also automatically lower itself at speed to reduce drag. The transmission is a "learning" transition which will adjust its shift points to your driving style and it also has a "wet" and "sport" mode that has preset shift points. The car also has speed proportional power steering which stiffens as needed for optimal steering. Basically with 302 hp @ 5600 RPM and 339 ftlbs @ 2700 the car is comfortably fast and accommodates the drive in every facet. The hard top convertible is the cars finest selling point, even in the down position offering a considerable amount of trunk space.

Tastefully fast, aggressive and classy the SL series is truly a gentle mans sports car. I was fortunate enough to buy this from a gentleman who took terrific care of it, and I have followed in suit. Car has been professionally maintained and I have all receipts. All manufacturer recalls have been performed, and the car has only been worked on by Mercedes mechanics with Mercedes parts and fluids, to Mercedes specifications.

I will ship the car at buyers expense, and require a deposit within 72 hours of the close of the auction. Require pickup within ten days of the close of the auction. Will meet or deliver locally to San Diego/Los Angeles area.

2015 Mercedes-Benz SLK250 Quick Spin [w/video]

Fri, Aug 28 2015

We car writers tend to have a occupationally limited focus. Autoblog's stock in trade is automotive news and new car reviews, which often steers us towards forgetting existing models about 17 minutes after we've driven it a second time. You guys like reading about the new hotness, too, so it tends to work out. But the wonderful fact is that every car sold today will have a rich/interesting/heroic/tragic life for years to come. And, occasionally, even obsolete makes and models stay interesting. That was my thinking when this 2015 Mercedes-Benz SLK250 came into our fleet. Set to be replaced with the SLK300, with that car's 2.0-liter turbo'd engine, the 250 is already running out the clock in Mercedes dealerships. What's more, my test car came complete with – are you ready for this? – a six-speed manual transmission. I can't tell you the last exact model of Benz that I'd driven with a stick shift, but I can assure you that its engine was carbureted. Considering the odd spec and replacement timeline, my question, as I drove the SLK for a week: was this a unicorn destined to be a driver's dearest find? Driving Notes: Let me not bury the lede any more: the six-speed isn't a game changer for the SLK. Yeah, over the course of a few days I came to be comfortable with the slightly vague clutch and notchy shifter, but I didn't love it. I went blasting on a few back roads, and found the hand-shaker more involving to use than the standard auto, but it was long to throw and not overly precise when I moved up and down between second, third, and fourth. On the other hand, the old 1.8T under the SLK250's bonnet still felt well matched with the base SLK's boulevardier mission. Output of 201 horsepower and 229 pound-feet of torque doesn't give enough gumption to move the hardtop German lump with authority, but it was still enough to be quick off the line and offer easy highway passing. The turbo four didn't sound bad under full throttle, either, but it did rattle like old plumbing when idling in the driveway. Speaking of rattling: the adjustable and Airscarf-equipped seats did a lot of it. (Airscarf, you'll recall, is M-B's brand name for an in-seat fan that blows hot air on your neck; it's nice on a cold day.) Though comfortable and mildly bolstered, the driver's chair made all kinds of funny noises when I got in, got out, or cornered over 20 miles per hour. That's rough for a luxury car with 6,000 (or so) miles on it.

McLaren Racing will return to Mercedes F1 engines from 2021

Sat, Sep 28 2019

SOCHI, Russia — McLaren will be reunited with Mercedes engines from the 2021 season as the former champions go back to using the German manufacturer's power units in their bid to return to the top. The Woking-based team are currently supplied by Renault, having joined forces with the French company last year. They will see out that deal, which runs until the end of 2020, before making the switch back to Mercedes as part of a long-term agreement until at least 2024. "We are delighted to welcome McLaren back to the Mercedes-Benz racing family with this new power unit supply agreement," said Mercedes' motorsports head Toto Wolff in a joint statement with McLaren issued at the Russian Grand Prix on Saturday. "We hope that this new long-term agreement marks another milestone for McLaren as they aim to take the fight to the sport's top teams, including our Mercedes works team." The McLaren-Mercedes partnership initially ran from 1995 to the end of 2014. It turned McLaren, enduring a slump after their heady days of dominance during the late 1980s and early 90s with Honda, into a force to be reckoned with once again. The combination won 78 races, a constructors' title and three drivers' titles with Mika Hakkinen (1998, 1999) and Lewis Hamilton who raced to his first Formula One title with the team in 2008. McLaren find themselves in a similar phase now, rebuilding after three dismal years with Honda, the Japanese manufacturer they rejoined forces with at the end of 2014 in a bid to recreate their dominance from 30 years ago. Fielding a fresh driver line up of British rookie Lando Norris and Spaniard Carlos Sainz, they have made big strides this year and are currently locked in a battle for fourth in the overall standings with Renault's works team. But they haven't won a race since the season-ending 2012 Brazilian Grand Prix, when they were still powered by Mercedes. "Renault has been instrumental to our Formula One recovery plan and a fantastic partner to McLaren Racing," said Zak Brown, chief executive of McLaren Racing. "This agreement is an important step in our long-term plan to return to success in Formula One." McLaren's new deal with the German manufacturer, whose power units have set the benchmark in Formula One's turbo-hybrid era, coincides with a planned rules overhaul aimed at leveling the playing field and creating better racing. The shake-up could be just what a team like McLaren need to make that final jump up to the top.

Mercedes G63 vs. BMW i8: Our silly drag race between the past and future

Tue, Nov 17 2015

You see, we were just trying to conserve resources. We had Milan Dragway rented for a test of the AMS Alpha 10 Audi R8, and there was some extra track time, so we brought these two along. That's called saving money. Or something. Aside from being German, the G63 and i8 couldn't really be much more different – one is a prehistoric military vehicle with a nutty twin-turbo V8, the other a vision of the near future of efficient sports cars. So what did we do? We lined them up against each other, editor-in-chief Michael Austin in the i8 and me in the G-Wagen. Though we had a good idea of the likely winner – note which car the boss is driving – the results were still surprising. Watch for yourself above.
